Singapore Airlines Keeps First Class Amenities Amid Budget Woes

When airlines need to cut costs they have some decisions to make, should they charge more for bags, cut down on amenities, raise ticket prices? Singapore Airlines has said that they will keep the airline's large wine budget even amidst other cuts that include the CEO taking a 20 percent cut in salary after the company's second-successive quarterly loss.

Steven Spurrier, Decanter's consultant editor and one of Singapore Airlines' three wine consultants told decanter.com that passengers who are travel first class still expect the best and that includes fine wines. On the airline passengers are served Dom Pérignon and Krug Champagnes, as well as Grand Cru Burgundy and second-growth Bordeaux.

Singapore Air offers luxury service in their first class cabin that includes Givenchy pajamas, amenities kits from Ferragamo, leather seats and gourmet food that includes entrees like lobster Thermidor with buttered asparagus. It's no surprise that Singapore Air won the best first-class cabin award this year in a survey by London-based research company Skytrax.

The Best First Class Meals for When You Fly

There are many people in the world who fly frequently and as such are often subject to airline food, despite it's nasty reputation of being nothing but reheated cardboard. Some airlines, however, are seeking to change that in a major way for their first class passengers -- even to the extent for some of having a chef on board (Gulf Airlines) and serving exotic gourmet dishes.

Among others Singapore Airlines offers a choice of Dom Perignon or Krug champagne, several airlines serve caviar as appetizer, and Malaysia Airlines serves their meals on fine china. Would you (or do you) choose your airline based on the first class meal options?

Airbus A380 Luxury Plane Tickets Sell for $100,000

You've been reading about it, you've been hearing about it, and now it's finally happened: those two tickets up for auction for a luxury suite (plus all kinds of other goodies) on the maiden voyage of the Singapore Airlines Airbus A380 have finally sold -- for $100,000. That sounds like a lot of money to pay for a flight from Singapore to Sydney, but of course it's on an Airbus, it includes a lot of other perks, and that's actually a lot less than what the airline was hoping to get for charity (the "Buy it now" was $380,000). What a bargain!

Singapore Airlines To Auction Off Seats On The A380

As I've mentioned in the past, Singapore Airlines is the first commercial airline to get their hands on an Airbus A380. They have now announced that they will be auctioning off seats on the first commercial flight of the A380 between Singapore and Sydney. Tickets for the first flight of this doubledecker jet will be offered on eBay, with the proceeds going to Singapore's Community Chest, Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwich, The Children's Hospital at Westmead and Doctors Without Borders. Exxon Mobil Aviation will donate the fuel for the flight.
