Unique 150th Anniversary Heuer Watch Up For Auction

Filed under: Timepieces / Watches, Auctions

Bohnams auction house will offer this one-of-a-kind Tag Heuer Silverstone watch on the 15th of December 2010. Looks like they are starting to publicize it very early. The Silverstone watch is a retro re-release and this version is 150th anniversary (of Tag Heuer) that has Jack Heuer signature on the dial. Like classics from the brand, it has just "Heuer" as the logo. The brown dial with its uniquely shaped square cushion shaped case is matched to a perforated alligator strap, also in brown. Inside is a Swiss automatic chronograph movement. Tag Heuer collectors love Silverstone models, and the re-release of the watch has been a hit with fans of the brand. Feels like 1972 all over again right? While the watch is cool, it has mostly nostalgic value, and the fact that it is a totally unique watch (1/1 is engraved on the back). Bonhams estimates it will fetch between 6,000 - 8,000 British Pounds. Most of the money from the auction will go to the Green Cross International Charity - which is also supported by Tag Heuer brand ambassador Leonardo Di Caprio. TAG Heuer Brings Back the Silverstone Chronograph

Back in 1974, Heuer launched the Silverstone, featuring the first automatic chronograph movement on the market. It became an instant favorite around the Formula One grid, whose drivers wore Heuer chronographs with pride. Thirty-five years later, TAG Heuer has announced it is re-issuing the classic in limited quantities.

The re-released Silverstone will be available in brown or blue with a perforated alligator leather strap. It features TAG Heuer's Calibre 11 movement with Dubois-Depraz module, date window at 6 o'clock and anti-glare sapphire crystal front and back. Only 1500 examples will be offered, with an asking price at $6,500 apiece.

Parade of Ferraris Sets New World Record

Here's a fun traffic jam to be a part of: a group of 385 Ferraris parading down the Silverstone circuit in England. It happened just a week or so ago on June 9th as part of a celebration to mark the company's anniversary year. Just a few of the models present were a 250 California Spider, a 275GTB/C, FXX, F40, F50 and an Enzo. The total value of all the Ferraris involved is estimated to be more than $118.4 million.

For the event the cars traveled slowly over a 2 mile course, made sure to stay within 2 car lengths of each other, and were counted both at the beginning and at the end. A representative from Guinness World Records certified the event as a new world record and presented Ferrari officials with a certificate.

What? No certificates for the individual owners/drivers? Bummer.

Two new Vertu phones for racing fans. Vertu has announced their Racetrack Legends series. The first two phones in a series of six which pay homage to legendary tracks are Monza and Silverstone. The phones are available in limited, numbered editions of 1,000 each and feature racing tread rubber details and a map of the track laser-etched on the phone. The Monza is in red and the Silverstone is in green. They have also come out with a new color for their special editions, a summery azure blue (shown after the jump).
