Providence Outdoor Shower

Filed under: Decor, Yachts & Sailing

There is a growing popularity for salt-water pools, as I noticed while watching an episode of The Real Housewives of Orange County. Some people are interested in them for the beauty or the feel, perhaps even the slight smell of the sea, though the women on that show were interested in protecting their dyed hair color. Regardless of why you have one, you can't sit around covered in salt all day, so an outdoor shower is the perfect way to clean up and refresh yourself after a swim. The Providence Outdoor Shower is elegant, hand-built from sustainably harvested teak that will last for up to 25 years. It is a bit more upscale, in terms of appearance, than the Serpentine Outdoor Shower and makes a great patio accessory, especially if you already have some teak outdoor furniture. Price: $440.

Idrolux Tanning Showers

Idrolux makes a variety of innovative tanning lights that are designed to work while you shower. According to the company, the presence of water can increase the tanning effects of UVA rays by up to 30%. While there are panels that can be attached to existing showers, Idrolux Symphony, their premium model is the original Idrolux, which is a shower with the patented light panels built into it. The panels come four different colors and custom colors are available, so you can bathe yourself (while you bathe) in the light of your choice. In addition to the tanning features, the showers have a multi-function shower head and an optional massage jet. They all come with a remote control to control the lighting.

All the risks that are normally associated with sun exposure are not mitigated by use of an Idrolux, so the company recommends that exposure be limited to 10 minutes per day.

Vola Shower Concept

We've seen plenty of rain showerheads but the Vola shower concept offers a similar experience but with a wider reach. The shower head can deliver up to 25 liters  per minute. It comes in polished or brushed chrome. It won the Good Design award in 2005. If you need a lot of water pounding down on you in a gentle cascade, this or the giant Hansgrohe are your best bests.

Serpentine Outdoor Shower

There's nothing like an outdoor shower in the summertime. Whether you need a rinse from the beach or just need to cool off  from the beach, an outdoor shower is one of summer's pleasures. The Serpentine garden shower designed by Tom De Vrieze for Extremis is an outdoor shower without involving major plumbing. Place it wherever you want and hook it up to your garden hose and it's ready to go. No guarantees on the hot water though. Their product blurb says that because the hose is exposed to the sun, the water inside the hose will heat up. it is available in May and should sell for around $430.

Kohler's Water Tiles

Get the ultimate showering experience with Kohler's Water Tiles, which will allow you to direct water in any direction, from any space in the shower. Each tile has a shower head built into it, so you can have as many or as few shower heads as you want without losing any shower space to obtrusive plumbing fixtures. There are three different types of tiles, but all will allow you to wrap yourself in water. Two tiles are flush with the wall, featuring 22 and 54 individual nozzles. The third tile, also with 54-nozzles, is angled and allows you to direct the flow of water at a 45-degree angle to compliment the other tiles. The tiles start at $123.80 per tile and professional installation is recommended to ensure peak performance.

Is Your Shower Making You Look Older?

Should you be afraid of your shower? For years I've heard of celebrities washing their face and hair with Evian. Now several beauty products have been developed to counteract the effects of tap water. Jonathan Antin recently came out with a $95  shower purifier that is supposed to result in healthier hair and there are also products to protect the skin. Dorit Baxter’s Day Spa in New York has created the Facial Shower Shield which is  a cream that is meant to be put on when you step into the shower. A two ounce jar sells for $12.99. Is this overkill or is tap water really making us look older?
