The Lin Art Project Tote ($835) is not for the faint of heart. It's completely unique and unexpected, and goes against the trend of simple silhouettes with minimal adornments. But if you know anything about Lin Besser, designer behind Lin, her tote fits perfectly with her colorful, off-the-wall and quirky aesthetic. Check out her Spring/Summer 2010 collection here.

Made of leather, Lin's tote features a sequined and embroidered character with bright pink and purple bug eyes and three multi-colored teeth. It sort of reminds me of the children's toy – Ugly Dolls. The ones that look so strange that they actually become cute. If someone took the time to decorate an Ugly Doll I have a feeling it would like a lot like Lin's little quirky and scary character.

The interior is spacious and perfect for items that are thin (wallet, magazine, phone, ebook reader, etc). The Lin Art Project Tote is fully lined with a hidden magnetic snap as a closure, and gold accents on the handle. Measurements: 41 cm H x 35 cm W.

Bottega Veneta Shopping Bag, Handbag of the Day

For the Spring/Summer 2007 collection, Bottega Veneta has taken the signature woven leather look and jazzed it up with what looks like art deco stems. The bag might appear to be brown, but it's actually lavender. It has gold hardware and an open top and the inside is lined in suede. The leather handles look rather short, but the bag is big at 18 by 16 inches. For a lavender bag with flowers, this one manages to look not the least bit fussy. Dust bag included, it sells for $2,200.

Jean Paul Gaultier Perforated Shopper, Handbag of the Day

A bag that is full of holes, whether they are crocheted or punched in leather, as they are in the Jean Paul Gaultier Perforated Shopper, is just not going to pass muster in winter. Once spring rolls around, however, the shoe is on the other foot and suddenly holey bags look casual, funky and lightweight - perfect for warm weather. This shopper has spade, diamond, heart, and club cutouts all over it and is topped with rolled leather handles. The zip top has a contrasting red leather pull, which matches perfectly with the removable Jean Paul Gaultier "playing card" address tag. It measures 15.25" x 11" x 4". Price: $815.

Givenchy Leather Shopping Tote, Handbag of the Day

Departing from the far more common style of having separate handles that are attached with rings, buckles to stitching, Givenchy's Leather Shopping Tote has shoulder straps that are merely an extension of the calf leather from the rest of the bag. This makes it clear that you are getting the best quality leather throughout the bag, as some manufacturers take advantage of the opportunity offered by detached handles to make use of smaller scrap leather or pieces that were too flawed to find their way onto the main bag. The large tote is accented with side buckles and a logo luggage tag. Price: $1,395.

Michael Kors Signature Venus Shopper, Handbag of the Day

We can't say that we really liked the last Michael Kors handbag that we saw here. Although it combined all the appropriately "in" elements for the fall season, it just didn't work that well as a whole. The Michael Kors Signature Venus Shopper, on the other hand, is much simpler and works out to be much more pleasing to the eye. The bag comes in three basic colors - chocolate, tan and black - and is accented with contrasting topstitching and antiqued brass hardware. One addition detail is that the bag's drawstring pulls end with cute little "M" and "K" charms. It measures 10"H x 12 1/2"W x 6"D. Price: $428.

Marc Jacobs Slouchy Patent Surely Shopper, Handbag of the Day

This Marc by Marc Jacobs handbag is huge and were it not for the overly-large bag trend that started on the runways earlier this year, it might be too large to actually qualify as a handbag. The Slouchy Patent Surely Shopper measures 17" x 5" x 20", which doesn't sound that big until you realized that you could easily fit five laptops into the bag. We don't recommend that, of course, because the patent leather shopped is lined with fabric, and is not nearly padded enough to protect computers, though the comparison can give a good idea of the size. The bag is accented with 3/4" banding at the top and silver hardware, including reinforced double shoulder straps and a decorative buckle on the front. Price: $478.
