Barker Black Intros its More Affordable Spring/Summer 2011 Collection

If you like Barker Black shoes but your accountant doesn't like the cost of donning them, then the brand's Spring/Summer 2011 collection might be the appropriate middle ground. There are eight slippes in washed linen and woven silk wool, four suede moccasins and three high-top sneakers.

The slippers can be had in black, natural, navy, charcoal or purple and all will be embroidered with "Death" on one foot and "Glory" on the other, in a contrasting color. The sued mocs range from cobalt to green to snuff brown, adorned with a silver crossbone. And the silk-striped high-top sneakers will come in deerskin or calf depending on your choice of orange, green, grey, black or white hue.

Instead of the the $775 entry to Barker Black's standard line, this new collection begins at $425 for the moccasins, $495 for the slippers and $550 for the sneakers. Well, except for the Hartwell slip-on wingtip loafer (pictured) in antique honey calf, which takes you back up to $775. You can get those for your accountant - we have a feeling he'll let that expense slide. They'll be available from March at Barker Black stores and online.

Lanvin Patent Leather Wedges

Perhaps it's the excitement and Oscar buzz over Black Swan, but Lanvin's Patent Wedges ($1280) completely reminds me of the movie. I can just imagine Natalie Portman's character wearing these to show her femme fatale side. They are seductively gorgeous and have an air of powerfulness with shimmering patent leather, a nude colored silk ribbon ankle tie which beautifully breaks up all the black, and 1 1/2" platform that instantly forces you to take notice. A subtle detail that speaks volumes is the angled detail on Lanvin's 5 1/2" wooden wedge heels. Wear with wide leg pants for a conservative look or with a body hugging dress to show off your femme fatale side.

Lisa for Donald J Pliner Barco Boots

A basic brown boot with subtle leather detailing makes for a fashionable and classic look. The Barco ($165) by Lisa for Donald J Pliner has qualities of a motorcycle boot, but a chunky high heel and slim body creates a feminine and alluring feel.

While an over-the-knee boot can run a fine line between sexy and street walker, luckily the Barco has a balanced combination of casual chic and femininity. I especially love the braided detail and exposed metal studs. These accents allow for the boots to stand out but not be too flashy. They can be worn casually or dress them up for a night out.

Maison Martin Margiela Fold Over Boot

Straying away from the slim fitting, skinny high heeled tall boots, today we feature a rugged Fold Boot ($329) from Maison Martin Margiela.

It's a classically styled, no nonsense boot that can be comfortably worn all day, everyday. With features like a chunky heel and a round toe box, you can say goodbye to pains and aches.

Margiela's brown chunky boots would look ideal with leggings or steel gray skinny jeans contrasted with an ultra feminine top.

Alexander McQueen College Bootie

Alexander McQueen's Tan Booties ($1165) uniquely merges various trends to create a breathtakingly gorgeous pair of boots. Small cutouts along the sides outlined in white leather along with lace detailing offer a hint of sophistication and sexiness. McQueen's College Booties are styled in a complementing light caramel leather that accentuates the shape and adornments. A darker color would overpower the accents making them easily overlooked. While a skinny 5 1/3" heel won't fair so well in the snow, they are a perfect match to the boot's overall look.

Tod's Unveils Men's A/W 2011-12 Collection

Famed luxury goods firm Tod's has just unveiled its luxe men's collection for the Autumn / Winter 2011–2012 season, amping up the formality a notch while remaining the epitome of casual elegance and chic refinement. Highlights for the upcoming season include new takes on Tod's classic Winter Gommino boots as well as more formal black patent leather loafers (above, right) with a distinct wedged black rubber sole that come in a range of lace-up and slip-on versions. Other featured items include an impressive selection of bags, luggage accessories and small leather goods such as wallets and iPad cases in a range of leathers and precious exotic skins such as crocodile and python. A standout piece is the black transversal 24-hour bag (above, center) in matte black crocodile, a stylish cross between a business and weekend case. Being vertically challenged, I'm happy to see platforms returning into style without the bulkiness we've seen in the past, but with a more refined and sexy look. Platforms offer height without having so much pressure on the balls of your feet. But once combined with sky scraping heels, that comfort is time limited.

The KG by Kurt Geiger Hampstead Heels ($264) offer a feminine, sleek platform packaged in 70's chic with modern appeal. A black and gold color palette with touches of shimmer lends Geiger's heels to be ideal for an evening out of dinner, dancing and drinks. Ltd. Edition Barbour x Rockport Boots

Classic British outerwear brand Barbour has collaborated with Massachusetts-based footwear firm Rockport on a new limited edition capsule collection of men's boots. The boots, which come in three styles ranging from a Chukka to a tall cap toe boot blend Barbour's iconic waxed cotton found in its classic jackets with Rockport's famously comfortable construction. The Rockport x Barbour collection also features Barbour heritage tartans and Barbour hardware as well as an integrated adiPRENE by Adidas footbed, which provides superior shock absorption at the heel strike. Throughout the collection Rockport has paid considerable attention to details including hand stitched linings, fine pull up leathers, and rawhide laces. In addition Rockport has used its patented Walkability outsole, which helps mimic the natural walking stride by assuring a smooth strike and an efficient roll and flex of the foot throughout the walking motion. Prices for the collection range from $180 – $220 per pair.

Alberto Guardiani's $400 Lipstick

Would you pay $400 for lipstick? Probably not. How about $400 for lipstick that you wear – on your feet? Maybe. Italian shoe designer Alberto Guardiani has merged two of fashion's sexiest accessories – red lipstick and black high heels to create his Lipstick Heels. Guardiani's show stopping heels will certainly inject an unexpected twist to your outfit given their quirky and unique heel. While you may not get much bang for your buck - how often can you realistically wear lipstick heels? - they would be fun to wear and serve as a total conversation starter.

Grey Ant x Teva Limited Edition Sport Stilettos

Stilettos are not generally a sport shoe but some women treat them as such, doing everything from all-day shopping trips to housework in them day in and day out. If you're of the persuasion that everything is better in heels then this collaboration between NY-based clothing brand Grey Ant and outdoor hiking and sport shoe company Teva could be a match made in heaven. The result is touted as "the most comfortable, performance high heel on the planet" and features Teva's Velcro-grip styling and grip-sole construction plus a whopping 4" stacked heel courtesy of Grey Ant. They're chunky but feminine and actually, in a weird way, do fit in with the whole outdoor scene (although they are still a stiletto girls, so no real rock or tree climbing please). $330

The $155,000 Eternal Borgezie Stilettos were the most expensive shoes in 2010 and took three years for British jewelry designer Christopher Michael Shellis to create. They're handcrafted by a goldsmith and then a jeweler, who encrusts them with 2,200 diamonds for a total of 30 carats of sparkle. Shellis was quoted as saying "The result is not so much a shoe, but rather a fine piece of jewelry that can be miraculously yet practically worn as the ultimate feminine adornment."
