Real pets can be a bit problematic if you have kids. Not only can it be challenging to have to clean up after more than one of them at a time, but it also takes a while for kids to learn how to handle themselves around animals. Sheep offer a way for kids to have a cuddly animal around without mess and without risking injury to either child or animal.
