World's Most Expensive Poker Set for $7.5 Million

Talk about high stakes – Geoffrey Parker, London-based maker of the finest games on the globe, is offering the world's most expensive poker set for $7.5 million. The bespoke set comes housed in a genuine alligator skin case finished in any color the client chooses, fitted with 18k white gold combination locks and hardware. The case' suede lining features an 18k gold and diamond frame holding 384 18k white gold chips, each inlaid on both sides in shagreen (stingray skin). The chips can be in any currency and denomination the client desires; the display set features chips marked €100,000 – or about $140,000 at today's rates.

The edge of each chip is set with precious stones – white diamonds for the white chips, sapphires for the blue, rubies for the red, emeralds for the green and black diamonds for the black. The dealer button is be a larger 18 karat white gold chip set with two rows of diamonds to the edge. The set will feature an estimated 22,364 stones in all, totaling 1,012 carats. Finally there are four platinum-plated decks of poker cards. Orders are now being taken with an expected delivery time of six to nine months; the price may go up if the precious stones and metals market fluctuates.

German Newspaper Scores Sneak Peek Inside Abramovich's Eclipse

German newspaper Bild has scored an exclusive sneak peak inside Roman Abramovich's new 557-ft. Eclipse (above), the world's largest and most expensive privately owned yacht which was recently completed by Hamburg shipyard Blohm + Voss at a cost estimated to be near $1 billion. The gigayacht boasts every luxury finish imaginable in its nearly 20,000-sq-.ft. interior, including a master suite upholstered in shagreen (stingray skin) on the topmost sixth deck with a retractable moon roof. On Deck 4 there are two VIP suites and eight guest cabins, while accommodations for the 80 crew members needed to man the massive vessel are located in the bow. The décor however is fairly understated with earth tones predominating, we note. One of the three helicopter landing pads disappears under the deck with the push of a button, and the yacht also features the world's largest onboard swimming pool which converts into a dancefloor, in addition to a wellness center including a fitness studio, hairdresser, massage parlor, sauna, steambath and whirlpool. Bild notes the Eclipse will cost about $100,000 per day, or $36.5 million per year, to operate. Check out some exclusive interior images here.

The Shagreen Games Compendium is handmade by expert artisans exclusively for Alfred Dunhill and is inspired by pieces in the Dunhill archive. The games chest is formed using cedar wood and then covered in the very finest grey shagreen leather and elegantly trimmed with ebony with stainless steel hardware. The shagreen provides a protective element as it is remarkably durable. The Compendium contains shagreen-embellished chess, backgammon and noughts & crosses boards with all counters and pieces finished in sterling silver. A bottom tray houses two packs of Dunhill playing cards, poker dice, bridge score cards and Dunhill pencils.

Gold Vermeil Bug on a Cuff

Sometimes I write about things because I love them, and sometimes because I hate them but they're just too crazy to pass up. This Shagreen Cuff with Gold Vermeil Bug falls somewhere in the middle. I love cuff bracelets, and usually I go for unusual pieces but this large insect is just a little too creepy -- look at the size of the fangs! Maybe it would work with a goth ensemble?

The cuff, however, is a beautifully textured gray shagreen, and the insect is 14k gold and decorated with rubies, sapphires, green agates, and crystals. $1,450

I'm always a little torn when it comes to liking box-style clutches because although I like the way many of them look, carrying a hard-sided bag with sharp corners and rough surface textures doesn't feel very luxurious in my hands.
