Mummy Chair

The Mummy Chair! It sounds a little scary but it isn't really -- it actually looks quite comfy. Nothing like taking the hard edges off what looks to be a fairly standard dining chair. Designed by Peter Tragg in 2005, it's created by covering a beech-wood chair and polyurethane foam with polyester ribbon. There are 5 different "Mummies" in the collection and aside from the black and gray they all have a decidedly whimsical feel because of the bright colors. Made in Italy, $1010.

Swilken Bench

Those who have visited St. Andrew's golf course in Scotland may see something familiar in this bench - it was inspired by the Swilken Bridge on the 18th green of that course. Made from reclaimed flooring, the gently curved seating surface sweeps across a 70" long expanse, coming to rest on concrete bases at either end. The bench measures 16.5" wide x 18.5" high and can be used indoors or out. Available in solid walnut or maple, it is from Acronym Designs and sells for $3500.

Poltrona Chaise Lounge

I've always loved the idea of chaise lounge chairs, but somehow I've managed never to have one. I'll have to fix that, and I'm thinking this Poltrona Chaise Lounge is very appealing. It has simple, classic lines, with the most attractive feature (for somebody moody like me anyway) being it's flexibility to either serve as a long inviting recliner or a straight-backed and more formal chair. Designed by Stefan Heiliger and available from Bonaldo, the Poltrano is available in either black or beige.

I know I said I wanted a chaise, but I personally think it looks the best converted to the chair!

Panton Amoebe Chair

Created by Vernon Panton, the Amoebe chair from Vitra is now available in bright colors and as always can be arranged in a variety of ways to fit your needs and/or your changing moods. Have just one sitting alone, group several together, or line a few up to form a sofa or loveseat. Its very simple shape was first designed for the Visiona Expo, and this new release not only boasts a palette of new shades but also increased comfort due to a new and improved flexible backrest shell. £700

Newson's Lockheed Lounger Will Sell For Millions

Cutting edge design doesn't come cheap, and with every day, month, and year that goes by it only gets more and more expensive. Case in point: Christie's will soon be auctioning off the most expensive piece ever by a living designer. It's the Marc Newson Lockheed lounge chaise, and it's expected to go for more than $2.4 million next month. That's one expensive lounge chair -- do you think they'll let bidders try it out/sit in it beforehand?

This sale is expected to blow the previous record (also a Newson piece that sold for $1 million earlier this year) out of the water by more than a little. Would you pay that much for this seat?

The Aquapub

Although here in the Midwest pool season is almost over, there are those lucky to be living in areas where they may just be getting started with the warm season or else it's toasty all year round. For those folks (or those of us in colder climates can put it on our wish list for next year) this Aquapub not only looks like bunches of fun, but it looks like unique fun your neighbors probably aren't offering. It's one thing to enjoy a Mai Tai by the pool, but what about in it? That can be a little awkward unless you have the Aquapub that seats six and comes complete with cup holders, 2 stashes, and an umbrella. It drains water, is a portable 90 lbs and is made of recycled materials. What more could you want?

Willow Chair

When I first heard the name Willow Chair I pictured a softer looking design with rounded or flowing shapes, but in reality the focus is on vertical and horizontal lines. Designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh in 1903 for The Willow Tea Rooms in Glasgow, it's inspired by his interest in Japanese design. You can see the shape of a tree formed by the checkers and straight lines of the chair back, and now available from Design Icons it's made of black lacquered ash with a cushion of leather, velvet, or cotton. £1155

The Fatboy Outdoor

Designed by Jukka Setala it has a UV treated heavy denier polyester exterior which has been coated in PVC to make it both water and fade resistant. It's filled with millions of tiny EPS pieces which makes it great to sit on in any number of arrangements. It can be folded, propped, or rolled, which means you can sit on it, lean on it, or sleep on it comfortably. Plus it has two large straps that provide both additional support in some sitting positions and a means to make transporting easier. And of course it comes in several fun bright colors, and washes clean with just a damp cloth. $349

AGK Ball Lounge Chair

The AGK Ball lounge chair was designed by Andre Agassi and Stefanie Graf and is part of a complete Agassi Graff Collection that includes furniture designs for indoors and out. Geometrical and appearing to "float on air" (I don't know if I would say that), this lounge chair is made of hand-shaped, welded, powder-coated, weather-resistant steel wire that is hand-wrapped in dark brown polypropel synthetic rattan. And the seat cushion, of course, also comes in weather-resistant fabric, shown here in cream. 45"x45"x35"

Darwin Wood Arm Chair

Laura Ashley gets it right pretty often, but she definitely did something great with this effort. Overall I just love this Darwin Wood Arm Chair. It's a mix of retro and modern with a nice sense of earthiness, it's cheerful without being obnoxious, and it's surprisingly stylish considering in this print it has such a neutral color scheme. But it comes in 4 color options, is easy to clean and care for, and its curved wooden arms and puffy rounded seats make it more than just a little inviting -- it may become the favorite seat in the house. £525

Corona Chair & Foot Stool

The Corona chair and foot stool was designed by Poul M. Volther and was first released in 1964. It's futuristic "floating" design is not only artistic but also functional, created to give maximum support to the spinal column and ribs of the person sitting in it. When it was originally released the frame was made of solid oak, but today it's crafted in stainless steel with upholstered cushioned seats. The name "Corona" comes from the fact that the shapes of the chair are reminiscent of the phases the sun goes through during an eclipse, and those shapes can either be used as backrests or armrests, depending on your preference. Available in a variety of colors, you can have one for £549.

The Loopty Loopy Loopita

Try to say "Loopty Loopy Loopita" ten times fast -- it'll put your tongue in a twist that looks something like this chair I bet. Every so often a design puts off a vibe that's pure happiness, and to me this is one of those designs. The name obviously inspires laughter, but the chair itself looks like a big orange peel to me -- which inspires more laughter. What does it look like to you?

Designed by Victor Aleman, it's flexible as far as how many "loops" you want and how far apart they're spaced, and it's made from a single piece of red oak coated in high-density foam. Talk about interesting seating arrangement possibilities by mixing and matching several Loopty Loopy Loopitas together in the same room! Definitely not for the serious at heart.

E-Turn Bench by Kundalini

E-turn refers to eternity - as in an endless ribbon of gracefully curving fiberglass. Winding over and around, the handmade bench looks good from any angle and the bright lacquered finish sets it aglow. While it doesn't look particularly comfortable, there is no denying that it is striking. Measuring 72.8" long by 22" wide by 16.5" high, the bench is available as shown in white, orange, red or black. $3325.

Tsubomi chair

Described as looking like something growing up out of the forest floor (a flower bud in KuKunochi to be exact), the Tsubomi chair fits its inspiration of a bright future quite well. Warm, inviting, and fluid in design, any room featuring this chair will need fewer decorative accents as it has the artistic look of a sculpture, albeit an upholstered one. Created by the 3 person design team Leif.designpark based in Japan, Tsubomi draws greatly on Japanese culture and history for its inspiration, meaning, and appearance.

The ultimate in portable yet stylishly good looking furniture, the One Shot.Mgx stool provides both a handy place to sit and easy space-saving storage options.
