Fred Segal Fun Debuts G-Bike and G-Bike Chopper

Filed under: Gadgets, Green, Men's Style

Fred Segal Fun Bike
The new G-Bike at Fred Segal Fun lives up to the "Fun" brand moniker in a number of unexpected ways.

Firstly, there are the colors; this snazzy scooter-bicycle hybrid is available in the above yellow, a grassy green, dark blue, red, sleek black and white and several other shades, with new hues being developed all the time (or, for a premium, you can design your own). Also, like a hybrid should be, the G-Bike is an eco-friendly, zero-emissions vehicle.

This fully electric scooter-bike can run up to 20 miles per hour for 35 miles per charge (which takes four to eight hours). It's well-suited to students and professionals in urban environments -- people who could walk, but are too awesome to do so. Best of all, you don't need a license to drive it or a registration to have it. Additional features include removable pedals, a remote control alarm, brakes, rear-view mirrors, a horn and ample storage space for books, a work bag, groceries, shopping bags or whatever you have.

The G-Bike is available from the Fred Segal Fun store in Santa Monica (310-394-9814) for $1,100. Check out some of the other colors and the stylish G-Bike Chopper (a more bicycle-like motor-bicycle) in the gallery below.

Lagerfeld Debuts Mink-Covered iPod Helmets

Filed under: Apparel, Gadgets, Luxury Cars & Autos

At his Paris fashion show on Sunday, the ever-entertaining Karl Lagerfeld debuted a new line of luxurious mink-covered scooter helmets with built-in iPod capability. The over-the-top accessories were created in collaboration with French luxury helmet maker Les Ateliers Ruby and Apple. They're road legal and feature full carbon fiber shells and ultra-soft burgundy nappa lambskin linings. The iPod hookup lets you pipe music directly to the earpieces.

Lagerfeld, who also heads up Chanel and Fendi, showed matching mink vests and other garments in the futuristic fashion show for his eponymous label. Apparently the haute helmets are Lagerfeld's comment on the recessed economy. "Now everyone is on scooters, even chic women, so we had to do the helmet," he explained. No word yet on when the helmets might be made available for sale or what their price would be, but safe to say they'll be extremely expensive.

The New Vespa GTS 300 Super

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

Classic Italian scooter maker Vespa just unveiled its newest and most powerful model at the New York Motorcycle Show. The sporty GTS 300 Super (above) can hit speeds of up to 80 mph, and gets about 70 miles to the gallon. Available in either black or white, the new Vespa (which means "wasp" in Italian) will sell for $6,199 beginning in March. Along with a souped-up engine and extra large wheels, the GTS 300 Super features sporty touches like a side grill on the rear engine panel, a red spring on the front shock, two-tone alloy rims, a black-rimmed headlight and chrome air intake. Vespa, founded in 1946, has featured in many stylish films from Roman Holiday and La Dolce Vita to Quadrophenia.

A $12,000 Ferrari?

Filed under: Luxury Travel & Hotels, Luxury Cars & Autos

Dropping just $12,000 for a Ferrari might sound like a dream-come-true... but don't get too excited. The Ferrari you'd be picking up only goes 12.5 miles per hour.

In fact, despite its branded image, the Limited Edition Ferrari PTi2 apparently has no performance advantage over the original, though its leather-trimmed handlebars, classic Ferrari red paint and Scuderia Ferrari logo certainly make the personal transport vehicle look the park.

Like the original, the PTi2 can go about 64 miles on a single charge at speeds two to three times as fast as the average walker. Ferrari's employees apparently scoot around their Maranello plant on Segways quite a bit to save time.
