Will Sarah Ferguson File For Bankruptcy?
It was pretty clear that Duchess of York was in financial trouble after she was caught by a British tabloid trying to sell access to her ex-husband Prince Andrew for £500,000 back in May. But now it seems that she could become the first senior royal to file for bankruptcy. British newspapers are reporting that at one point she had debts of £5 million (nearly $8 million) but now owes more like £2 million. Prince Andrew may have given his ex-wife around £1.5 million to help her out but some are saying that bankruptcy, regardless of the scandal, might be the best way to get her back on track. Her personal debts have mostly been resolved but business debts are still outstanding. Her former company, Hartmoor, which managed her books, licensing deals and other interests closed with debts of £650,000 and she canceled a lucrative contract with WeightWatchers. She also owes a law firm £200,0o0. The Daily Mail says that she can't afford to fix her Bentley, a car which was a gift from her friend Geir Frantzen. Many of her debts are in the U.S. but a way out may be found there too. Could Oprah Winfrey rescue her? Last month reports had Oprah offering Ferguson a chat show on the new cable network OWN, which is debuting in January. Ferguson appeared on 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' back in May when the scandalous tape showing her bargaining for access to Prince Andrew was revealed.
