Prince Edward of Wales certainly knew how to show his love for Wallis Simpson. The man who gave up a kingdom for love, gave the object of his affection this amazing Cartier brooch with their initials W and E done is rubies and sapphires. The brooch is now for sale again at Bonhams in London on Dec. 7. The auction has an estimate of up to 35,000 pounds ($67,729), lower than the $95,333 it brought when it was first on the market in the 1980s. Will Posh Get Keira's Necklace For Her Birthday?

Another year older already? It's time yet again for the birthday of Posh Spice, otherwise known as Victoria Beckham. The Beckhams are infamous for their lavish birthday fetes and this year is no different. Last year they partied in Paris, this year Victoria is having a Japanese-themed party at the Beckham manse in Madrid. The walls will be covered in Japanese silk and chefs from Nobu will prepare the food which includes lobster tails served in martini glasses and exotic fruits and sorbets. But the big news is Victoria's gift. Rumor has it she will be given a copy of the necklace that Keira Knightly wore to the Oscars this year. The massive vintage collar which drips with diamonds, sapphires, rubies and emeralds has been said to cost around $12 million. After the big day, the couple will enjoy a vacation in the Italian lakes area. What a way to turn 32.

Results of Sotheby's Magnificent Jewels Auction

No one took home the ruby and diamond necklace and earrings that I posted about when I first mentioned the Sotheby's sale which took place today in St. Moritz. The fact that these didn't sell didn't mean that the sale was a bust. Some items sold over estimate. Two lots contested for the top spot, both coming in at 580,000 CHF (approx. $443,000). The first was this pair of natural Burmese sapphire and diamond earrings. Each earring features an oval and a detachable pear-shaped sapphire surrounded by diamonds and mounted in yellow gold. The lot (estimated to sell for 280,000 to 400,000 CHF) also came with a simulated diamond necklace on which to attach drops. The other lot that sold at the same price was a brilliant-cut diamond 7.14 carat ring.

Gaia 23°27' Watch

Filed under: Jewelry, Timepieces / Watches

Wow, this little piece of heaven is featured on Europastar and is called Gaïa 23°27'. The watch was created by  Anatole Le Grand Edouard. The Gaïa 23°27' is a jewelry watch that features a bracelet of pink gold spheres that are slightly flattened on the interior. The main sphere, which has a diameter equal to 500 millionths of the diameter of the Earth, features an automatic calibre movement which is set off center and inclined to 23°27' which is the angle of inclination of the Earth’s rotational axis to its elliptical plane. The watch is full of celestial themes like comets, planets and stars rendered in diamonds, rubies and colored sapphires. The center is supposed to invoke the sun (although it reminds me a bit of a bloodshot eye). A total of 440 diamonds and 519 gemstones went into the piece and the tiny dial is actually a 2.32 carat ruby cabochon with a hole in the center. The watch is the first model in a limited series of 22 pieces.
