Gianfranco Ferré High-Heeled Sandals

Gianfranco Ferré is commonly referred to as "the architect of fashion", his signature label reflects years of experience and his expertise in all things "haute". Ferré became fashion director at Christian Dior in '89, and successfully integrated his relaxed ready to wear style into the company. Although he passed away last year his designs and impact on the fashion world live on. These high heel sandals demonstrate the elegance that is Gianfranco Ferré...snakeskin print black leather with gold hardware and an understated 3 inch heel. Available online for $603.

Bottega Veneta Python Sandals

Bottega Veneta has been making exclusive high quality couture since the early 1960's. After merging with Gucci a few years ago I have noticed their designs appeal to a younger crowd and seem to be getting more stylish with each passing season. These new python sandals are perhaps their most popular shoe to date and are available exclusively to those willing to pre- order and join the waiting list. With a four inch heel, gold hardware and python straps these sandals aren't cheap, they retail for $1,170 and based on their popularity nobody seems to mind!

D & G Round-Toe Flats

Dolce & Gabbana is an Italian based fashion house famous for its trend setting designs. These unique and playful D&G flats caught my attention, they remind me of the jelly sandals I had in the 80s! Available in eye catching shades, bright pink, lime green, turquoise, or violet and made of satin, it's hard to pick a favorite. Available for $485 on the Neiman Marcus website where any shoe purchase over $200 entitles you to a butterfly shoe bag.

YSL Tribute Sandal

Yves Saint Laurent has been making fine leather shoes and purses, as well as haute couture since 1962, they are known for their refined and modern elegance. This seasons must have sandal is the YSL Tribute Sandal. These woven leather, open toe, brown sandals are versatile enough to wear with jeans or a breezy sundress. YSL doesn't cut any corners when it comes to comfort and quality, like all their shoes, these have a padded insole on top of that sexy 4 inch platform heel. Tribute sandals are available on Barneys.com for $780.

Lanvin T-Strap Sandal

Lanvin brings you another fashion forward shoe this Spring, the T-Strap Sandal. With a towering wood, cone shaped heel (measuring over 4 inches) and a platform toe, these high sandals spice up any up any little sundress or shorts outfit. Made of fine black leather and topped with a square over sized, silver bow, you better make sure you have a perfect pedicure before putting these on, because people will definitely be checking them out! They retail for $1,055 and are available online and in high end stores, when they aren't sold out!

Cobra Hired To Guard Jeweled Sandals

In today's age of motion and touch sensors and every other kind of high-tech gadget we've got for security of precious goods, Harrods in London recently took a unique step to protect a pair of very expensive shoes: they hired a poisonous cobra to stand (sit? slither?) guard.

Obviously this was a publicity stunt, not a real security effort, but I say good for them. That's pretty clever, and for all intents and purposes it worked. The cobra has since returned to its owner and the shoes are, I'm sure, under a more traditional lock and key type security system.

Curious what kind of shoes warranted such a show? A pair of red sandals by Rene Caovilla that are encrusted with rubies, sapphires, and diamonds and valued at about $120,000.

Bruno Frisoni Stiletto Patent Sandal

Yow! (as my husband would say) these Stiletto Heels by Bruno Frisoni are sexy! And maybe part "lady of the night-ish" with its gold toned spiked heels. But I would totally try to make them reflect a sense of sex appeal rather than reflect a sense of accepting cash for services. Probably more appropriate for evening affairs, if worn during the day, these Frisoni's Stiletto Sandals would certainly upgrade the typical jeans and cute top ensemble. Price: $595.

Versace Scarf Thong Sandal

During the summer months, sometimes it feels like the goal in getting dressed in the morning is to wear as little as possible just to stay cool. Of course you still want to be fashionable (and look respectable) without sweating like a pig. One of the things I hate most are sweaty feet – what an uncomfortable feeling! These Versace Scarf Thong Sandals may give your feet the breathing room they need. A modern and sophisticated alternative to the very popular ballet flats, they are made of white leather and elegantly decorated with a gold & orange abstract logo-print scarf. Price: $307.

Lily Holt Santa Cruz Sandals

Okay, perhaps the $20,000 diamond flip-flops were a bit much. Perhaps instead a thong sandal with a cluster of semiprecious stones is more your thing. Lily Holt's shoes are handcrafted in Argentina. The Santa Cruz sandals come in a choice of coral, crystal, turquoise, pink topaz, jade, onyx, tiger eye, and pearls so they are surprisingly dressy. If you want to spend the summer without ever having to endure closed toe shoes and still want to seem glammed up these are your sandals. They can be found online for $209.

Moszkito Diamond Flip Flops

Diamonds on the soles of her shoes? How about diamonds across your flip-flops instead. Moszkito makes flip-flops with arch support that are meant for more than just a trip to the beach. The Snake Charmer flip-flop features 24 round, full-cut, high quality diamonds (6 carats total) on a black leather shoe. The Moszkito Arch Sandals offer more support than a traditional flip-flop and comes in a variety of price ranges, styles and colors. The diamond-decorated version sells for $20,000.

Fornarina Flat Polka Dot Sandals

When I think of patterns that are fashionable and wearable, polka dots doesn't usually end of up the list. I suppose they can convey a young almost child-like feel but then in that same respect can convey a care free and fun spirit. When I came across these sandals by Fornarina, I could instantly picture an outfit with them, which really surprised me. But, they are fun and could be worn with virtually anything while adding a splash of color. This summer be comfortable and fashionable with Fornarina's Flat Polka Dot Sandals. Price: $120.

Marc Jacobs Studded Platform Sandals

We all knew that platforms would be making its appearance in this cyclical fashion world once again, but I never thought it would actually transcend past the runway shows. Some of the more outrageous looking shoes will hopefully stay on the runways, but it appears that a few will make it's way into the public sector. I did the whole chunky platform thing before and for the most part they are actually quite comfortable (especially ones that did not have a high arch), but I am not sure if I've got enough for a second go around. These Studded Platform Sandals by Marc Jacobs may be as far as I can go with thicker platform shoes. The criss cross wonders are accented with white stitching and gold studs for your funky and groovy attire. Price: $410.

Nanette Lepore for Keds

It looks like Target isn't the only company out recruiting higher-end designers to attract a broader spectrum of consumers to their normally mid-range products. Nanette Lepore teamed up with Keds to put together a line of stylish, casual shoes and sandals for summer. The shoes are all fun, with whimsical prints that bear Lepore's signature touch, and with the comfort (and price) of the casual shoe brand. Pictured are the Nanette Lepore Script Print Sandals, which have a feminine print, a medium-size bow and the hint of a heel. Price: $60.

Louis Vuitton AIX Thong

Thong sandals may have been deigned as beachwear, but that is hardly the only place they are seen these days. Casual and comfortable, they are great to have around in spring and summer as a quicker, cooler alternative to trainers. The only real drawback to thongs is that it can be tough to find a stylish and high quality pair, especially for men. The Louis Vuitton AIX Thong is one possible solution. It is made of ultra-soft black calf leather and has a padded insole for comfort. The sole and the outer strap both bear the Louis Vuitton signature logo. Price: $420.

Wall of Kiss Birkenstocks

We first mentioned Heidi Klum's collection from Birkenstock a couple of months ago when it seemed to be primarily available in Germany. The line is now hitting the US with some new spring styles, so expect to see them in stores this season. The pair pictured here are the limited edition Wall of Kiss Birkenstocks. The clogs are made of crushed suede and are adorned with Seal lyrics written in Heidi's hand. They are available in cream, black, blue, light brown and red, all with Birkenstock's signature footbed. Price: $225.
