Thong sandals may have been deigned as beachwear, but that is hardly the only place they are seen these days. Casual and comfortable, they are great to have around in spring and summer as a quicker, cooler alternative to trainers. The only real drawback to thongs is that it can be tough to find a stylish and high quality pair, especially for men. The Louis Vuitton AIX Thong is one possible solution. Birkenstock by Heidi Klum

Birkenstock is not one of the shoe brands that is usually associated with supermodels, but Heidi Klum collaborated with the German company to come up with a surprisingly stylish line of sandals that are also, like all of the designs from the company, orthopedically correct. The collection features silver and gold leather sandals, strappy lace-ups and a number of shoes that bear a strong resemblance to Converse styles from several years ago. Her collection also includes more traditional designs, like the black and white Napa leather sandals ($275) with rivets and crystals pictured here.

Coach Mattie Wedge Sandal

These ultra-summery Mattie Wedge Sandals are just waiting to go to the beach or strut down the boardwalk. I love how Coach used an applique technique to print fun, seasonal images on the sides of these, and the straw heel gives them just the right look for casual, daytime wear. The 4 1/2-inch high heel is not too high, considering what skyscrapers some of this season's shoes are, and the platform base adds plenty of stability. The cutest thing about them is the bee detailing on the leather thong. Pick up the matching wristlet to put the look together. Price: $158.

Capriceuse Wedge Sandal

How high is too high for a wedge heel? This Capricieuse Wedge from Louis Vuitton has a four inch wedge for added height without being perched upon a tiny stiletto. The sandal uses the classic Louis quatrefoil shape in a leather cutout design with gold links and metal studs. The sandal also has the same design stitched on the sole. The shoe is also available in white and sells for $640. It's a gorgeous summer shoe and one that will definitely leave interesting tanlines.
