NYC Named America's Richest City With Over 650,000 Millionaires

New York has been named America's richest city with a record 667,000 high-net worth individuals, or people with $1 million or more in investible assets, recorded as living there in 2009. The figure, 18.7% higher than in 2008, comes from the new Metro Wealth Index created by consulting firm Capgemini, the Wall St. Journal reports. New York not only topped the list but demolished the competition, with a sum greater than the total of the next three runners up combined – Los Angeles, Chicago and Washington. The number of millionaires in New York City – some of whom are of course billionaires – is now greater than the entire population of Boston. While growth is up across the board over 2008, only New York, D.C. (#4), Houston (#9) and San Jose (#10) are now above their 2007 or pre-recession levels, with the rest still languishing behind.

Kevan Barlow's San Jose Condo Up For Sale

A few weeks ago, Bleacher Report ran an interesting piece asking if anyone remembered Kevan Barlow. The running back was a college phenom who went into the NFL draft in 2001. He played seven whole NFL seasons including playing for the San Francisco 49ers but hasn't played since 2007. In the Bleacher Report article, the writer speculated that Barlow, who is only 30, might be "laying back in his house." If so, it wouldn't be this one. Sports Star Relocation has a listing for Barlow's one bedroom condo in San Jose, California. The condo in Santana Row was updated with $70,000 in upgrades which include a mahogany/glass divider, remote control window coverings and a stone slate full-size shower with a bench. This condo is listed at $430,000 an ambitious price for a condo anywhere right about now.

California Haunted House To Star In New Movie

I've always thought the story of San Jose, California's Winchester Mystery House would make a horror film and Andrew Trapani who was behind "The Haunting in Connecticut" seems to agree. He is producing a new movie starring the haunted house. The Winchester Mystery House was under construction for 38 years. Sarah L. Winchester, the heiress to the WInchester rifle fortune, obsessively designed the byzantine home keeping construction going 24 hours a day for 32 years until her death in 1922. Legend says that she kept building the home, which has 160 rooms including around 40 bedrooms, because she believed she was pursued by the ghosts of people killed by Winchester rifles. She wanted to outrun the spirits and home, which has doors that open onto nowhere and stairs that led up to ceilings, had many places to hide. The house's website says that there were no blueprints but Winchester sketched out original rooms on paper and even tablecloths.

Trapani told the Mercury News that he is currently working on a plot which combines a modern story about the house with flashes back into the past to try and probe why Winchester did what she did. The movie will be the first feature film granted permission to shoot on location at the home and filming is slated to begin by the end of the year. Tickets for the grand tour of the house sell for $31 each for adults.

ACM Plans Large Facility For Private Jets

ACM, a charter jet service and full service FBO based at the Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport in San Jose, California is planning a new luxurious facility. The 70,000-square-foot construction project will be a state-of-the-art club for their clients. The company currently has a fleet of 28 managed and chartered small aircraft such as a Hawker 800XP, Dassault Falcon 900, Gulfstream GV, Cessna Citation V and Bombardier Global Express. Industry website CharterX.com predicts that the facility will offer a gym, lounges, workstations and flight planning services for pilots. The club will offer a more private and convenient entrance to the aircraft and will be completed next year/
