Tony Parker In San Antonio, Estate of the Day

Eva Longoria Parker and Tony Parker have been working on a huge San Antonio mansion for a while. It must be close to completion because according to the Wall Street Journal's Private Properties, the pair have listed Parker's previous San Antonio home for sale. The five-bedroom stucco house is a comparatively modest home on .65 acres that include a pool and a half basketball court featuring the logo of Parker's team, the Spurs. The home is in a gated community and it has tile floors, a large kitchen and a master suite that has a double sided fireplace that opens to a whirlpool tub in the master bath. Other spaces include a wood-paneled study and a media room that leads to an outdoor terrace. Parker bought this home for $782,040 at the age of 19 in 2001 and added the pool and basketball court. This home is listed at $895,777.

Ivy Lane, Estate of the Day

It has some serious issues with carpet color but I like this San Antonio, Texas home because it looks like a real family home. The five-bedroom home was built 17 years ago by Texas architect Mac Chesney. It's got expansive covered outdoor living space that includes a full outdoor kitchen, wet bar, grill and fireplace. The family room and kitchen feature a vaulted peaked ceiling and plenty of space. The formal living room and dining room are a wee bit dated but I like the oak-paneled library, once you get rid of the carpeting.

I think this home could use a little modernizing. The fenced swimming pool doesn't have a pool house but the grounds are pre-wired so that a guest house or cabana can be added. Above the three-car garage there is a full kitchen and bath and it could be finished into a luxury guest suite. This home is listed at $4.5 million.

San Antonio Art Penthouse, Estate of the Day

This listing is another to check out just for the art. It's white walls and open spaces are home to an expansive contemporary art collection. The building, in San Antonio, Texas was originally a candy factory that has been converted to lofts. The building was purchased by Linda Pace, an artist and collector and the founder and trustee of Artpace San Antonio. Pace turned the fifth floor into her residence and the sixth floor into galleries and both are now for sale (Pace passed away last summer). It's a beautiful penthouse and a testament to the life of a woman truly devoted to art. It is listed at $5.7 million.

They say to never judge a book buy a cover and it could be said that judging a house by its exterior is a similar folly. That would definitely be the case with today's home in San Antonio, Texas. The outside reveals its past, a French country home built in the 1930s, all ivy and stone and charm. But the home was renovated in 2000 by owners with an eye to having a far more modern home. Modern art, track lighting and the use of exposed pipe furniture creates a very contemporary look. There are things to love here, the gleaming floors, the bright white bookcases and the serene pool and spa area. The overall look of the home is just so different from the outside that it is a bit disconcerting. It is listed at $3.7 million. After the jump, new art and old rugs.

West Paces Decides Not To Build In San Antonio

Filed under: Luxury Travel & Hotels

Solis isn't going to San Antonio after all. The San Antonio Express-News reports that the Atlanta-based West Paces Hotel Group won't be building a luxury hotel in San Antonio as was planned. Last year, we covered the announcement that Solis was launching with six hotels in Chicago, San Antonio, the Phoenix suburb of Paradise Valley, the Atlanta suburb of Alpharetta, Frankfurt, Germany and Orlando, Florida. The hotel in San Antonio was to be a Spanish colonial-style hotel that would have cost $35 to $40 million.  No reasons have been given for the hotel chain's decision but another Solis hotel, the Sunny Isles Beach hotel near Fort Lauderdale, Florida has been added to the list of the original six. In the article, Marco Barros, San Antonio Area Tourism Council executive director, is quoted as saying that the loss of the hotel isn't a big concern because so many other projects are coming to the San Antonio area.
