The L.A.M.B. Orissa Tri-Color Clutch is the perfect, understated, luxuriously soft purse for those with a vintage or boho flair.

The "buttery soft" imported leather is boldly dyed in a dark brick red, mustard yellow, dirty sky blue, and black to create a simple, yet interesting color palate reminiscent of the 1960s, but with a structured, neat design that brings the look into the new millennium. The Prada Pitone Tote is one seriously hot new handbag.

Posted on the Saks Fifth Avenue website:

"Due to popular demand, a customer may order no more than three units of this item every 30 days."

Good heavens! We also noticed that they are refusing to ship to California. And why is that? Python.

Pitone, for the uninitiated, means python in English, and it is unlawful to sell or ship python skin in California.

This python tote has a snakeskin side bow, leather lining, inside zip pocket and drawstring closure. Pretty fancy, but we'd imagine that the signature gold Prada logo is why it's selling quite so well.

The Prada Pitone Tote is available from Saks Fifth Avenue (unless you're in California) for $2,990.

The Nancy Gonzalez Crocodile Cutout Satchel makes us think instantly of spring -- flowing dresses in delicate pastels, espresso in outdoor cafes, shopping up and down 5th Avenue, and lightweight vintage gloves on a casual, cool evening.

The intricately cut crocodile layered over a finely woven fabric creates the illusion of lace, but with a grander, more opulent feel. We thought we couldn't like this purse any more, but then we discovered its velvety, soft, pale yellow suede lining.

The Nancy Gonzalez Crocodile Cutout Satchel has three inside pockets (one with a zipper), plus a cellphone pocket has a magnetic closure and protective "feet" on the bottom. The purse is 15"W X 12"H X 5"D.

The Mary Norton Rihanna Clutch is a bold little purse with a lot of personality.

This clutch may be small, but packs a lot of punch with its jazzy art deco design, satin leopard print lining, and bright marigold surface.

The detail you see on the Mary Norton Rihanna Clutch is actually a series of embroidered circles in metallic thread. The use of two colors of thread in the larger circles is reminiscent of an iris, and the effect is exquisite.

The purse has two inside dividers and a credit card pocket, as well as a detachable 24" chain link strap and a magnetic snap closure.

The Chloé Paraty Lambskin Shopping Satchel is classically luxurious with a modern, triangular shape.

The polished black lambskin and polished brass chain link hardware give the medium-sized (15½"W X 10"H) purse a vintage feel, but the tapering of the details on the outside of the bag make the look new. The bag is lined in an elegant beige cotton, and has a top zipper accompanied by a detachable shoulder strap with a 16" drop.

This sturdy Italian-made bag has double top handles, giving it a clearly-defined, voluptuous shape, and would look excellent carried with a brightly colored coat or with next season's vintage layered fabric look. Pair with yellow or pink gold jewelry and jewel-toned shoes for a splash of color.

David Yurman Celebrates Pav� this Season

I haven't had an opportunity to share this on Luxist yet but I adore David Yurman. His style is always consistent but fresh with new designs and changes in metals and stones. This particular partnership between sterling silver and pavé diamonds is my new favorite! The signature cable is still incorporated with glittering diamonds literally paving the way around each piece. It is truly stunning and you'll find everything from rings to bracelets, necklaces to earrings that you can mix and match together. Is it too late to put these on my wish list for the holidays?

We've already highlighted Swarovski's Annual Edition Ornament for 2008 but the luxury-minded shopper may have more sparkling needs in the ornament department. This iconic crystal company is offering sixteen other options for glamorous gifts or tree bling at your own home. Snowflakes are the most common design but angels, trees, stars and stockings with a touch of tasteful color will also ring in the holiday season beautifully. Mercedes Benz and Saks Support St. Jude's

Neiman Marcus, Nordstorm and Saks Prepare For Rough Times

The news isn't good for luxury department stores lately. Both Neiman Marcus and Saks have reported that same-store sales fell by double digits last month, numbers that are, as the Dallas Morning News Reports, reminiscent of the post-9/11 declines in 2001 and 2002. Neiman Marcus had a drop of 12.9 percent last month (Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman stores had a 15.8 percent drop but the Neiman Marcus Direct catalog and online business had a 5.3 percent increase). Saks saw same-store sales fall by 10.9 percent. Both companies also have said they don't expect things to get any better soon, they are predicting weaker sales for the rest of the year. Nordstrom is also suffering with a 9.6 percent decline in September same-store sales. The good news for consumers is that sales will start earlier than usual and discounts will be deeper during the upcoming holiday season. For these three stores especially, it is the return shopper that will sustain them. I predict that these loyal customers will most assiduously courted by the stores with free gifts, deep discounts and other enticements over the coming months so now might be a good time to sign-up for their email alert lists.

Prada's ruffle boot is a suede four-inch platform with gorgeous detailing from heel to ankle. The ruched ruffle (try it three times fast) is great in that almost-couture but totally wearable way.

The pair retails for $890, available at Saks or Barneys, though due to popularity Saks will only allow you to order three pairs every 30 days...three pairs? A generous quota considering the markets.

Gwyneth Paltrow Named Ambassador to 2008 Key to the Cure

Saks Fifth Avenue along with the Entertainment Industry Foundation recently announced that Gwyneth Paltrow will act as the new ambassador for the 2008 Key to the Cure, a women's cancer initiative. Karl Lagerfeld has designed the exclusive tee for the cause, with all proceeds going to cancer research.

The weekend-long shopping event is slated for October 16 through October 19 at Saks stores nationwide and online at saks.com. Two percent of proceeds from the weekend's totals will be donated to the Women's Cancer Research Fund. Now in its 10th year, the annual Key to the Cure event has raised over $28 million for cancer research and treatment programs.

More Grim News For The Luxury Market

Earlier this week the first quarter statements for two of the biggest luxury retailers, Saks and Neiman's, reported a healthy status but both aren't seeing as many shoppers as usual. For February, Saks enjoyed a small, little bump in revenue as sales rose 3.4 %, but Neimans dropped 7.3.% after January promotions. Although a recession never seems to affect the uber-affluent who will continue to shop for premium luxury items, the economic woes of late may make the aspiring customer hesitate until the market turns back around. I think its impressive how much internet buying adds to the bottom line -- last quarter Neiman's online sales were $180 million, up almost 16%! Both retailers are finding every opportunity they can to cut costs and provide items that will appeal to their customers, such as specialty items and certain must-have colors. Maybe they aren't enjoying the crowds of yesteryear but they aren't in any real pain yet...
