Döttling Colosimo Watch Case Is Tiny Safe

Döttling Colosimo Watch Case Is Tiny Safe
Aww, isn't it cute? The hefty sounding name of the Dottling Colosimo is a bit of an irony as this little guy is really a tiny safe. But how cool is it? Really quite a fun little invention, High-end German safe maker Dottling has created a fantastic looking safe for just one watch. It also doubles as a watch winder.

The name "Colosimo" actually has nothing to do with a colossus, but refers to Jim Colosimo who was an early 20th century Chicago gangster and back robber. Safe's like this were built in banks at the time to stop the likes of him. So Dottling thought it fancy to make a 1:13 scale model of one.

The watch case safe is fully functional. Having 16 radially arranged locking bolts and 32 gilged cogs to make it work. The safe is about an 11 inch wide square, but is made entirely from top quality German stainless steel. As such, the small safe weighs about 66 pounds!

To open the safe you need to enter a three digit combination lock entry - just like old times. Inside the Colosimo you can have a watch winder, or optionally a humidity controlled cigar humidor. The safe comes with mounting equipment as well as a luxury finishing, and the quality people have come to trust from Dottling. Price for the Colosimo is $23,800.

Custom Lamborghini Vault by Brown Safe Manufacturing

How rich do you need to be before you have to get a safe installed in your home? Hard to say, but if you've got a Lamborghini parked in the driveway, that's probably a good sign...both to the proprietor and to any would-be thieves.

That's what one Lambo owner apparently figured when he commissioned Brown Safe Manufacturing to craft him a special home vault to match his supercar. Life the Bentley and Bugatti safes build by rival firm Stockinger, the Brown Lamborghini safe has been trimmed out to complement the exotic automobile its meant to accompany, and features drawers for jewelry and watches.

Jaeger-LeCoultre Hybris Mechanica Watch Set Safe

Jaeger-LeCoultre Hybris Mechanica safe
I recently spoke about how the new Jaeger-LeCoultre Hybris Mechanica Grand Sonnerie watch and set (the most complex wrist watch in the world that comes with two other watches) was going to arrive in a safe as the presentation box. Well here is what that safe is going to look like, and there will be only 30 of these made. Each safe will be specially made by the German luxury safe company Doettling. Trust me that this is not even the most impressive watch safe that they have done. The Jaeger-LeCoultre Hybris Mechanica set safe will be made to look like a travel chest, but don't expect to move the 1,800 pound, six foot tall safe around with you easily.

Inside the safe is a watch lover's dream. Well, if you only own a handful of watches that is, and they are all happy being around Jaeger-LeCoultre branding. The innards of the case don't let you forget who "inspired" this horological refuge. The three watches in the Hybris Mechanica collection are prominently displayed in lit cubby holes, while eight watch winders flank the exhibit. The rest of the safe is reserved for other things, but you'll have to include them in between all the books and observation equipment that Jaeger-LeCoultre throws in the mix. Look at the pictures in the gallery and you'll notice various magnifying glasses as well as tools for your watch, plus other items likely hidden about.

The whole experience is pretty impressive for the select few who not only can afford the this ultimate trio of complex wristwatches, including the Hybris Mechanica Grande Sonnerie (26 complications with a total of 55 complications for all three watches), but who place their orders now and can think of a suitable place in [one of] their homes for heavyweight safe to "live." The Jaeger-LeCoultre Hyrbis Mechanica watch set will cost you between $2.5 - $3 million depending on the exchange rate. The first of the 30 sets will be delivered in the fall of 2010 with the final orders being finished in 2014.

Döttling Bel-Air Safe

The other day when I covered the estate of basketball player Cuttino Mobley, I mentioned briefly that he had been robbed of $500,000 of watches, jewelry and cash in a robbery that seems to be part of a sophisticated series of home invasions plaguing Beverly Hills and surrounding areas in Los Angeles. Mobley might be well served by getting his hands on the beauty shown at right, the Bel-Air safe from Döttling,a company I first covered last year for the posh and secure safes. The Bel-Air is custom made for the individual users and has the look of a luggage trunk. It can be customized with shelves, racks, lockable drawers, jewelry compartments, mini bars, watch collector cabinets or watch winders, gun cabinets, humidors or just about anything you can think of and uses patented armor plating containing vulcanized hard sinter ceramic stones with a hardness grade of 9 (out of 10). The safes meet all insurance requirements.
