Chris Webber's Restaurant Shuts Down

chris webberFormer Sacramento Kings basketball star Chris Webber is out of the restaurant business at least for the time being. The Sacramento Bee reports on the closure of Center Court With C-Webb, the sports restaurant he opened in the area three years ago. The restaurant closed today but a phone message on the restaurant's line says that there may be a new location in the future. No one is sure why the restaurant suddenly closed and whether or not the economy played a factor. Last month, Sacramento police arrested a man in connection with a fatal gang-related shooting outside the restaurant. The restaurant served sandwiches, steak and a variety of burgers including the "Fab 5," a burger with 44 ounces of choice Angus beef which sold for $29.50.

The 198-room hotel includes a Governor's Suite with views of the Capitol while the Mayor's Suite offers views of City hall. In keeping with the political theme each room has one of 40 classic political cartoons and bedside lampshades inscribed with text from the California constitution. The Grange restaurant serves local, seasonally-driven food. Because so many people come to Sacramento for business weekend rates are cheaper, weekday rates start at $249 while weekend rates start at $149.

Another fantastic summer wine event, The Grape Escape, takes place on June 23 in Sacaramento. This year's event takes place at Raley Field and will include a performance by musician Michael McDonald (an appropriate choice since he made his own wine with Ledson Winery). The tasting brings together 37 wineries from the eight growing regions in the Sacramento area. The event also includes food prepared by local restaurants and a chefs competition that features chefs battling against each other to prepare dishes on the fly. Tickets start at $47.50 for both the tasting and the concert and a VIP table costs $425.

No, this project is coming to Sacramento, California's capital, an area not known for radical design. BCN Development is planning the 38 story tower which is conveniently located near the state Capitol building. The modern condos feature Bulthaup kitchens with Miele applicances. Amenities include a pool and hot tub with a lounging area, a roof garden, massage and steam rooms, a gym, concierge and climate-controlled wine and cigar lockers. The building will have 258 condos and prices will range between $400,000 and $1.5 million.
