As we mentioned recently golf's Ryder Cup is headed to Wales and the Celtic Manor Resort this year. The biennial competition between the best professional players in the U.S. and Europe runs from September 30 to October 3 and all eyes will be watching, if only to see what sort of showing Tiger Woods makes. An article in the Dallas Morning News goes into a little bit of the history resort.

Sir Terry Matthews has spent more than $217 million to convert the former Lydia Beynon hospital to the Celtic Manor Resort and to renovate and add to its existing golf course. The resort has three golf courses including the new Twenty Ten golf course that the Ryder cup teams will play on. There are also the Roman Road and the Montgomerie courses as well as a golf academy featuring a floodlit driving range, practice range, golf shop and teaching bays and two clubhouses, The Twenty Ten Clubhouse and The Lodge with its own bar, restaurant, health club and spa.
