Amrapali's Diamond Necklace Makes The Celebrity Rounds

Over the summer we saw Amrapali earrings on a bunch of celebrity ears. Now a dramatic bib necklace is making the fashionable rounds. Following the trend for statement necklaces, Kelly Osbourne, Troian Avery Bellisario and Kristin Cavallari (not shown) all wore the same Amrapali necklace. The Amrapali rose cut diamond collar necklace sells for $22,690. Osbourne wore the necklace and a white Bakelite and diamond ring ($3,330) to the FENDI boutique opening, hosted by Chloe Sevigny in conjunction with LACMA, at FENDI Beverly Center Boutique in Los Angeles on October 7th.

A wood cuff is usually a simple and inexpensive jewelry item. Not so when it comes from luxury designers Lotus Arts de Vivre. The ebony wood cuff is topped with a sinuous snake make of oxidized silver with 18K gold trim and set with approximately 13.843 carats of rose-cut diamonds and .484 carats of ruby eyes. The bracelet sells for $27,600.

Rose Cut Diamonds In Fashion

We saw them on Angelina Jolie at the Golden Globes, we saw them on Felicity Huffman and Cate Blanchett at the SAG Awards, but what exactly are rose cut diamonds? The rose cut is one of the older diamond cuts, it came into being in the 16th century when diamonds were polished using diamond dust. It has a flat bottom and a faceted top that rises to a point, making them dramatically different from the modern brilliant cut which has a flat table on the top, a faceted crown and a pointed pavilion underneath.

The rose cut provided more brilliance than other methods used at the time but fell out of favor once rotary saws and lasers started being used to cut diamonds because the rose cut is more wasteful than other cuts. Still, the rose cut is a sought after look, particularly in vintage or Indian jewelry. They provide more muted fire and brilliance than other blockbuster gems but provide their own mysterious glamour.
