Guy Ritchie Picks Up A New Rolls-Royce

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos, Celebrity Shopping

guy ritchie robert downey jude lawKim Kardashian isn't the only one to "see a Ghost" recently. Director Guy Ritchie, who is currently filming the second Sherlock Holmes movie, followed in Kardashian's footsteps picking up a new $250,000 Rolls Royce Ghost car. The Daily Mail reports that the director's new car was delivered straight to the set of his new film. They have pictures of Ritchie in his new purple and silver baby.

The Rolls-Royce Ghost is the smaller, more nimble sibling to the Phantom. The eight-speed automatic transmission luxury car is designed for a speedy driving experience to appeal to those driving as much as those being driven. It is powered by a twin turbo 6.6-litre V12 engine that gets up to 62 mph in 4.9 seconds and with a top speed of 155 mph. The interior is rich with soft full grain leather, natural wood veneers, Blenheim wool carpets and a cashmere-blend roof lining. Each Ghost is hand-built to order with a variety of custom options available.

Rolls-Royce Ghost Diva by Fenice Milano

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

There's good taste and then there's over-the-top opulence. Rolls-Royce manages to tread that fine line carefully, but Fenice Milano is here to take it over the top. Based on the Rolls-Royce Ghost, Fenice's Diva edition decks out the hood, grille, side sills, wing mirrors and more in 24-karat gold, repeating the treatment inside the cabin which is also "treated" to leather, Alcantara microsuede and teak veneer trim. All that, plus the reassurance that no one would ever accuse you of being possessed of such a gauche sense as good taste.

Rolls-Royce to Highlight Bespoke Design Program in Paris

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

Although Rolls-Royce won't have anything new per se to show us at the Paris Auto Salon this week, it will be highlighting its extensive "bespoke design" catalog with five customized models at the Port de Versailles.

Included in the line-up will be specialized versions of the Phantom Coupe, Drophead Coupe, two Ghosts and the long-wheelbase Phantom limousine you see above. It features a special gunmetal metallic paintjob and an interior decked out with custom embroidery, mother of pearl trim and piping on the seats.

Rolls-Royce White Ghost by Mansory

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

Over the past few years, Mansory hasn't exactly earned a reputation for subtlety, its creations as outlandish as Liberace in a house of mirrors. Its latest creation, by comparison, looks relatively tasteful.

Based on the Rolls-Royce Ghost, Mansory's White Ghost features a number of visual and performance enhancements, from the body kit and wheels to a 66-horsepower boost from the V12 engine for 629 overall. The interior is a bit gaudier than the standard Rolls, but downright tame by Mansory standards. Try not to like it too much, though: only three of this special edition will be made, each carrying a $152k premium... that's over the price of the factory-fresh Ghost itself.

Rolls-Royce Riding Ghost Wave to Massive Sales Increase

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

Rolls-Royce is reporting sales of 678 automobiles through the first five months of 2010. Although that might not sound like a lot of vehicles at first blush, it represents a 146-percent increase over the same period a year ago. Company head Torsten Müller-Ötvös expects sales to continue in their upward path throughout the remainder of the year, saying that the automaker will post figures "at least double the volume of last year."

While the slight uptick in the global economy may have something to do with the sales resurgence, the real driving force behind the increase is the new Ghost model for 2010. With a base price of around $250,000, the Ghost represents a substantial savings over the revered Phantom, which starts at some $380,000 and quickly rises from there. And while the Ghost may be less expensive than its big brother, there's no doubt that it is every bit the exclusive luxury ride that its new owners will expect.

If you want to be really good at something, the prime directive is always this: practice practice practice. That goes for running just as much as it goes for being really, really rich. Rolls-Royce is here to assist on the getting-ready front with an iPhone and iPod Touch app that lets you – the "potential customer" – kit out their newest ride, the Ghost, any way you wish.

A dozen paint finishes make up the exterior options, along with tweaks like visible exhaust tip, Silver Satin hood and various styles of wheels. Inside, eight different leathers and five veneers that include Dark Wenge and Malabar can be mixed and matched to please the eye and touch. If you want to see what others have done, the app also includes a gallery and videos of the Ghost in action and when you're finished, you can save your own Ghost in a virtual garage. Before you dig in, though, you might want to download that dictionary app so you can look up terms like "Dark Wenge." Available in the iTunes app store.

Red Dot Design Award Honors Luxury Automobiles

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

Every year an international jury of experts assembles for the annual Red Dot design awards. Considered one of the most prestigious prizes in product design, awards are handed out each year to designs that stand out above the rest.

This year's list of award winners includes more than 1000 recipients – far too many to list here – divided between honorable mentions, the basic Red Dot award and the Best of the Best category for those truly exceptional designs. Among this year's recipients are a host of luxury automobiles, but only three won the venerable Best of the Best: the Rolls-Royce Ghost, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG and the Peugeot RCZ. All three are luxury cars with very different design philosophies and body styles, but the good people at Red Dot evidently felt they each deserved special recognition.

Mansory Rolls-Royce Ghost

The new Rolls-Royce Ghost is a pretty impressive vehicle but over-the-top exotic auto tuner Mansory apparently felt it could benefit from a whole bunch of gold. Debuting at the Geneva Motor Show, the ritzy Rolls is designed to combine "the most precious materials with elaborate performance, individual appearance and stylish interior refinements." The car is first painted deep blue and then gold varnish is applied to the cross-beam in the new front skirt, the vertical gill between the headlights, various bits of trim and the modified radiator grill, capped by gold wheels. New stainless steel sheeting, a rear spoiler and rear skirt and a double sport exhaust system sum up the rest. Power has been boosted from the stock 570 hp all the way up to 720 hp, with torque tweaked to 1,020 Nm up from 780 Nm. That means it's only 0.5 seconds quicker to 62 mph, but the top speed now clocks in at 192 mph. Inside there's diamond quilted leather and an odd mix of carbon fiber and bamboo wood accents illuminated by a galaxy of LEDs.

Rolls-Royce to Present new Coupe, Convertible and Limousine Based on the Ghost

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

If the introduction of the new Ghost saloon (pictured above) got you excited for the prospect of a slightly more affordable Rolls-Royce, we've got even better news for you. Reports indicate that the ultra-luxury brand is planning several derivatives from the Ghost family.

Among the expansion, we can expect a coupe, a convertible and even a long-wheelbase limousine version. Rolls is expected to unveil each in concept form over the course of the next few years before introducing the production versions, which could very well revive old nameplates like the Corniche convertible, so stay tuned.

Porsche, Rolls-Royce, Jaguar, BMW and Infiniti Modifications from Wald International

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

One at a time, fellas. That's how most aftermarket tuners approach their projects. But not Wald International. The Japanese tuning house is launching a new line of modifications for some of the most eminently desirable luxury sedans and "four door coupes" on the market, all at once.

Included in the line-up are none other than the Porsche Panamera, Jaguar XJ, BMW 7 Series, Infiniti M and the Rolls-Royce Ghost, just for good measure. Little in the way of details have been announced, but from the images you can see in the gallery below, it appears Wald has fitted each with new front bumpers, side skirts, spoilers and wheels mounted to lowered suspensions.

Rolls Royce Ghost "Numero Uno" by Deutsche Manufaktur for $670,000

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

Just because it's being touted as the "baby" Rolls-Royce doesn't mean the new Ghost EX200 won't attract the attention of exotic auto tuners looking to kick it up a notch. Germany's Deutsche Manufaktur has already listed their tweaked version for sale via global online luxury marketplace JamesList for $670,000. Dubbed the "Numero Uno", the styling package "merges aggression and luxury using the precision quality of Deutsche's technology". A widened front makes the Ghost look more "bullish and strong," while the extended grill "sends signals of pride" and the "angry eyes express style". The windows feature intelligent glass that dims at the touch of a button. Inside you can choose from various finishes of wood, carbon fiber or Alcantara in addition to hand-stitched leather for the upholstery in various colour combinations, as well as a custom steering wheel and a three-part set of aluminum pedals and brake handle.

2009 Frankfurt Auto Show: Rolls-Royce Ghost

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

If you want to be driven around in a Rolls-Royce, the Phantom is the car for you. But if you want a Rolls-Royce saloon in which to drive yourself around, you'll want the Ghost. Closely mirroring the 200EX concept car which the most prestigious of motor marques unveiled at the Geneva show this past March, the new Ghost is smaller, more nimble and more powerful than the big limousine under which it slots in the company's range, to say nothing of the two-door Phantom Coupe and convertible Phantom Drophead Coupe variations.

Compared to the Phantom sedan, the Ghost is nearly a foot and a half shorter but offers over a hundred more horsepower than its bigger brother. But don't let its size fool you: the Ghost is all Rolls, and packs all the finest touches you'd expect from Goodwood's finest. It even has the rear-hinged rear doors with the hidden umbrella compartment, opening up on a luxurious cabin of soft leather, thick carpets and lacquered wood veneers. It's the Rolls-Royce for the next decade, and we got a closer look at the Frankfurt Auto Show where the new Rolls was unveiled for the first time in production spec. See for yourself in the gallery below.

Visualize Your Wheels on Rolls-Royce's 200EX Website

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

If you've been getting anxious for Rolls-Royce to get its highly anticipated upcoming "junior" model on the market already, here's something to keep you occupied in the meantime. Rolls unveiled the 200EX concept to forecast the upcoming Ghost model at the Geneva auto show this past March, but while the production model isn't anticipated to debut until the Frankfurt show this coming September, the company has already launched an online configurator on its website to let prospective customers and curious enthusiasts alike play around with the various color and trim options likely to appear on the production version. Called the "visualizer", the website allows you to select from a palette of exterior paint colors, interior leather trims, dashboard wood veneers and even the brushed aluminum front bonnet trim. Not quite as exciting as pulling up at the hottest new club or restaurant in a Rolls-Royce of your own, but it will help you imagine it.
