Rinspeed BamBoo by James Rizzi

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

Of all the automakers that display on an annual basis at the Geneva Motor Show, surely Rinspeed is the most innovative. The Swiss firm makes a tradition out of designing off-beat concept cars, and this year's will be no exception.

Called the BamBoo, the vehicle is envisioned as a mode of transportation for resort destinations and vacation homes. It offers little in the way of protection from the elements, leaving the cabin open to the warm air it's intended to drive through.

Now Rinspeed has taken its uniqueness one step further by announcing a collaboration with pop artist James Rizzi, who will apply his trademark cheerful and colorful design to the BamBoo's inflatable roof. Along with it, the BamBoo will feature one of Rizzi's bird icons on the upper roof pillar that will change color to reflect the occupants' mood.

Swiss coachbuilder Rinspeed never ceases to amaze with its far-out concept cars, so our interest was naturally piqued when we heard that the quirky company was launching a new series of limited-edition print artwork using its own vehicles, such as the E2 Fiat 500, iChange, sQuba and eXasis concepts, as subject matter.

Prints from Rinspeed's Official Fine Graphic Art Collection are now available for order from Rinspeedart.com on the buyer's choice of canvas, art paper or plexiglass, making them perfect for automotive gearheads looking to decorate their favorite hangout or workstation. There's also a series of five Futuristm prints that are limited to runs of 20 pieces each.

Just like the coachbuilder's own concepts cars, each print will be crafted in Sweden. Each will be available in multiple sizes and, therefore, prices, starting at 115 Euros ($160) for artwork printed on paper, though that amount rises rapidly as the size increases and the medium changes to plexiglass. See the official press release after the break and be sure to check out some of the unique pieces in our gallery below.

Rinspeed sQuba Underwater Concept Car

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

This seemed like a joke at first, but truly Rinspeed, a Swiss company known for their innovative and out-of-the-box designs, has created a car that goes from land to sea in seconds. An all-electric car with one motor for land and two to propel it underwater, this beauty will put the sea in your grasp while riding in style. A salt-resistant interior, on-board breathing apparatus which acts much like scuba gear, open cockpit for safety and viewing pleasure, as well as a laser sensor system for driverless motoring, Rinspeed seems to have thought of it all! Take the sQuba for a spin ... and then a dip. If you are as surprised as I was that this really exists and works underwater check out the gallery below -- you won't believe your eyes.

Rinspeed zaZen

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

The Rinspeed tuners do all kinds of sexy things for Porsches. This year's prototype for the Geneva Motor Show is the zaZen. According to Inside Line, it's got a Porsche framework but the roof is one giant piece of Makrolon polycarbonate and it has a surface coating made from millions of tiny Swarovski crystals. Other details include a third halogenic brake lamp, transparent plastic seat shells, and a handmade leather-fabric interior. It looks like something Karim Rashid or Philippe Starck would create.
