Moshiko Sculptural Rings

All jewelry designs are works of art, but these Sculptural Rings from Moshiko take it to the extreme. Made of various crazy combinations of sterling silver and colorful resin, the inspirations for the designs range from ancient African art to mathematics to futuristic themes. Each ring is unique, signed by the artist, and only available in whatever size it was already made in (the sizes vary, see the site for specifics).

I think these rings are absolutely beautiful to look at but I'm not sure they're realistic (or comfortable) to actually wear. $200-$500

Periodic Rings

How many elements could you recognize in the Periodic Table? If you're into science here's a a fun way to refresh your memory (or the memories of those around you) on at least 3 of them. Fashioned for people who prefer silver, gold, and platinum, each of the 3 Periodic Rings are made up of one of those three metals and stamped with the appropriate elemental symbol and information. Get just one or collect all three, either way they're sure to spark some interesting conversation! Ag/$205, Au/$2200, Pt/$6500.

Iosselliani Panther Ring

Iosselliani jewelry is the creation of designer Paolo Giacomelli out of Rome. The panther ring is one of the most popular pieces from Iosselliani and features the sterling silver wild cat beneath sparkling black crystals with two deep purple crystals denoting the eyes. Available at only the most stylish stores in the world, Iosselliani jewelry is a favorite in the fashion industry, pieces from the line can often be seen in magazines being used in fashion shoots. The panther ring is available on Barneys.com and retails for $265.

Suzanne Felsen Sea Urchin Ring

For the holiday season in 2007, jeweler Suzanne Felsen created sea urchin cufflinks made of recycled gold for Barney's. Sales of the cufflinks, which cost $895 also benefit the World Wildlife Fund. Felsen has gotten bitten by the urchin bug creating other one-of-a-kind sea urchin pieces. The ring shown here features a faceted pink tourmaline set in an 18K gold sea urchin style setting. It costs $6,900.

Jill Albert Vintage Ribbon Ring

If you are a clothing and accessory addict, them most likely when you were a little kid, you loved to play dress up in your mom's closet. Personally, I distinctly remember a pair of my mother's brown slouchy leather boots and oversized sunglasses that I loved. Oh, how I wish I still had them today. Jill Albert's Ribbon Ring featured here, is so reminiscent of those times - when you played dress up and searched for something that wasn't necessarily beautiful or ugly, but was eye catching and would make a powerful statement for your outfit. Albert's Ribbon Ring is made of gold with tiny turquoise stones scattered throughout. This vintage ring is one that you would certainly find in your mom's closet, or perhaps in your grandmother's closet, and keep until you were of age to carry it off properly with style and sophistication. Price $340.

Piaget Magic Hour Watch and Ring

Nope that's not three watches you see above, it's three in one. The Piaget Limelight Magic Hour watch uses a mechanism developed in the Piaget workshops to create three different looks. It can be worn horizontally, at a rakish angle or straight up where it reveals diamond-set golden numerals. The model has an integrated case and bracelet, no lugs, and 36 diamonds around the bezel. It is also available on a black satin strap with a white gold case (the other is pink gold on a white satin strap). The watch has a Piaget 56P quartz movement and a retail price of 16,800 euros.

There is also a Limelight Magic Hour ring that pivots in the same three directions. This one is a white opal mounted in 18K white gold and surrounded by diamonds.

Blu Large Euphoria Ring

Magnificent and breathtaking doesn't even begin to capture the beauty that is this ring. The wow factor on the Blu Euphoria Ring is super high. The large blue topaz is strategically surrounded by diamonds without engulfing nor taking away the glistening and soothing aura of this ring. Because it is such a statement ring, some may be hesitant to pair it with other jewelry pieces that are just as expressive, but it seems that you could do no wrong with this one. Wear with other bold accessories or go the understated route, just be sure that you show off this ring as much as possible. Price: $9,225.

Scandezign Jewelry Tree

I'm horrible about taking care of my jewelry when it comes to storage -- I have a tangled mess of bracelets, necklaces, rings, and earrings in about 4 different jewelry boxes. But I think that would be a different story if I had one of these Jewelry Trees from Scandezign (or I might need a small forest of them). Exceptionally fluid and simple, its classic and modern feel both holds your jewels safely and shows them off beautifully. Designed by Louise Christ it's made of brushed aluminum and stands 10.1" high and 5.3" wide. $54

Fibula Jewelry

Fibula Jewelry has great taste in store locations. They have stores in both Santa Barbara and Deer Isle, Maine. The jewelry shows great taste too, classic and luxurious pieces that remain distinctive. Take for example their "Girl with a Pearl Earring." The simple pearl earring gets updated with ornate curves of 18K gold that perfectly suit the charming lumpy baroque white pearls. They sells for $1,750.

Kissing Diamonds

Here's one for the romantics. Instead of having two diamonds side by side, the Kissing Diamonds ring sets them end to end (or, more properly, culet to culet) so that the shape of the diamonds from kissing lips. The design is available in a wide variety of styles with a solitaire or three-stone designs in a yellow or white 18K gold settings. The potential for scratching here seems pretty high but My first concern here is that the diamonds would chip but the stones seem to be carefully chosen and matched to avoid potential calamity.

DVF Power Ring

If you love big diamond rings but solitaires aren't your thing, then this Diane VonFurstenberg Power Ring by H. Stern is a good alternative. From the Power Ring Collection, the DVF Power Ring features 18 karat white gold in a interlacing pattern with Pavé diamonds filling every available space and totaling 4.6 carats total weight. Some think it looks like a constellation, and I think it looks more like diamonds within a diamond, but however it strikes you it's sure to make a bold statement. Have yours for $19,000.

Jules Smith Now and Zen Ring

Gina Nigrelli is living my dream life. After a successful career in fashion and marketing, she relocated to the Virgin Islands in 2005 and together with her husband, Brian Smith, began a life of creative jewelery design. Inspired by the lush Caribbean surroundings, Jules Smith Designs employ precious metals and semi-precious gemstones, creating wearable art that is subtly extravagant. This is the Now and Zen ring, featuring an 18k yellow gold open band upon which rests a beautifully set aquamarine. $1151.

DeBeers Enters The World of E-Commerce

Last week we mentioned the expansion of Blue Nile's diamonds for sale online, now the diamond behemoth DeBeers is finally joining the internet jewelry business. WWD reports that DeBeers is launching e-commerce on their website. The company will let you spend up to $30,000 for a diamond engagement ring (1.5 carat center stone with two side stones) so far, with plans to let people spend more in the future. The website doesn't include everything that is available in their brick-and-mortar stores, focusing instead on products that are easier to buy without seeing in person such as diamond earrings or tennis bracelets. For pieces from the High Jewelry collection, such as the Grey and Orange Diamond Ring shown above (11.5 carats of white and fancy-colored diamonds set in platinum) you will still need to make an appointment to see the goods in person. For DeBeers, the good news is that unlike opening a brick-and-mortar store, no one shows up to protest when you open up online.

Tracy Dara Kamenstein, Fun With Gemstones

Tracy Dara Kamenstein is one hot jewelry designer to watch. Her designs are bold, exuberant items that aren't afraid to be bold. Some of her more outrageous designs include heavy rings that look like high school rings but feature glittering gems and enameled skulls in vivid candy colors. She also makes a $31,000 pair of sandals that have gold clasps and are dripping with jewels. Gemstone shoes aren't my thing but I love her colorful earrings jampacked with stones and her inventive ring designs. Those in search of a heart-themed gift may want to consider her gold band ring with heart-shaped rubies for $6500 or this ruby and diamond sweetheart ring.

Love Letter Rings

There are no precious metals or gems to be found in these rings, but they carry a significant message that could be considered to be more valuable. The handmade rings are works of art, each made of thin layers of cloudy white plastic with black text on the layers, peeking through to the wearer and revealing a love letter. The two pictured say "I want to be your wife always" and "I've loved you since the moment I met you," but custom orders are available if you would prefer to have your own message embedded on a ring for a loved one. Price: $300.
