Will The Next Big Idea From De Beers Drive Shoppers To Stores?

everlon knotDe Beers is famous for their ad campaigns around specific jewelry designs like the three-stone ring and the journey pendant. The latest "big idea" is the Everlon Diamond Knot. The knot jewelry includes earrings, rings and pendants with a Hercules knot, with two metal intersecting loops held together by a diamond.

The ad campaign will tout the idea that the only thing stronger than a diamond is love itself. Television ads are set to begin on November 16 and there will be print ads and a web campaign. Various retailers including Sam's Club, Zale, Macy's, J.C. Penney, Ben Bridge and tohers have signed up to be part of the program and sell the jewelry. The pieces are now available on the J.R. Dunn website where the ring shown at right, a 14K yellow gold ring with a .5 carat center stone (color grade-- H-I, clarity--I1) sells for $1.820.

De Beers is bullish on the concept. They say that in a survey of American consumers, 61 percent of females and 58 percent of males expressed interest in acquiring an Everlon piece. I'm ambivalent about the potential popularity of the design so I decided to conduct my own survey. Vote below on what you think of the concept or let me know in the comments.

Nubeo Organika Ring Collection

Founder of watch brand Nubeo is as much watch maker as he is a jewelry designer. He has a special eye for quality stones, and imbues his special characteristic style into his loud and proud Organika rings. This jewelry is not for the faint of heart, and is a beautiful loud message with a unique style emulating what a sea flower would be if such a thing existed. You can see from the image that the ring is the width of a watch, but meant for your finger. The finger loop is set apart from the "head" so that it can be worn properly. The Organika rings feature a multi-piece construction making them complex in construction and design. The layered look also makes makes it possible to place so many precious stones on the white or rose gold metal construction. Each ring features a multitude of diamonds than either do or do not cover the finger loop.

The shown piece showcases a 13.5mm wide 13 carat aquamarine jewel, and an array of pink sapphires on the "leaves" along with the diamonds. There are also the six spherical cloudy Aquamarine orbs that are pressure set into the ring making for a look you've likely never thought possible. Aside from aquamarine, other Organika rings feature unique gens such as rubelite and morganite. Each is very pretty and only for the right woman. The rings have about 75 to almost 90 carats of precious stones each.

Sterling Silver Diamonds

sterling silver diamond ringThey don't look like diamonds and they certainly aren't diamonds, but these Sterling Silver Diamond rings could still have their place in your jewelry box. Designed to be worn alone or stacked in multiples, the design also comes in acrylic colored versions for a completely different fashion statement. I'm not sure if I would wear a ring like this or not (they look a little immature somehow) but then often it's more about how you wear it than anything else when it comes to pulling off something like this. $160 - $260

A bit of Hollywood goes on the block this week when jewelry that once belonged to Hollywood actress Deborah Kerr will go on sale in London. Kerr, who starred in movies such as "From Here To Eternity" and "The King and I" died in October of last year. One of the priciest items for sale at the auction at Bonham's London on December 4 is this triple-stone diamond engagement ring from her first husband, Squadron Leader Anthony Charles Bartley. It features three yellow-tinted, brilliant-cut diamonds which weigh 2.32, 2.98 and 2.17 carats respectively each within a four-claw setting on a tapered hoop of woven design. Bibigi Fashion Collection Rings

Bibigi has many unique jewelry designs but their Fashion Collection rings are my absolute favorite because I love gardening, flowers, and the outdoors. Featuring an obvious floral theme, the collection is bright with colorful leaves, petals, and the occasional dragonfly or butterfly. Featuring white gold and yellow gold with diamonds, black diamonds, and enamel accents, the collection has a definite whimsical vibe. One of my favorites is this Van Gogh ring, of which there are four designs including a coordinating necklace and earrings.

Moshiko Sculptural Rings

All jewelry designs are works of art, but these Sculptural Rings from Moshiko take it to the extreme. Made of various crazy combinations of sterling silver and colorful resin, the inspirations for the designs range from ancient African art to mathematics to futuristic themes. Each ring is unique, signed by the artist, and only available in whatever size it was already made in (the sizes vary, see the site for specifics).

I think these rings are absolutely beautiful to look at but I'm not sure they're realistic (or comfortable) to actually wear. $200-$500

Jill Albert Vintage Ribbon Ring

If you are a clothing and accessory addict, them most likely when you were a little kid, you loved to play dress up in your mom's closet. Personally, I distinctly remember a pair of my mother's brown slouchy leather boots and oversized sunglasses that I loved. Oh, how I wish I still had them today. Jill Albert's Ribbon Ring featured here, is so reminiscent of those times - when you played dress up and searched for something that wasn't necessarily beautiful or ugly, but was eye catching and would make a powerful statement for your outfit. Albert's Ribbon Ring is made of gold with tiny turquoise stones scattered throughout. This vintage ring is one that you would certainly find in your mom's closet, or perhaps in your grandmother's closet, and keep until you were of age to carry it off properly with style and sophistication. Price $340.

Piaget Magic Hour Watch and Ring

Nope that's not three watches you see above, it's three in one. The Piaget Limelight Magic Hour watch uses a mechanism developed in the Piaget workshops to create three different looks. It can be worn horizontally, at a rakish angle or straight up where it reveals diamond-set golden numerals. The model has an integrated case and bracelet, no lugs, and 36 diamonds around the bezel. It is also available on a black satin strap with a white gold case (the other is pink gold on a white satin strap). The watch has a Piaget 56P quartz movement and a retail price of 16,800 euros.

There is also a Limelight Magic Hour ring that pivots in the same three directions. This one is a white opal mounted in 18K white gold and surrounded by diamonds.

Blu Large Euphoria Ring

Magnificent and breathtaking doesn't even begin to capture the beauty that is this ring. The wow factor on the Blu Euphoria Ring is super high. The large blue topaz is strategically surrounded by diamonds without engulfing nor taking away the glistening and soothing aura of this ring. Because it is such a statement ring, some may be hesitant to pair it with other jewelry pieces that are just as expressive, but it seems that you could do no wrong with this one. Wear with other bold accessories or go the understated route, just be sure that you show off this ring as much as possible. Price: $9,225.

Scandezign Jewelry Tree

I'm horrible about taking care of my jewelry when it comes to storage -- I have a tangled mess of bracelets, necklaces, rings, and earrings in about 4 different jewelry boxes. But I think that would be a different story if I had one of these Jewelry Trees from Scandezign (or I might need a small forest of them). Exceptionally fluid and simple, its classic and modern feel both holds your jewels safely and shows them off beautifully. Designed by Louise Christ it's made of brushed aluminum and stands 10.1" high and 5.3" wide. $54
