The Billionaire's Cocktail

First off, it's not a cocktail that costs a billion dollars (although I'm sure there's one out there, somewhere...) but instead a cocktail designed for a billionaire. That would be an intimidating job I think, to create a drink especially for a specific, very rich, person. Calvin Ayre, billionaire founder of Bodog.com is that person, and The Liquid Muse is the creator of his signature drink, Billion-Ayre's Bet.

Based on his choice spirit Bombay Sapphire, the drink also includes grapefruit juice, Campari, lime, and champagne. See the complete recipe here, and think: what would your signature cocktail be?

Where the "Richest of the Rich" Go to Vacation

Filed under: Luxury Travel & Hotels

There are high-end resorts and playgrounds all over the world for those who are used to experiencing the best of the best on a daily basis -- and "billionaire" is the magic ticket in.

Where does Steven Spielberg go when he wants to get away and relax (and maybe pow-wow off-the-record with some of the other powerful people in the world)? The Hamptons of course, because it provides that luxuriously secluded feeling without any pesky long-distance travel. And Oprah Winfrey, who obviously doesn't mind serious plane time, prefers spending time in South Africa.

But, for the ultimate in privacy and escapism, some billionaires such as Richard Branson simply buy a private island all for themselves. Well, Richard actually has two islands...

Where the Execs Eat

BusinessWeek has an interesting look at where the business elite - executives at some of the country's most successful companies - go to eat. You might think that their favorite spots would be restaurants like Per Se, Alinea or any number of Vegas hotspots, and while they do eat (and enjoy) some meals there, it turns out that they like just about any place that has good food and a friendly atmosphere. For some, it's a neighborhood diner or an unpretentious steakhouse, while others do prefer more upscale eats, but the staff always plays just a big a role as the food. So, you don't have to be an executive to eat like one - and chances are good you've already had a $3 diner breakfast - you just have to recognize and appreciate some of the finer things in life, wherever they are.

World's Richest Soccer Players

BusinessWeek has compiled a list of the world's richest soccer players, all of whom are playing in the 2006 FIFA World Cup this year. This also helps us see that, though the US may not pay its players as much as the players of other professional sports, soccer is indeed one of the most popular - and best rewarded - sports in the world. Here are the top five highest paid players and their annual incomes:

  • Ronaldinho, Brazil - $29.2 million (pictured)
  • David Beckham, England - $22.9 million
  • Ronaldo, Brazil - $22.1 million
  • Wayne Rooney, England - $20.4 million
  • Zinédine Zadine, France - $19.1 million

Luxury Home Must-Haves

When shopping for a million dollar home, buyers are looking for luxury and luxury perks can tip the scales on the sale, but they are not actually what set the baseline for buyers. According to a new survey of people who currently live in luxury homes - classified as over $1 million ($2 million in California) for survey purposes - nearly two thirds have designer kitchens, entertainment rooms, and wet bars. More than 30% have wine cellars and 24% have theater seating. Outdoors, almost 40% of the homes have in-ground pools. Security systems were in place in 87% of homes and 67% had landscapers come in to care for the grounds.

The most popular way to furnish a luxury home? Nordstrom topped the most-shopped-at list, but other frequented stores were Neiman Marcus, Saks, Macy's, Lord & Taylor, Talbots and Pottery Barn.

Ultra-luxury items, like heated floors, tennis courts and backyard putting greens were found in significantly fewer homes, since the homeowners were likely (35%) to own a second home for recreational purposes.
