Jaeger-LeCoultre Launches Online Service To Personalize Reverso Watches

A few years ago this would have never been something a high-end conservative watch brand like Jaeger-LeCoultre would have dreamed of doing. Traditionally, services like watch customization and personalization were to be done in a chic boutique with an authorized dealer over a glass of champagne and cookies. Now that model has changed and brands realize that people want to shop at home online.

The iconic Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso has a case that flips around to reveal a solid caseback - offering a perfect palette for personalization. The new Reverso customization website allows customers to pick a watch and create any number of custom engravings and art on the back of a Reverso watch. This includes a large number of pre-selected options, as well as truly customizable engravings and enamel work. Options include having initials, a special message, coat of arms, imagery, or anything else that fits on the space. You can even have precious stones set in the back of the watch case.

The website uses a Flash based application for navigation and is rather straight forward. Really a fun thing to play around with and choose your ideal personalized Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso watch.

Jaeger-LeCoultre Grande Reverso Ultra Thin Tribute To 1931 Watch

It was only a matter of time before Jaeger-LeCoultre did a "heritage" version of their already "in the past" Reverso watch. A timeless classic, the Reverso has come in dozens of versions, becoming one of the brand's most signature timepieces. As the name of this new "Tribute" watch suggests, the original Reverso watch was released in 1931. The idea behind it was to be a timepiece that could be worn while playing polo - but that would also be less susceptible to damage given that watch crystals were made of glass back then.

The design gave the rectangular case the ability to flip over while wearing the watch. When turned over, the original Reverso had an all metal surface where the watch face would be. This space was also popular for custom engravings and personalized messages. At least one professional polo player told me that you would not want to wear a watch during a serious polo match. I think that is obvious to most people, but the Reverso really hasn't been about that in decades.

Jon Hamm Wears Jeager-LeCoultre Reverso Grande 986 Watch

Jon Hamm, best known for his role in "Mad Men," is now working with Swiss luxury wrist watch brand Jaeger-LeCoultre. Hamm recently hosted a large watch event in New York City to help spread the word of Jaeger-LeCoultre's higher-end pieces including its massively complex Hybris Mechanica set (which I wrote about here). For the event, Hamm was wearing a Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Grande 986 watch. Looks good on him. The art deco inspired style isn't quite the 1960s mod look we are used to with him - but Hamm doesn't exactly "live" in the show. Looking good Hamm.

Jaeger-LeCoultre: Complex and Creative

A perennially favored brand among the watch loving elite, Jaeger-LeCoultre, which is nominated for a Luxist Award, has one of the most industrious movement making arms of any haute horology watch maker. They currently hold the record for making the most complex wrist watch in the world, the $2.5 million Hybris Mechanic Grande Sonnerie, and also have a brand history that is deeply bedded with tradition.

Complex watches are a favored news item for the brand as their talented engineers toil ceaselessly at the next most visually and intellectually stimulating luxury creation. In addition to the most complex watches, Jaeger-LeCoultre is known for making the smallest mechanical watch movements as well as producing the famous Atmos clock, with a unique almost perpetual movement that is powered by tiny changes in air temperature. Still strong after over 175 years, the brand continues to inspire and surprise watch lovers by releasing creative new timepieces regularly.

Jaeger-LeCoultre has been fortunate enough to be adopted by both watch and fashion lovers. While many Jaeger-LeCoultre watches (such as the broad Master Compressor collection) are modern in style, the brand is best known for timeless icons such as the Reverso double-sided watch line. Such classics are often favored among the fashion and performance elite with Jaeger-LeCoultre being one of the hottest names (no one can quite pronounce) in the Hollywoods of the world.

Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso Squadra Lady Duetto Voted Best Ladies Watch Of 2009 In Germany

Shortly before Baselworld, I reported on how the German watch magazine Armbanduhren voted the A. Lange & Sohne Cabaret Tourbillon as the best watch of the year. As part of that same contest, other categories of "best watch" included the "best women's watch of 2009." That prize went to Jaeger LeCoultre for its new Reverso Squadra Lady Duetto watch. The Squadra line of watches is for men and women, with the timepieces for both genders being elegant and sporty - as well as true to the Reverso watch line tradition.

The watch is really two-in-one as the case flips around to reveal two watch faces. Both tell the time, but are decorated differently, and one side has a date complication, while the other side has a day/night indicator complication. Two versions of the watch are available in stainless steel or 18k rose gold. Both versions feature guilloche engraving on the dials and strong baton hands. Two different diamond settings are available; 36 diamonds on the steel version and 75 on the rose gold version. The inset diamond cabochon in the crown is a nice touch as well. The strap seen in the images is an articulated rubber strap that should be interesting to wear. An alligator strap, or metal bracelet are also available.

As seems to be the case with recent "best watch" awards - utility and beauty are equally valued when such decisions are made. A clear message to watch makers that people are interested in having a fully functional and comfortable watch when deciding on a luxury timepiece investment.

Slumdog Millionaire Co-Star Dev Patel Wears Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso Squadra Watch To Golden Globes

Filed under: Timepieces / Watches, Celebrity Shopping, Men's Style

Wearing what is certainly no slum watch, Sunday January 11th's Golden Globes award show saw actor Dev Patel wearing a high style Jaeger LeCoultre watch. The timepiece was the Reverso Squadra, a sportier rendition of the classic Reverso watch line. The pictured Squadra watch features a chronograph and GMT complication with a big date at the top. As is common on all Reverso watches, they have the ability to be flipped around. The opposite side revealing further complications or a protective metal caseback, as was the purpose of the original Reverso watches that protected the watch crystal from the high impact Polo games.

Patel was likely given the watch personally by Jaeger LeCoultre to wear at the show. Luxury product makers often gift such items to celebrities to be worn in public for publicity and marketing purposes. Patel made out pretty well being approach by Jeager LeCoultre. More established celebrities often have brands fighting for their limited "body real estate," and have been known to offer large sums of money in exchange for exclusive deals. Don't be surprised if Dev Patel is seen only wearing Jaeger LeCoultre watches at events for the next several years.
