Aguas de Ibiza Spa and Resort

In September, a new hotel concept will open in the Balearic Islands, the cluster of islands off the coast of Spain that includes Ibiza and Mallorca. The Aguas de Ibiza Spa & Resort will be a waterside hotel located by Ibiza's Santa Eulalia Bay marina. The glamourous new hotel was built by local architect Juan de los Ríos, designed by Barcelona-based Triade Studio and run by the Torres family. It will offer 112 rooms and suites. Deluxe rooms and suites will have private terraces and large glass windows. The fourth floor is home to the Cloud 9 club, a hotel within the hotel that will have its own check-in desk, design scheme, services and amenities. Cloud 9 will offer loft rooms including the Presidential Ibiza Loft which is a two-story luxury suite. All rooms have Bang & Olufsen televisions.

Aguas de Ibiza is designed to be "eco-luxurious" combining eco-friendly materials with techniques to reduce energy usage by more than 35 percent in comparison to luxury properties.

The resort also has a gym, climatized pools with mineral salts, three outdoor pools including a rooftop pool, beauty salon, boutique and a business center. The Revival Wellness Club will offer everything from treatments with Ibiza salts to aromatherapy with seagrass and almonds. The resort will also include the Scuba cocktail bar and Air Ibiza, a rooftop par with a red-tiled pool. There will be three restaurants serving tapas at the Alabastro Lounge, Mediterranean specialities at the Oligo: Madeinterranean and modern interpretations of traditional Ibizan dishes at the gourmet restaurant La Sal.

Trump Fights For His Scottish Dream

Donald Trump is still fighting for his dream of having a golf resort in Scotland. Today he was in Aberdeen fighting for the right to build his $2 billion golf course complex. The development is planned for a 1,400 acre site in the dunes dunes on the Menie Estate at Balmedie. Environmentalists says the resort will destroy an area of natural importance but local businesses are looking forward to increased tourism dollars. His plans were narrowly rejected by the Aberdeenshire Council late last year. Trump has since been spotted real estate shopping in Ireland but it looks like he's not ready to let his Scottish dream die quite yet.

Trump spoke passionately about the site and his scheme to create two championship golf courses, a luxury hotel with 450 bedrooms, and approximately 1,000 timeshare condominiums and 500 luxury homes. He touted his matrilineal connection to the land (his mother is Scottish) and said that the development would create the "world's greatest golf course." The AP reports that the discussion got heated. David Tildsley, representing the Scottish Wildlife Trust, said that Trump had ignored the advice of his own consultants on the environment. Trump replied that he knows more than his consultants and said he considers himself "an environmentalist in the true sense of the word."

A decision is expected sometime in July.

L'Auberge Del Mar Opens

Last week L'Auberge Del Mar re-opened in Del Mar, California with a new design that's more like a high end private estate than a typical luxury resort. The renovation cost about $25 million dollars, or $200,000 per room, and the result is a combination of both upgraded appearance and upgraded services and amenities. There's too much detail to talk about it all here but some of the new features that caught my attention are the Waterfall Terrace (which includes a 14-foot illuminated waterfall) and the 4500 sq ft luxury spa. The rooms all have walk-in showers, marble-topped vanities, the best in technologically advanced amenities (i.e. 42" plasma TVs and iPod docking clock radios), and many have fireplaces. Where do I sign up?

The Cool Pool At The Joule

In the hot summer months, hotels with rooftop pools have a special allure. One of the most striking is located at the top of The Joule in Dallas. The Joule is part of the Luxury Collection and is located near attractions such as Victory Park, the Dallas Museum of Art and the original flagship Neiman Marcus. The building's 1920s Neo-Gothic façade has been restored and added to with a new 10-story tower which is topped by the cantilevered rooftop pool and bar area. The pool actually juts out over the edge off the building with just a heavy layer of glass separating water and the swimmers from the city below (check out an amazing shot by The Urban Fabric on Flickr here). Simply amazing.

The hotel also includes Charlie Palmer's new signature restaurant - Charlie Palmer at The Joule and Next Vintage, a retail wine store. Palmer's restaurant will also offer light-fare menu at the rooftop pool bar. Rates for the hotel start around $250 per night.

Vietnam's Plans For A $4.2 Billion Resort

Vietnam wants your tourism dollars and is going after them with a bit of Vegas-style. Las Vegas architectural firm, Steelman Partners is behind the plans for the $4.2 billion Ho Tram Strip, which will be Vietnam's largest single tourism venture. The resort will be built on the white sand beaches of Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province, in southern Vietnam. Phase 1 of the project calls for a five-star hotel resort with 1,100 rooms, a championship golf course designed by Greg Norman, and Vietnam's first Las Vegas-style casino. The second phase will include an additional resort, another casino and more restaurants and nightclubs. When the Ho Tram Strip is complete there will be five resorts and a conference center. The first phase is scheduled to open in late 2010 and the entire complex is scheduled to be completed in under 10 years.

Limoncito Resort

Limoncito sounds like a refreshing drink but it's actually a luxury 58-room condo-hotel planned for Punta Leona, Costa Rica. We've mentioned the area of Punta Leona before (check out the gallery below); it's located 90 minutes from San Jose and is an established, gated community of Punta Leona that has served as a private beach club. The resort community has three Bandera Azul (Blue Flag-rated) beaches, one of which boasts the only Four-Star designation in the country. Limoncito will be located above Limoncito Beach and will include six buildings set into the hillside with access to the beach cove via secluded trails. On these trails, jungle "ranchos" will placed along viewpoints on the trail for meditation, morning coffee and yoga. Amenities will include multiple swimming pools, a natural waterfall , Jacuzzis, hammocks, and outdoor decks and terraces. The one and two-bedroom suites will be priced from $250,000 – 850,000.

The cabins have existed in this location for over 70 years. Each one has its own distinct character and furnishings, some are right on the water while others have a water or creek view. The rental cabins represent a part of California's traveling past. The cabin shown here, Big Rock, has a wood-burning stove, a separate master suite and a copper soaking tub. Rates range from $495 to $595. Other cabins are less expensive.
