Ferris Bueller's Ferrari Up For Auction
Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

Last year my colleague Deirdre Woollard reported that the house featured in 1986's Ferris Bueller's Day Off had been put up for sale. Now the 1961 Ferrari 250GT Spyder California replica specially created for the film is being auctioned off at Bonhams' Collectors' Motor Cars and Automobilia sale on April 19 at the RAF Museum, Hendon, UK. Only around 100 250GT Spyder California's were built by Ferrari between 1958 and 1963. Existing examples are very rare and expensive so Paramount chose to commission and build a replica for filming purposes. The film follows Ferris, played by Matthew Broderick, and two of his friends skipping high school for a day and borrowing the classic Spyder California from one of their fathers. The movie grossed over $70 million in the U.S. and Broderick was nominated for a Golden Globe Award. Styled by Pininfarina, the classic lines of the car combine elegance and aggression, and it ranks alongside the Lusso as the ultimate expression of the Ferrari 250GT family. The Bueller Spyder is estimated at £30,000–£40,000.
