See by Chloe Backstage Crossbody, Handbag of the Day

See by Chloe Backstage CrossbodyThe See by Chloe Backstage Crossbody is an unusual bag with a ton of functionality and a great shape.

This attractive little bag (10.75"W x 9.75"H x 3.5"D) is soft, buttery leather with snakeskin-embossed trim, a generous strap (21" drop) and a "look at me" logo in goldtone hardware. We love the "Backstage" name for it, as this is just the sort of thing we'd expect to see dangling from a runway model when she arrives for work or stuffed on the makeup table as she gets made up. The eye-catching color makes it easy to find post-show, too.

The drawstring closures are enhanced by a hidden magnetic snap, so even though it's a crossbody, you don't have to worry about pickpockets. Just worry about someone stealing the whole bag -- because it's gorgeous.

The See by Chloe Backstage Crossbody is available from Bloomingdale's for $470.00.

Tessuto Bow Satchel, Handbag of the Day

Prada jumps on the red fall trend bandwagon with this classically-shaped Tessuto Bow Satchel. Simple, feminine, and elegant, this handbag comes with both braided top handles and a detachable leather shoulder strap. The body is made of ruched red (or black) nylon with goldtone hardware, a pretty little red bow, and signature jacquard detail. Zip-top closure and interior zip pocket. A perfect pop of color to accent a LBD or even a business suit at the office, and it isn't so trendy it can't be used year after year if you love it that much. $695

Idylle Ruffle Tote, Handbag of the Day

The Idylle Ruffle Tote was designed for those who feel the urge to carry what looks like a big pair of ruby red lips on their shoulder. Okay, so I can't say that for sure but it certainly looks that way from here. Bright, vibrant red is a trend this fall and here it is in smooth patent leather with ruffles aplenty, tonal topstitching, and side pockets with tassels. Also available in black for if you're feeling a little less than brave this season. $1,245

Valentino Petale Tote, Handbag of the Day

Valentino Petale ToteThe Valentino Petale Tote is yet another patent masterpiece featuring one of this season's biggest trends: a luscious leather rose.

This Italian leather tote is a good size -- 14"H x 14"W x 4"D. Beware, though, that means it's a lot of red and a very large flower. This purse is definitely only for the truly bold. This much red and a flower that big could easily go awry with the wrong outfit -- if you're unsure of what to pair it with, play it safe and purchase the bag in black or taupe.

We'd love to see this bag with white, black, or gray, but beware the blues, as you might start to look a little aggressively patriotic. It is a bag for the opera, a gala, brunch, or maybe a day at the museum, and will turn heads wherever it goes. Not for the shy wallflowers among us!

The Valentino Petale Tote is available from Neiman Marcus for $1,695.00.

Salvatore Ferragamo Lacon Nappa Clutch, Handbag of the Day

Salvatore Ferragamo Lacon Nappa ClutchThe Salvatore Ferragamo Lacon Nappa Clutch is a little slice of Italian heaven, just like tiramisu and Alyssa Milano.

This simple bag features artfully gathered, buttery burgundy nappa leather, and three leather rosettes (a big trend this season) for a monochromatic, demure look.

We love the envelope style and charming wristlet -- as if you'd ever get tired of holding this chic creation. We'd wear this with everything from jeans to a ball gown, and it's slim enough to toss into a larger purse if you don't have time to do the full switch the morning after.

The Salvatore Ferragamo Lacon Nappa Clutch is available from Neiman Marcus for $1,290.00.

Valentino Vertigo Satchel, Handbag of the Day

Valentino Vertigo SatchelThe Valentino Vertigo Satchel is an excellent, demure purse with a lot of character.

This red nappa leather bag is artfully pleated and folded into a basic shape -- with the effect of looking anything but basic. This is one of those bags you can carry with absolutely anything, and it's okay if you do, because nappa leather looks better with a little wear.

We love the dainty goldtone hardware, the double zipper top, and the generous size (11"H X 13 1/2"W X 6 1/2"D). It's rare to find a purse this large with this level of detail that doesn't look overdone. We have a feeling this new Valentino will be selling out quickly.

The Valentino Vertigo Satchel is available from Neiman Marcus for $1,995.00.

L.A.M.B. Hawke Ceylon Satchel, Handbag of the Day

L.A.M.B. Hawke Ceylon SatchelNew from the impossibly versatile Gwen Stefani, the L.A.M.B. Hawke Ceylon Satchel is bright and bold with an unusual color pairing: beigey-gold and fire engine red.

L.A.M.B. is actually becoming known for odd-and-off-color choices, as well as expertly made, sturdy bags with great lines. We love the sporty double stripe down the middle, and the way the piping on the sides curves like the heel of a tennis shoe. It's rare to see a bag this bold that would dress down so perfectly.

To dress this bag up, we recommend removing the shoulder strap (it looks better without it anyway) and pairing this with an outfit that incorporates neither color -- preferably white or a neutral shade (it would look a little Hot Topic with black). Got patent red shoes? This is the bag with which to wear them, and don't skimp on the red lipstick, either.

The L.A.M.B. Hawke Ceylon Satchel is available from Neiman Marcus for $495.00.

Argument Chair

Next time you order up a big fight on Pay-Per-View wouldn't it be nice to keep with the theme and sit back to watch it in a chair made of boxing gloves? My first reaction to the Argument Chair was to laugh, and my second reaction was "wow, that actually looks really comfortable." It would make a great conversation piece and bring a bright shot of color to the right room.

It's made of real leather Everlast boxing gloves on nickel plated hardened steel and is hand-crafted in limited edition. It features locking casters on the rear legs and adjustable front legs for stability on uneven surfaces. $5895

Gap Gets Inspi(Red)

We've mentioned (Red), a charitable effort designed to raise money for the Global Fund to support HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention in Africa, before when we took a look at an Armani watch that supported the cause. But there are a number of other companies and organizations involved and I popped into the Gap this week to take a look at what their (Red) collection. Everything actually looked very nice and it's hard to argue when 50% of the profits are going to such a worthwhile cause. My favorite item was the (PRODUCT)RED cashmere hoodie. Made of 100% cashmere, the slightly oversized hoodie was very plush and had a flattering cut, with contrasting topstiching and exposed seams. It comes in three colors, gray (pictured), cinnabar red (my favorite) and white. Price: $245.

Red Rimmed Bowls for Holiday Serving

Simple and elegant, these red rim serving bowls are a great choice for holiday entertaining because they don't go over-the-top with Christmas imagery, but have just enough color to still be seasonally appropriate. It is not, however, so dramatic that the bowls would look inappropriate at any other time of the year. They are not microwave safe, but as they are made of glass, the bowls could be used for cooking and prep work, as well as for serving. Sold in a set of three that includes small, medium and large bowls, the organic ellipse shapes look good even when the bowls are not in use. Price: $100.

Armani Inspi(Red) Watch

(Red) is a charitable effort that is designed to raise money for the Global Fund to support HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention, especially in underfunded and underprivileged areas of the world. Armani is one of the designers participating in the program and his newest addition to the Armani Red line is an Inspi(Red) Watch. The watch has a 43mm stainless steel case with a coin-raised bezel and a leather strap. The strap is available in either black with red contrast stitching or red with black (pictured). It is a unisex timepiece and has an extra-large numerical display for easy readability. It is available in all Armani stores and the retail price should be $225.

Fjord Armchair

The Fjord Armchair is Spanish designer Patricia Urquiola's take on Arne Jacobsen's egg chair with two primary differences. The first, and most obvious, is that the Fjord chair has an asymmetrical back, presumably inspired by the curving and asymmetrical cliffs that make up fjords, though the similarity is most apparent if the chair is viewed at an angle. The second difference is that this chair has no real armrests, while the original has curving, low-slung ones. The chair is upholstered in red wool with a subtle white contrast stitching over injection molded foam cushioning. Price: $3,300.

Tano Smooch Bag, Handbag of the Day

In a glossy, rich red color that suits its name, the Smooch Bag by Tano adds more than a little flair to any outfit. In fact, the funky handbag is a great alternative to the more plain-jane daily totes that so many women carry, though you might want to save it for weekend outings, rather than bring it in to the office. The large leather tote has a soft and slightly deconstructed look. It has a huge exterior pocket, accented with silver buttons, and diagonal seams that set it apart from more plainly designed bags. With a short drop from the comfortable strap, the tote tucks neatly under your arm and is easy to carry. Price: $218.

Rain Dot Umbrella

April showers bring... the need for a new umbrella. How can you worry about May flowers when your hair is getting wet? Umbrellas are a useful tool that we don't give much thought to until caught in a down-pour and I have never had good luck from the $10 variety peddled by street vendors, no matter that they promise it's a real (insert designer name here). This time, I'm planning in advance. I love this Brick Rain Dot Umbrella from the Seattle company Pare Umbrella. It is 3-feet in diameter when opened and has a gorgeous natural rattan hooked handle. Price: $56.

Bodum Lipstick Flask

Not all ladies have time to lunch. Some don't even have time to stop in for a latte while they're on the go from meeting to meeting or party to party. Bodum's Lipstick Flask really resembles a giant tube of fire-engine red lipstick, its streamlined, high-gloss exterior giving way to an interior full of what busy women need most: caffeine.

Ok. It doesn't have to be full of coffee. In fact, we think that it is very stylish all on its own. How many of your friends have a tube of lipstick this big, after all? The vacuum-sealed thermos will keep up to 34-ounces of whatever you fill it with perfectly secure - hot or cold - for hours. And, of course, it will look great doing it. Price: $29.99.
