Sneakbars - A Small Splurge

Horseshoe SneakbarsKickbars have been around for a few years now. Back in 2007, Deidre told us about them in "Kickbars, Diamonds for Your Shoes." Well, we weren't in a recession then.

What they are is diamond and jewel-encrusted clips for your shoelaces, basically like grills for your tennies. What they cost? $9,500 and up. That's why I'm telling you about Sneakbars.

In case you don't have that kind of cash lying around for shoe decor but think the idea is really cool, Sneakbars retail for just $49.00. They're made by the same company, and incorporate some of the same cool designs, but use rhinestones instead of diamonds to keep the price down.

And if you meet someone on the street who's like "those aren't real Kickbars, they're obviously just Sneakbars," you live in crazytown and there's nothing I can do to help you.

Secret Shopping? Online Consumerism Posts 12% Increase

Fashionista's theory is that amidst tough economic times, fashionistas recessionistas are turning to online shopping to get their fix semi-anonymously. WWD reported a 12% increase in online sales as compared to last year, and it makes sense considering gas prices and the general cutting back that's happening across socioeconomic lines. But I like Fashionista's rationale -- that shame is keeping shopaholics from venturing out to do any damage.

It's kind of the equivalent of ordering way too much Thai food when you're home alone on a Saturday night, but at least there's just the delivery guy to keep quiet.
