Cruise With Hunky Reality TV Cast-offs

Want to frolic on the high seas with a reality television star? No, they aren't bringing back Love Cruise but fans of The Bachelor and Bachelorette television shows can cruise with Jesse Csinsak and other "reality guys" to be named later on his third reunion cruise which sets sail on January 2011. Csinsak talked with Radar Online saying that the cruises always feature beautiful people, lots of liquor and great food (all the alcohol is included, so you can get just as obnoxious as if you were actually on one of the shows). The trip is a Royal Caribbean cruise to Belize leaving from Miami, Florida. Rates start at $1,299 for an interior stateroom. More details are available on JesseandFriends.com. Reality television stars seem to be a popular gimmick for booking cruises, the Food Network also has a cruise planned with some of its popular chefs including Cat Cora.

British Reality Show Focuses On The Darker Side of Luxury

Blood Sweat and Luxuries Reality TV
Blood, Sweat, and Tears is the name of a new reality show on the BBC where six rich British teenagers are sent off to the third world countries to see and experience the truth that lurks behind the production of their favorite luxury goods. Off they go to Madagascar to head into the sapphire mines, where they toil away a shovel-ful at a time in an enormous open mine/pit in the desert for £1/day in wages. And there's no whining your way out of it, either -- those that can't hack the blisters, burns, and backaches are sent down into the closed mine, to search for gems in the dark where oxygen has to be pumped in by hand via plastic bag. Yuck.

I haven't been able to watch an episode yet (if you live in the UK you can watch them online here) but I like it -- educational for the kids, viewers, and consumers alike. It could really be eye opening, what do you think?

Platinum Weddings

We talked once before about the TV show My Super Sweet 16, where parents spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on a teen's birthday party. The new show on the WE network makes those parties look like small potatoes, but at least it does so tastefully. Platinum Weddings is all about how fantastically wealthy couples celebrate the biggest day of their lives. With budgets of more than half a million dollars - compared to the national average of $28,000 - these couples leave no stone unpolished and no rose petal unscattered as they perfect their weddings.

Lana and Victor Fuchs star in this week's episode (which airs July 30th at 8pm EST) have a budget of $1.5 million for their Vegas ceremony.

Who Wants To Be A British Heir?

An English aristocrat, a country estate and the need for an heir, it sounds like the plot for either a romance novel, or, given the times we live in, a reality TV show. The New York Times profiles Sir Benjamin Slade, the owner of Maunsel House in Somerset England. Slade, who is 59 and childless has not found a relative willing to take responsibility for the estate which costs $140,000 per year to keep up not including incidental charges that arise. Slade is seeking an heir to produce children and make sure the estate continues to prosper. Maunsel House currently is rented out for weddings and parties.  He is hoping to find an American Slade with lots of enthusiasm for hard work so that the house doesn't have to be turned over to the British National Trust or sold. A television company wants to turn Slade's search into a reality TV show in which the potential heirs would live at the house and undergo challenges to determine the heir. You can see some interior pictures of Maunsel House at Sir Ben's website.
