Sheryl Crow's Tennessee Farm Fails To Sell At Auction

Filed under: Estates, Auctions, Celebrity Shopping

Sheryl Crow was tired of waiting around for her Tennessee farm to sell and so she took auction. Crow, who listed her home back in May for $7.5 million, agreed to have Cross Creek Farm put up for auction but the auction closed on Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010 without the reserve having been met.

This "solar farm" and equestrian property of approximately 150 acres includes a 10,264 square-foot home. The property also features a 14-stall barn, indoor riding area and large pond. The three-story home has five bedrooms, a theatre room, with added spaces wired for a music studio incorporating additional living space, and a private in-law apartment or nanny quarters, as well as a three-bedroom guest house. In recent years auctions have become a popular way to speed up the selling process but it's no guarantee. Could we see a new listing and a price cut soon?

Dennis Kozlowski's Former Home Sells At Auction

When I can I like to follow up with some of the results of the big real estate auctions we cover. Last month we mentioned a huge home in New Hampshire that would be auctioned off on November 9. Grand Estates Auction Co., was selling this home on 15 acres in North Hampton, New Hampshire. This property was once owned by infamous former Tyco International CEO Dennis Kozlowski. The current owner has been rebuilding the estate virtually from the foundation up for the last six years.

Seacoast Online reports
that the 10,000-square-foot mansion sold for $4.2 million. The 15-acre property was assessed at $9.4 million. The article says that both the buyer and the seller were happy with the price. The info on the new owners hasn't been disclosed. There were 16 registered bidders taking part in the auction.

The home has been redone on a grand scale since Kozlowski's residence. An artist spent two years hand-painting walls and murals throughout the home's more than 10,000 square feet. There is a 1,600-plus-square-foot master suite that fills the entire third floor and has views of the ocean and marsh, complete with octagonal meditation room, en suite kitchen and laundry room, sitting room, and massive master bathroom featuring a handmade Egyptian chandelier.

The huge home has indoor and outdoor pools, spa, steam and sauna, fitness center, tennis court and cabana, massage and game rooms, and a home-theater wing with 13 oversized chairs and a concession stand. A smart home system controls all electronics, including indoor and outdoor security cameras and a dozen flat-screen televisions, at home or remotely. Geothermal heating and cooling, a heat recovery system, underground storage tanks to collect rainfall, and backup generators keep the home going, come what may. There are nine fireplaces, an elevator to all levels, gourmet kitchen with 14-foot, bi-level island and three guest suites including one with a nursery.

Astor Courts Fails To Sell At Auction

In September we heard that the Astor Courts estate in Rhinebeck, New York, the property which hosted Chelsea Clinton's wedding, would be sold at auction. The was our estate of the day back in September 2009 and was listed for $12 million. Tranzon Asset Advisors, a national real estate auction firm, organized the auction in conjunction with H.H. Hill Realty Services of Rhinebeck, NY but the NY Post reports that the sealed-bid auction passed its October 14th deadline without yielding a buyer willing to pay above $7.5 million. The property is now back on the market with an $8.9 million list price.

The home was built at the turn of the century by John Jacob Astor, IV and his wife Ava. It was designed by Stanford White and was inspired by Louis XIV's Grand Trianon at Versailles, Astor Courts. The home was originally part of the Astor family's Ferncliff estate and Astor Courts (also known as the "Astor Casino" or "Ferncliff Casino") was designed as a guest lodge and sporting pavilion. The beautiful Beaux-Arts mansion was completed in 1904 and is on 50 acres. The expansive main living area has five bedrooms and spans over 15,000 square feet. The truly stunning details include the indoor clay tennis court topped with a glass ceiling and framed by Gothic arches and a white marble pool surrounded by arches and graced with a pale sky-blue ceiling.

In 1964 Brooke Astor gave the home to the Catholic Church. The current owners, real-estate developer Arthur Seelbinder and his wife, Kathleen Hammer, a former producer for Oxygen Media, bought the home in 2005 for $3.2 million and spent a fortune restoring it. Stanford White's great-grandson, Sam White led the restoration. The property is listed on the National Historic Register, and a Letter of Patent from New York State ensures access to the Hudson River in perpetuity and a Special Use Permit allows the property to be rented for corporate retreats, conferences and other functions.
