While the department store's annual holiday extravaganza is a bit more muted than it has been in previous years there are still plenty of glitzy treats. The Carlos Falchi tote from Neiman Marcus is python-embossed microfiber and measures 17"H x 17"W x 5"D. The handy tote has 10" shoulder handles and comes with a matching zip pouch for cosmetics and small items. The exclusive part is that Carlos agreed to hand sign each one. It comes in black, red or silver with a contrasting signature and sells for $220.

The bag has an easy elegance with its equestrian-style details atop its generous heap of python skin. We especially love the brassy-finished nickel hardware, making this bag appropriate with gold or silver jewelry.

This satchel would go just as well with jeans as an LBD (brown and black is okay this year), and at 9"H x 17 1/2"W x 4 1/2"D, it's large enough to take you from day to night with no trouble.

Look at the side buckles! We love this bag.

Carlos Falchi Oversized Python Clutch, Handbag of the Day

Here's a clutch that's a little different than what I normally pick out -- it's luxe and glamorous but in an edgier, more organic way. It's the Oversized Python Clutch by Carlos Falchi and it has a very tribal vibe with the multi-colored hands showing off their large rings of brightly colored jewel appliques. Thanks to its neutral color palette this bag will go with quite a few outfits, although it's a bold piece that probably shouldn't be paired with too many other patterns or you could end up looking way too 'busy.' $1,510

Zagliani Small Puffy Python Satchel, Handbag of the Day

The Small Puffy Python Satchel by Zagliani is perfect for those who want to carry some glitz and glam without necessarily loading up on jewels, sequins, or Swarovski crystals. It's a little bag, barely bigger than most clutches, but it has a cute puffy shape with a boxy top and a loop handle for easy carrying and tucking under your shoulder. Silver python leather, turn-lock closure, and a suede lining (my favorite!). A great, classy alternative if you find clutch bags a nuisance to hold onto. $1,865

A woman can never have too many pretty black clutches I think, since they can easily be used season after season and with whatever dress is stylish at the moment. This Python Crystal Box Clutch by Ted Rossi appeals to my strange affinity for oversized faux jewels with clear and black Swarovski accents on black python leather. It's a tiny bag (only 6" wide) and has a removable shoulder strap for when you are, and aren't, in the mood for a clutch. Suede lining and magnetic closure, $695.

Carlos Falchi Hand Painted Python HoboWe gasped when we saw this beautifully painted handbag by Carlos Falchi. A warning to the squeamish and/or Californians among you, though: It's python.

(And you can't get python in California.)

This white python skin bag is hand painted with bright, springy flowers in a sweeping, elegantly abstract design. On the Bergdorf Goodman website, you can zoom in to see the detail of how the brush strokes across the scales, giving the look of the of bag texture and dimension.

This gorgeous, decadent bag is 20"H x 20"W x 8"D, and includes a top zipper with a tassel toggle.

The Carlos Falchi Hand Painted Python Hobo is available from Bergdorf Goodman for $3,995.

Prada Pitone Tote, Handbag of the Day

Prada Pitone ToteThe Prada Pitone Tote is one seriously hot new handbag.

Posted on the Saks Fifth Avenue website:

"Due to popular demand, a customer may order no more than three units of this item every 30 days."

Good heavens! We also noticed that they are refusing to ship to California. And why is that? Python.

Pitone, for the uninitiated, means python in English, and it is unlawful to sell or ship python skin in California.

This python tote has a snakeskin side bow, leather lining, inside zip pocket and drawstring closure. Pretty fancy, but we'd imagine that the signature gold Prada logo is why it's selling quite so well.

The Prada Pitone Tote is available from Saks Fifth Avenue (unless you're in California) for $2,990.

Alexander McQueen Elvie Tote, Handbag of the Day

In all its envy-inspiring green python is Alexander McQueen's newest addition to the Elvie line, a framed tote with ladylike handles and gold hardware. Available exclusively at Net-a-Porter yet not to shoppers in California (where shipping python only makes for a fashionable six months in the county jail), the bag features a turn lock to secure its contents. It's lined in brown suede and has a small zippered pocket inside. The bag retails for $5,380.

If python isn't your thing (or endangered species are), you can find a black patent version over at Harvey Nic's.

VBH Oval Compact Clutch, Handbag of the Day

Despite it's deceiving simply shape, I think this VBH Oval Compact Clutch will still catch a lot of eyes because it's so unique. Its hard shell is described as being covered with "red gradiated python leather" but it looks like fuchsia to me (which isn't bad), and it also features silver metal hardware that includes some ornate trim along the top. The inside is lined with luxe suede and features a silver logo plaque. Certainly not a clutch that will go with very many dresses but certainly one that will make a statement when it does.

Bottega Veneta has been making exclusive high quality couture since the early 1960's. After merging with Gucci a few years ago I have noticed their designs appeal to a younger crowd and seem to be getting more stylish with each passing season. These new python sandals are perhaps their most popular shoe to date and are available exclusively to those willing to pre- order and join the waiting list. With a four inch heel, gold hardware and python straps these sandals aren't cheap, they retail for $1,170 and based on their popularity nobody seems to mind!

Take luxury to new heights with Be & D's Greta Clutch. Made of chinchilla and accented with an oversized black patent python buckle, this adds "ooh la la" to the most mundane and monochromatic outfits. Soft to the touch and beautifully constructed, the Greta Clutch is exquisite. I cannot speak to how well chinchilla holds up or how durable it is when held in someone's hand for possibly hours – especially if you have sweaty palms – but nonetheless it is gorgeous. Barneys Debuts the Latest Seril Handbags

Be on the lookout this month at your local Barneys for the latest handcrafted leather handbag designs from Marjori Seril. Her newest line, intended to appeal to the "Stealth Wealth" consumer, in her words are "for individuals who can afford it, but aren't necessarily into flash, obvious logos or status symbols." The designs are understated but edgy, all are hand sewn and crafted right in Los Angeles, and many have been seen with celebrities such as Angelina Jolie at various high-profile events.

The following Barneys are the places to be this month if you're looking for a new Seril of your own: Madison Ave (NYC), Beverly Hills (CA), South Coast Plaza (CA), CO-OP Soho (NYC), CO-OP Upper West Side (NYC), and Copley Place (Dallas).

Frette Cashton Throw

Frette calls the throw shown here the Cashton, perhaps because you have to spend a lot of cash on it. It is made of pure cashmere and bordered in python. It is shown here resting on a python pillow. The throw is $4,000 and the pillow sells for $3,500. I've never though of python as a particularly cozy material but it certainly makes a statement.

Straw is a prominent component of many spring bags, as a lighter contrast from the heavy, primarily leather handbags that are in stores in winter. It also tends to make bags look much more casual than other materials and - let's face it - an all straw bag is just not always appropriate, no matter how season it may be. Nancy Gonzalez's Python/Straw Tote Bag strikes a nice balance between the luxury of the python and the casual straw, so the bag is much more versatile that you would expect a snakeskin (or plain straw) bag to be. Gucci has their new spring cruise bags up on their website and while many of them are nice, none are as eye-catching as the Peggy Top Handle Bag. This particular bag comes in a burnished copper python that is sure to make a sun-worshiper's mouth water. It has a removable shoulder strap, a semi-circular bamboo handle and light gold hardware. The large size, pictured, measures 18"L x 1.6"W x 11.8"H. Price: $3,190.
