DANESE Puzzle

It's so refreshing to see wooden toys being made more often! This Danese puzzle by artist Enzo Mari, features 16 animal shaped pieces that can be arranged a variety of ways providing hours of fun for your little one. Limited edition with only 300 produced per year, this abstract looking puzzle is as much a work of art as it is a sturdy toy. Authentic durmast wood guarantees it will last for years to come. Available on YOOX.com for $465.

Jigsaw Puzzle Table

It has been much too long since we had a good jigsaw puzzle-themed item here, but this Jigsaw Puzzle Table is clever enough to make up for it. The coffee table (also available in end-table size) is made of twenty pieces of solid beech that you assemble yourself into a remarkably stable design that is much easier to build and looks a lot more interesting than any of the built-it-yourself tables from those prefab Swedish furniture stores. Price: £300.

Stave Wooden Puzzles

These are not your grandmother's jigsaw puzzles, either in materials or design. Stave Wooden Puzzles are carefully handcrafted - cut, sanded and polished - by a master craftsman. They have a huge inventory of images in stock, but can also make custom puzzles out of photographs, for example, so the piece will really have sentimental value on top of simply being a work of art. Prices range from about $200 to thousands, depending on the level of customization, the number of pieces and the size of the puzzle. They also carry several designs that are ready for immediate shipment if you need a gift right away. The Bubbles Puzzle, pictured, is priced at $417 online.

Juno Sofa

The Juno Sofa is described as being "sensual, clear and unpretentious." By this, of course, they mean that it looks like a giant Tetris piece, though that's not necessarily a bad thing at all. Produced by the design group Norway Says, the sofa manages to look good from every angle. In fact, you can almost see well-dressed party-goers lounging against the sides of the couch over cocktails, as well as picturing a single person relaxing with a good book. The couch is made of upholstered hardwood on a frame of chromium-plated steel, so it is stable enough to be functional from all sides. The single cushion is movable and doubles as an armrest for anyone sitting anywhere on the sofa. Price: $7,495 (3-seater, pictured).

Puzzle Carpeting

Another puzzle-themed piece to add to our ever growing collection is the Imperial Puzzle Carpet. Available at Ona in packages of 6 for $56, the modular carpet can be arranged just like a puzzle, though its slightly irregular pieces mean that there is more than one "right" way to do so. Only three colors are available - light grey, charcoal and sand - so the puzzle will attract interest, but won't detract from the rest of the room.

Puzzle Floors

We have a soft spot for puzzle pieces when it comes to design. It's one thing to use them on our tables or in our gardens, but Puzzle Floor really hits it out of the park with their puzzle-piece hardwood floors. Each piece is made from northern hardwood and is available in 13 different colors that will flatter almost all rooms. The colors can be mixed and matched to create unique designes, if desired. There are two shapes, a "male" and a "female" which snap together easily, much in the same way that laminate flooring does, though the sealed hardwood will last longer than laminate because it can be refinished every few years to eliminate any signs of wear. The flooring is $15 per square foot.

Sculpted Salad Servers and Bowl

There is something about puzzle pieces, when they are snapped together, that really pleases the eye - which is a grown-up way of saying that they're fun to look at. Take, for example, these Sculpted Salad Servers. Made of stainless steel, their curves fit together perfectly, making the servers both useful and visually appealing. Whether it's a bit silly or not, I like the idea of anything that makes me feel like a kid - especially if it does so when I'm eating salad. The servers hug the shape of the bowl, but are can be purchased separately, if desired. Price for tongs alone: $55. With bowl $88.
