Fendi Savana Mini Baguette

I've always been drawn to rustic colored handbags. Especially chocolate brown and burnt orange. Brown is a versatile color that complements many outfits, while burnt orange injects an understated pop of color. It's no wonder the Fendi Savana Mini Baguette ($935) caught my attention. Although described as being brown, the Savana Mini has burnt orange undertones making for a unique hue. This lady-like purse is fashioned in a shimmery grained leather with a gold toned chain link shoulder strap that really sets it off. Add a logo medallion and voila – you have yourself a breathtakingly elegant purse that could be worn for work or a special evening out. Measurements: 4.5" x 7" x 1".

Missoni Emerald Green Purse, Handbag of the Day

Ever since Louis Vuitton's Fall 2010 show, I've become enamored with ladylike purses. They exude an elegance and sophistication that pays homage to the 1950s while maintaining a timeless and stylish appeal. Rightly so, they're the perfect complement to waist-cinching, voluminous skirts and dresses but they also add a feminine and understated sexiness to jeans, high heeled boots and a slim fitting sweater.

The Missoni Purse ($1136) is just beautiful. With a base of glowing emerald green and sprinkles of black and white, the color palette draws you in. The shoulder strap is a combination of metal and tortoise - which makes for an eye catching detail. My favorite part of Missoni's bag is the interior caramel leather - it's a great color choice against green. And to complete the look there is a turn lock tortoise closure that is surrounded by oval shaped accents.

The Derek Lam Albertine Leather Clutch is a fabulously modern purse, but perhaps it was inspired by the abstract architecture of Vienna's Albertina.

We love the diagonal line the zipper-edged flap creates in a gleaming goldtone, adding edge to this otherwise quite simple black clutch. This 10"W X 5½"H X 1½"D bag is made with soft Italian calf leather and is lined in a pretty peach tone. The zipper isn't the closure; it's a front pocket. The purse actually opens and closes with a magnetic snap.

Asymmetry is best when it's balanced, and this purse achieves that beautifully with a soft calf leather tassel banded in gold. It may just be a rectangular black clutch, but this purse will definitely turn heads.

This happily trimmed purse also comes in a cheery shade of red, which picks up the red line in the Burberry check quite handsomely -- but we couldn't resist featuring this sunny, yet autumnal yellow.

This retro bowler-shaped bag features a classy Burberry pleat adorned with a subtly hidden logo. We love the handles, so get rid of that shoulder strap if you don't absolutely need it. The Italian-made bag is 12"W X 8½"H X 5¼"D, just small enough to ensure that no one mistakes it for your work bag. It's lined in cotton and has several inside pockets to keep your leisure-time goodies organized.

The Lanvin Ouloulou Satin Pouchette makes us say "Ooh la la!"

There's nothing like peach satin to give an outfit vintage appeal. This pretty pouchette has a hammered satin flap front, a delicate chain-link strap and a grosgrain pompom detail. The button covers a magnetic closure and adds shape to this lovely, peaches-and-cream purse.

Though it's a little pinker in person, this Italian-made bag exudes charm and innocence. The pouchette itself is 6" x 9.5" x 2" and lined in satin, ensuring only the very best treatment for the goodies you put inside it. While this would be difficult to pull off with a contrasting color, we'd love to see this with a little black dress, a little white dress or maybe, maybe a black-and-white pattern.

One extra thing to love about this purse: shiny satin transitions perfectly into the holiday season, and you'll definitely be able to carry this from now until the company holiday party.

The Alexander Wang Amber Spiral Notebook Clutch is an adorable conversation piece -- and you can put your money in it.

Rather than making the hardware look like a spiral, they went ahead and made it a spiral. This embossed, lustrous black cowhide clutch opens just like a notebook to reveal three layered inside pockets in smooth, softer leather.

The bag is 11"W X 7"H X 1"D and goes with virtually anything, as, at first glance, no one will realize it's your purse. Pair it with cute croc heels and a monochrome dress to achieve a sexy, saucy secretarial look.

Also, keep a pen and paper inside if at all possible; someone might ask you to write something down.

It's all about the details. Fashion is a statement, and simplicity doesn't always capture what we want to say. Sometimes, we feel less like a sleek black tote and more like a washed black leather clutch with a detachable part-chain strap and four artful smatterings of gold studs. That's just the way it is.

Flat bags like this are usually huge, so it's nice to see a small one -- perfect for stashing in your suitcase for a change-of-purse. Gwen Stefani has done it again. The L.A.M.B. Ultraviolet Briolette Leather Bag is fresh, youthful and classy, and surprisingly affordable.

This baby yellow, embroidered leather bag is given an unexpected edge by the inclusion of dark nickel zippers. The bag is smallish (10½"W X 6"H X 3"D), so the zippers are subtle enough to pass at dressier events. A closer look will let those around you know that you've got personality and style; this is not just a run-of-the-mill purse.

We don't know how Ms. Stefani keeps her prices so low, but her youthful designs are well-served by the practice. For those of us who scoff at overspoiled teens, this bag is a refreshingly appropriate gift. And, as this goes easily from the classroom to the dance floor, it's sure to get plenty of use.

The Gucci New Bamboo Large Top Handle Bag is a gorgeous neo-classic from a house we love.

The unusual texture you're looking at is actually a fascinating heather gray leather -- feels normal, looks innovative. This is one of those bags that will become even more attractive with age.

The heather leather -- that's right, we said it -- and steely nickel hardware are a beautiful contrast for the bamboo details. The bamboo accents are carefully balanced; just the bases of the tassels are utilized, and the gorgeous handle is wrapped with elaborate leather details to keep the color contrasts in harmony. We especially like the big, bold bamboo turnlock closure -- so much more tactile than the usual hardware.

The top flap hides a Gucci inscribed mirror and the bag includes two detachable shoulder straps; one in plain leather and one in braided leather with chain. This 10½"W X 6¾"H X 4¼"D masterpiece gives a modern spin to the retro bamboo handle, but the look is still quite difficult to dress up. We find this Gucci most appropriate for lunch or brunch, and casual activities like films and shopping.

The Salvatore Ferragamo Soft Cesar Clutch is a quirky and attractive steel-colored masterpiece.

After a long 2009 of safe choices by most well-known designers, this unusual style from an established house is a welcome surprise. The soft natural-grain calfskin is gently tucked at the corners by striking silver rings. The flap top is accented with Ferragamo's signature Gancini belt and two decorative studs, which balance the subtle swoop of the shape. The steely gray color is the only "safe" thing about this bag -- but with the bull-ring-esque details and demure 6"H x 11"W x 3"D size, the color only ensures versatility.

This clutch is perfect for day or night, and the rings and belt are sure to be noticed. We'd love to see this sexing up a pastel spring ensemble.

The Danielle Nicole Sarah Clutch is a fabulously original find.

Danielle Nicole is a relatively new designer who, after launching her line in 2006, started making cosmetic bags for Bergdorf Goodman in 2007. Luck continued to shine on her charming bags as they flew off the shelves and soon, Neiman Marcus, Saks and Bloomingdales were requesting handbag collections.

The unique use of crushed patent leather is wild, yet sophisticated with the help of the pewter metallic leather contrast (also available in black). The clutch is a generous 9 3/8"H x 13"W x 1/2"D, with a front flap and a hidden golden closure. We love pewter as a neutral, and the thought of choosing which black shoes to pair this with makes us all excited. The style is fresh, yet timeless, and we look forward to seeing more from Danielle Nicole.
