Are Gordon Ramsay and David Beckham Partnering On A Pub?

Are David Beckham and Gordon Ramsay going into business together in Los Angeles? Various reports say that the pair are teaming up to open a pub in Los Angeles called The Queen Vic (named not after the actual queen but after Victoria Beckham).

The popular Brits are friends and have been discussing a business for years. The Ramsays and Beckhams even hung out together last Christmas and after the families cooked together they got the idea that opening a restaurant might be a good idea. They think that a traditional English pub might be a hit with expatriates from the UK as well as with the locals. The pub would have ales and beer on tap and serve classic English specialties like fish and chips and bangers and mash.

But don't get too excited yet a spokesman for Beckham said there are no plans in the pipeline yet. And given Ramsay's recent restaurant track record, it's not clear if he has the time to devote to this latest venture.

Swedes Skittish on the People's Jeans

HELLO IT'S Noko Jeans! from Noko Jeans on Vimeo.

Novelty isn't enough to keep the latest in Swedish jeans on store shelves. Noko, which debuted last week, is an upscale brand with an unusual twist -- it's made by people who could never partake in the style. The jeans are manufactured in North Korea, where access to jeans is rare at best.

Swedish department store PUB, decided to stop selling the jeans in order to avoid controversy. After all, who'd want to be associated with the land of Kim Jong Il? The department store's management claims it didn't know of the jeans' origin and killed the deal as soon as it learned of the North Korea connection. Sweden is effectively the western world's envoy to Pyongyang.

Rene Stephansen, PUB's director, told The Associated Press, "For us, this is not a question of Noko Jeans - this is a question about a political issue that PUB doesn't want to be associated with." He continued, "This is not the forum for the discussion."

Noko Jeans was developed by three Swedish entrepreneurs who wanted to engage North Korea, end the isolation ... and probably capitalize on the Communist mystique. The jeans are only available in black, and they aren't cheap. One pair will set you back $215 a pop!

The plan was that Noko Jeans would be sold at Aplace, a store within the PUB store, according to Stephansen. Aplace isn't on board with PUB's decision, calling it "a bit cowardly."

Newcastle Brown Ale's New DraughtKeg

Newcastle DraughtKegBeginning next month one of our favorite beers, Newcastle Brown Ale founded in 1927 in the Northeast of England, will launch its new portable DraughtKeg in select markets initially including Southern California, Minneapolis and Chicago.

Featuring the same technology originally created by Heineken, the Newcastle DraughtKeg is a pressurized recyclable mini-keg that serves up to 10 pints (5 liters) of Newcastle draught beer for the ultimate at-home pub experience. The suggested retail price is $22.99.

The DraughtKeg's pressurized draught system utilizes a patented internal CO2 mechanism with a mini tap which helps keep the beer fresh for up to 30 days. It's also compatible with the Krups BeerTender, which chills the DraughtKeg and maintains its ideal temperature.

The Aquapub

Although here in the Midwest pool season is almost over, there are those lucky to be living in areas where they may just be getting started with the warm season or else it's toasty all year round. For those folks (or those of us in colder climates can put it on our wish list for next year) this Aquapub not only looks like bunches of fun, but it looks like unique fun your neighbors probably aren't offering. It's one thing to enjoy a Mai Tai by the pool, but what about in it? That can be a little awkward unless you have the Aquapub that seats six and comes complete with cup holders, 2 stashes, and an umbrella. It drains water, is a portable 90 lbs and is made of recycled materials. What more could you want?
