Sir Richard Branson launches the world's first digital magazine exclusively for the iPad.

Our friends at AOL Small Business are reporting that Sir Richard Branson has applied his well-known ingenuity to the publishing world. Yesterday, Branson launched Project, the world's first digital magazine of its kind designed exclusively for Apple's iPad (watch a video interview with Branson here).

Branson, the founder and chairman of Virgin Group and a member of the AOL Small Business Board of Directors, officially introduced Project at New York's Crosby Street Hotel.

Join a Timeshare Tribe

Tribewanted.com is a new concept in timeshare vacations that combines the traditional location-sharing arrangements with a tropical island. The catch is that all participants in the "tribe" are responsible for overseeing the eco-friendly development of a Pacific Island. Essentially, it's a real life variation on Survivor, with teamwork, construction and a tropical island, but without the contests and voting, though there will be a documentary crew on site taking weekly videos of the people and the project.

For $220 to $660, you can join for 1-3 years and visit the island, near Fiji, for 1-3 weeks (airfare is not included). During your visit, you will be filmed while you participate in the development of a sustainable village community. Broadcasts will be put on the Tribewanted website for other participants to view. The fact that members must work together in the building process and the development process - from selecting island locations to which buildings will have solar panels - is where the "tribe" concept comes from. There will be a local tribal chief overseeing the project.

Philly Pinacle Project

Philadelphia has plans for a new, waterfront casino complex, but has not yet decided on a design. Among the submissions for the final design, the standout is Pinnacle Entertainment's huge 260,000-sq foot entertainment center, which would be situated along the Delaware River. Pinnacle is the lead in the project not only from an aesthetic perspective, but because it caters to non-gamblers as well as those who like to play the slots. Though it has the same 3,000 slot machines and 3,000 parking spaces as the other submissions, it offers and unusually ambitious and appealing design, with movie theaters, restaurants, concert venues and either boating or ice skating, depending on the season. The casino will also be set back further from the surrounding neighborhood, disguised with trees and parks. It has an estimated at a final price of $300-$400 million, but the price tag will not be what sways the city for or against a particular casino: it's the extra amenities, which Pinnacle's project delivers in spades.

Dubai's Bawadi Project

Dubai is planning to begin construction on what will be the world's largest hotel complex. The Bawadi Project, as it is called, will cost $27 billion and will be located just outside of Dubai City. The goal of the project is to double tourism in the state, increasing the 6 million visitors from 2005 to as many as 15 million in the next decade. Complete construction will take approximately 8 years, though it will be done in stages, and will result in a total of more than 30 hotels and 29,000 hotel rooms, many of which will be in the 4 and 5 star categories. The first part of the complex will be the Asia-Asia Hotel, which alone will provide 6,500 rooms. The development will also house a series of entertainment centers, shopping malls, theaters, restaurants and convention centers, catering to all the varied interests of tourists to Dubai.

Trump Takes On Panama

Here a Trump, there a Trump, everywhere a Trump, Trump, the Donald has been zipping around the globe lately planning massive projects. The latest is the Trump Ocean Club, international Hotel & Tower, in Panama City, Panama. The $220 million project, will include a 65-story condominium tower with 300 co-tel units and an additional 500 condo units, a casino and private beach club on Contadora Island. The Trump Ocean Club will also include a yacht club, spa, gym, and business center. It's the first Trump project in Central America. The Trump Ocean Club, Panama will be located in the Punta Pacifica area of Panama City and is expected to be completed in 2009.

Why Panama? Panama is seen as a good place to retire due to a low cost of living, great weather and good medical facilities. It has been rated as one of the best places for retirement or a second home because of the safety and beauty of the country.
