Sommelier Cellar, A Private Sale Wine Site For The U.K.

Fresh on the heels of the announcement of Lot 18 here in the U.S., the UK gets its own private sales club for wine. SommelierCellar is the UK's first online private sales club for wine and offers deals from the World's finest estates. SommelierCellar offers its members private sales of fine wine at up to 50% off the original retail price. The wine will only be available for limited periods of time to its network of members. Joining up is free and there will be new sales each week.

The wine offers are selected by UK Best Sommeliers, Matt Wilkin and Andrea Briccarello and top wine writer, Chris Losh. The site will also include advice from the buying team including tasting notes and food pairing information. Wines, sold by the case of six bottles, will be offered for up to two weeks, or until the stocks have sold out. When a wine is selected by the buying team, members are notified via email. When the individual sale is over, that particular wine won't appear again. Once bought, the wines will be delivered to the members' home or office within 7 days.

Ideeli Launches Travel Tuesdays

A private sale veteran is the latest to join the travel deals website business. Ideeli, a site which launched at the end of 2007 and is one of the fastest growing private sale websites, has created a new Travel Tuesdays sale. The site will be offering its nearly three million members a selection of travel offers at prices of between 30 percent and 60 percent off, as well as special members-only perks such as complimentary room upgrades, spa and restaurant credits. To celebrate the launch, ideeli is hosting a "Putter's Paradise Giveaway" that includes a 2-night stay at The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort a, 5-star oceanfront hotel and spa.

"Travel is an essential component of our members' 'ideel' lifestyle," says Paul Hurley, CEO and founder of ideeli. "We are excited to now offer such carefully vetted and editorially-driven travel experiences on a regular basis."

Others in the private sale travel business include Vacationist, Jetsetter and the recently launched SniqueAway.

Trip Advisor Launches New Private Sale Website

Trip Advisor and Smarter Travel Media are the latest to get in on the booming private sale business, but with slightly different slant. The SniqueAway website uses Trip Advisor's substantial database of user reviews to help customers choose their getaways. The website offers only four- to five-star luxury properties that have garnered the highest reviews on Trip Advisor. The first sale is on September 20th but registration is now open. Once the window to book is live you can login to book a room in the resort of your choice at a special discounted rate.

Although the press release admits that the website is "late to the party" that doesn't seem to be a concern. "We've watched and learned and now we're ready to party with the players who have proven the private sale model to be a winner," said Massimo De Nadai, General Manager for Smarter Travel Media. Other websites offering private sale travel deals include Jetsetter and Vacationist.

Overstock.com Launches New Private Sale Site

Popular shopping site Overstock.com is expanding into the trendy private sale area with Eziba.com, a new private sale website focusing on home decor. The sales will be offered each day starting at 11:00 Eastern Time. Each sale will last between 48 and 72 hours. Home Accents Today notes that Eziba.com is not accessible through the Overstock.com homepage, but Overstock users can log in using their existing Overstock.com user name and password on the Eziba site. The site is also open for new members. Like Overstock.com, Eziba.com offers $2.95 shipping on all items. Brands on Eziba include Lenox, Kitchen Aid, CG Sparks furniture, Calypso and more.

"We are excited to launch Eziba.com," said Overstock.com President Jonathan Johnson in a press release. "Overstock.com has relationships with a large network of suppliers, who are in search of different avenues to sell product. It was a natural progression for the O to build a private sale site."

Eziba is entering a packed field that includes One Kings Lane, Rue La La and Gilt Groupe.
