Real luxury isn't always about glitz and glam, but about quality construction and awesome functionality. Here we have a flashlight, ahem "Emergency Illuminator," by the sleek and trendy people at Porsche Design Studio that is aiming to meet both those criteria by being super bright (180 lumens LED) and having nifty features like a USB port for charging your cell phone/MP3 player and a backup lithium battery that kicks in if the standard C ones wear out. Plus it comes with an optional glove box bracket to keep it within easy reach on a moments notice, and of course it's a Porsche so it looks awesome. $289

Porsche Design P'9522 Black Edition

Some say white is the new black. Some say grey is the new black, or navy, or whatever new color is hot this season. You can call us old fashioned, but to us black is still black, and always will be. And Porsche evidently agrees. The company's industrial design subsidiary has just re-released their cutting edge P'9522 mobile phone in – you guessed it – all black.

Called, predictably enough, the Black Edition, the phone packs all the features of the P'9522 released last year – including the solid-aluminum construction and the fingerprint-reader security system. But, taking its cues from the anti-reflectant black instruments on a Porsche racing car – to say nothing of the original Porsche Design Chronograph I, the company's first product – the phone is decked out all in low-key black.

Porsche Design Sport Spring/Summer 2010 Collection

A company like Porsche is always looking ahead. If not to avoid crashing around that fast-approaching corner, then to come up with the next advanced feat engineering, from the variable turbocharger to the dual-clutch transmission and everything in between. So while temperatures continue to drop, Porsche Design is already looking to the spring and summer with its latest sportswear collection.

The result of a longstanding collaboration with Adidas, the newest Porsche Design Sport collection features items for driving, running, swimming, sailing, tennis and more. There's a good 26 new items in the collection, which you can check out in the gallery below.

Porsche Family's Personal Watch Collection to be Auctioned

49 watches from the private collection of Prof. F. A. Porsche of the famed sports car marque and his sons will be auctioned by Bonhams on Dec. 2 in London during its Fine Watches and Timepieces sale. Included are timepieces by Eterna, Porsche Design, Rolex, Panerai, Jaeger LeCoultre, Breitling, Chronoswiss, Omega and more. Of particular note are prototypes and unique examples of Eterna and Porsche Design watches custom made for the Porsche family. The latter includes a fine 18 carat gold chronograph (above) made especially by Eterna (now owned by Porsche) and presented to Dr. Ferdinand Oliver Porsche for his 40th birthday, estimated at £4,000 - £6,000. Also included in the collection is a very rare Rolex Explorer with ivory dial (£,5000 -£7,000), a selection of Panerai watches including a Luminor Flyback (£3,000 - £5,000), and an original Jaeger LeCoultre Polaris from 1960 (£5,000 - £7,000).

Porsche Design revives the iconic Yoko Ono Sunglasses

Back in her heyday, Yoko Ono was almost never seen without her shades on. And these were them: The original sunglasses from Porsche Design. She wore them on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine, she wore them at press conferences, she wore them during recording sessions and when she was on vacation. She's still wearing them, even though they haven't been made in years. But now the German automaker's product design studio is bringing them back as the P'8479, complete with visible gold-tone screws and Beta-Titanium frame. Make no mistake about it, the 80s are back.

Porsche Design: A Driving Force in Footwear

Form or function? It's a question as old as, well...footwear itself. Because typically shoes that serve a specific function have their form dedicated to them. Just think of work boots or running shoes and you'll know what we mean. Conversely shoes designed for form aren't typically very functional. Porsche Design, however, figures they've got it figured out with its latest footwear collection.

Built around a unique sole designed specifically for driving, the collection includes a variety of styles for the gentleman driver, ranging from formal oxfords to sporty sneakers. Each features a left sole with a solid grip to operate the clutch and a right sole designed for easy transition from gas to brake. The uppers are made from black, white, gray and brown calfskin, and are fabricated in Italy by Müller & Meirer Lederwarenfabrik GmbH.

Porsche Design The Essence Intense

If you were trying to capture the essence of a sportscar, what sort of scents would you put in the bottle? Burnt rubber? Leather? Gasoline? How about juniper berries, mandarin orange and myrtle? Because those are exactly the notes which Porsche Design has used in its new fragrance, The Essence Intense.

The follow-up to their original scent, The Essence, launched about a year and a half ago, Intense is a fresh, aromatic and woody fragrance for men. The scent was developed together with Clarins Group – which is responsible, among other things, for the Azzuro line – but since it's a Porsche Design, the bottle has received significant attention, combining smoked frosted glass and black brushed aluminum in a particularly sleek package. Although it's initially available only as a spray eau-de-toilette in 50 and 80 milliliter sprays, expect a whole range of scented products to follow.

Porsche Design's 135-Foot Catamaran Megayacht for Royal Falcon Fleet

Unlike its automotive counterpart which keeps making its cars bigger and bigger, Porsche Design tends to keep things small. The product design division of the German automaker turns its talents on everything from mobile phones and watches to clothing and luggage. But this time they're thinking a bit bigger. A lot bigger, actually.

We brought you initial information about the company's impending collaboration with Singapore's Royal Falcon Fleet ship yard last year when it was still in the embryonic stage. But design work has now been completed and construction has started on the impressive 135-foot catamaran megayacht. The twin-hull design gives the RFF135 a wide beam and unrivaled stability without displacing as much water as a conventional design, while providing a massive 472 square meters of interior floorspace and 208 square meters of deck space, more than enough to accommodate 10 guests and 10 crew. Twin MTU V16 turbodiesel engines each produce an unfathomable 4600 horsepower, enough to keep the vessel at a theoretical 35-knot top speed and making it the most powerful vehicle of any kind Porsche has ever designed. Porsche Design Updates the Understated Flat Six Watch Range

When driving a high-performance sports car at speed, the last thing you want is to be squinting to see how early (or fashionably late) you're running. Which could explain why Porsche Design has gone to great lengths to make sure that its basic Flat Six watch line is easily readable at a glance.

Named after Porsche's iconic horizontally-opposed six-cylinder engine layout, the Flat Six watch has just been updated and can be had in a variety of styles, colors and finishes,. Buyers can choose between white, black, blue or red dials, polished steel or PVD-coated cases, conventional or chronograph movements, rubber or steel bracelets and more. And while they may not be as flashy or avant-garde as other timepieces on the market – including some also made by Porsche Design – the updated Porsche Design Flat Six line will appeal to the same buyers who admire their timeless 911 sports cars.

Baldessarini and Porsche Design Team Up For Retro Collection

Although summer 2009 isn't even over yet, fashion designers are already showing their fall/winter collections. But two luxury fashion houses are keeping a step ahead by introducing their line-up for summer 2010. And in the process, they've gone back to the 1970's for inspiration.

The collaboration between Baldessarini and Porsche Design started in 2006 with a solitary leather jacket. For 2010, the two companies have created another leather jacket, and complimented it with a polo shirt, t-shirt and yet another jacket. The collection is shaded in black, white and titanium grey, with a splash of red for color, and takes its cues from the Pascha pattern – a wavy checker-board graphic that simulated the victory flag from motor racing – that was available on Porsche sportscars in the 70s. The joint collection will be available in both Porsche Design and Baldessarini boutiques from November 2009. (Details in the press release after the jump and photos in the gallery below.)

Porsche Design and Adidas Launch New Collection for Fall/Winter 2009

Enjoy the summer months. Really. Because before you know it, they'll be gone and in their place we'll have the cold winter. Unless, of course, you live close enough to the equator that it hardly makes a difference. But for the rest of us, the winter we'll come. And when it does, we'll be thankful that companies like Porsche Design and Adidas have been preparing for it.

The two German purveyors of sportswear have teamed up once again for their latest Fall/Winter 2009 Collection, which includes a wide variety of goods for men, women and children, for a variety of uses including golf, tennis, skiing, running and, of course, driving. This is Porsche Design, after all. And for this season they've added a splash of color, although the beiges, taupes, grays and blacks are still well represented. So whether you drive a Porsche or want to to look like you do, Porsche Design and Adidas have got you covered. Literally.

Porsche Design Commemorates Launch of new Panamera with Special Collection

Porsche Design has long since evolved from an automotive design studio into a company offering a wide range of highly desirable products, sold worldwide through their own dedicated stores, along with special design work for other companies as well. But all the while they haven't forgotten their roots. As if to demonstrate just that, the studio has launched a new collection to compliment the new Panamera four-door grand touring car from their automotive sister-company. The collection includes all manner of clothing and accessories for men, women and children, as well as a line of Swiss-made timepieces and a set of fitted luggage. The latter is made of lightweight aluminum and polycarbonate, designed to fit in the trunk space of the new Panamera and available in the same exterior colors to provide a fresh take on the traditional soft-sided fitted luggage offered by other luxury automakers.

Porsche Design's Racy New Motorsport Collection

Porsche Design has teamed up with everyone under the sun for a vast portfolio of luxury designer products: Adidas, Ferragamo, Siemens, Bösendorfer, Swarovski, Royal Falcon Fleet shipyard, Eton radios...the list goes on. But its latest line goes straight to Porsche's heart and soul. The Motorsport Collection includes all manner of clothing and accessories for man, woman and child, all in white, gray and red and complete with sponsor's logos for that authentic race-track pit-lane look and feel. The highlight of the range is a limited-edition jacket of which only 911 examples will be made, reflecting the model name of Porsche's timeless sportscar. At $649, the jacket is the most expensive piece in the collection, too, but they're all available directly from the Porsche Design online shop.

Porsche Design Releases P'9522 Phone

Success is never enough for the successful. Take Porsche, which has established itself as one of the most profitable automakers in the industry. Already selling their sportscars in record numbers, Porsche turned to sport-utility vehicles and now to four-door sedans as well. But the German automaker isn't about to stop there, branching as well into merchandizing with its Porsche Design division, which has just launched their latest offering: the new P'9522 mobile phone.

Featuring the latest technologies packed into a slick package, the P'9522 includes a 5 mexapixel camera with flash, GPS module, stereo MP3 player, WiFi, quad-band antennas for use around the world (save Japan and Korea), and a biometric fingerprint reader for security. While Porsche Design's previous P'9521 was a flip-phone, the features of the new P'9522 are packed into a solid block of aluminum with a scratch-resistant glass touchscreen face. While €600 (approx. $774) may seem like a lot of cash for a cell phone, it's just half the price of the P'9521, available from Porsche Design retail stores and its online shop. Porsche is staging a traveling photography exhibit featuring the phone, which you can check out in the gallery below along with stock photos of the P'9522.

New Porsche Design x Adidas Sport Collection

Adidas and Porsche Design have just debuted their new Spring/Summer 2009 Porsche Design Sport Collection, their biggest collaboration yet. Their line of Running apparel, originally launched in January 2007, will now also include Fitness models, while a whole new category called Water / Snow is being added. That makes five categories in total including Driving, Golf and Tennis. Porsche Design Sport "stands for the unique fusion of engineered luxury and sport performance." The collection will be be available in selected high-end stores, Adidas Sport Performance Concept Stores and Porsche Design Stores worldwide.

Highlights for Spring/Summer 2009 include a Storm Jacket designed for the new Water / Snow range, which features a new membrane technology that "reacts to changing temperatures and activities, offers moisture vapor permeability at the highest level and is wind and waterproof, ensuring optimum body climate." There's also a new Horizon sneaker, Adidas' "first luxury shoe specially engineered for sailing and water related activities." It features a drainage system throughout the foot bed and sole for "optimal deviation of water" as well as a high abrasion resistant rubber sole with a multidirectional grip enabling a quicker response on a wet boat deck.
