With sales of its four-door coupe hitting record numbers around the globe, Porsche has announced a new top-of-the-line model. The Panamera Turbo S packs a prodigious 550 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque from its twin-turbocharged V8 engine – 50 and 37 more than the existing Panamera Turbo.

Moby Dick: 750hp Porsche Panamera Turbo by Edo Competition

If you're looking for a luxury sedan that can perform like a sportscar, you could do a lot worse than the Porsche Panamera Turbo. With 500 horsepower on tap, it's one of the fastest four-doors on the market. But for a company like Edo Competition, that's never enough.

Edo has made a name for itself by taking extreme performance machines like Ferraris and Lamborghinis and moving them even further into the stratosphere. Now the German tuning studio has turned its attention to the Panamera. Engine modifications boost output up by 50% to 750 horsepower, which Edo says should be good for a 0-60 sprint in under four seconds and an Autobahn-crunching top speed of 211 mph.

They've also teamed up with Mansory for a custom body kit, dropped the suspension, mounted 22-inch wheels and a sport exhaust. Since each example is built to order, buyers can choose from a range of interior options as well, including wood veneers, carbon fiber or metal trim, leather and a variety of luxe fabrics. Following a recently completed $40 million facelift, Beverly Wilshire, A Four Seasons Hotel has just unveiled its newly renovated Penthouse and Presidential Suite for the ultimate in movie star style. The Penthouse, beginning at $25,000 per night, is the largest hotel suite in Los Angeles and now one of the world's most expensive as well. L.A.-based architectural firm Barry Design Associates transformed the historic suites into modern, sophisticated spaces. They even throw in a Porsche. The Beverly Wilshire is a true piece of Hollywood history; the Italian Renaissance-style stone and marble building was completed in 1928 when the city had fewer than 18,000 residents, and its grand suites have played host to many of movieland's most famous faces over the decades.

The three-bedroom Penthouse offers guests 5,000 square feet of space. Positioned on the private top floor of the hotel's Beverly Wing it features floor-to-ceiling windows, high ceilings and a wrap around balcony with sweeping views of downtown L.A. and the Hollywood Hills. An entry way welcomes guests with marble mosaic flooring and Swarovski crystal chandeliers, while a dining room offers seating for 12 people adjacent to a state-of-the-art designer kitchen with Michelangelo marble countertops and Miele appliances. The elegant master bedroom is highlighted by an antique mirror and silver leaf detailed bed frame along with huge walk-in closet finished in stained oak. The master bath is fitted with glass tiles, exotic stones, a marble soaking tub, dual steam and rain shower contains a light and music system. There's also a media room for private screenings of your latest blockbuster.

The two-bedroom Presidential Suite offers 4,000 square feet of space, entered through a spectacular grand foyer (above) with Corinthian columns and intricate crown molding designed when the Hotel first opened over 80 years ago. Located on the eighth floor of the hotel's original Wilshire Wing, it features sweeping views of the Hollywood Hills and has been graced by numerous celebrities, legends and dignitaries over the years. The suite comes complete with its own living room and library as well, while the master bath is fitted with a soaking tub, steam shower for two and integrated televisions in the mirrors above the black lacquer vanity counters. Porsche Panamera Personalization Program

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

Buying a new Porsche is invariably a costly proposition. But the list price, as anyone who's gone through the order process could tell you, is only the tip of the proverbial iceberg, the options list stretching on for an Autobahn mile with the sky as the limit. The latest example covers the Panamera with a series of add-ons for the well-healed customer.

First up is the Powerkit package for the top-of-the-line Panamera Turbo, which squeezes an extra 40 horsepower and 37 lb-ft of torque from the turbocharged engine for a total 540 and 553. Not enough? Put 'er into Sport Plus mode and it'll boost torque up to 590, completing a 3.9-second sprint to 62 mph and a 190 mph top speed.

There's also a Sport Design Package that upgrades the aerodynamics package and the wheels. All at a cost, of course: $21,730 (over the cost of the Panamera Turbo) for the Powerkit and $4590 for the Sport Design Package, in this case.

Porsche Panamera by Sportec

If you've got your eye on the new Porsche Panamera, chances are it's the performance you're after, because it certainly isn't the looks. And if you want an extra boost, there's no shortage of aftermarket tuning firms that will be glad to dial it up to 11.

The latest is Sportec, a Swiss tuner intimately familiar with customizing Porsches. Its new kit for the Panamera comes in two stages: For $4,600, Sportec will squeeze output up from 493 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque stock to an impressive 560 hp and 576 lb-ft, dropping 0.3 seconds off the 0-60 time to run it in a lightning fast 3.9.

Not enough? The stage 2 kit upgrades with a variable exhaust system that raises output even further to 575 hp and 598 lb-ft for a 3.8-second sprint to sixty... and a $12k premium.

Porsche Announces Panamera S Hybrid

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos, Green

Keen on getting your hands on a Porsche Panamera, but not so keen on skyrocketing fuel consumption? Then we've got good news for you, because in addition to developing a variety of new electric-drive prototypes for both road and track, Porsche has confirmed the arrival of the Panamera S Hybrid.

Borrowing its gasoline-electric drivetrain from the existing Cayenne S Hybrid sport-utility, the Panamera S Hybrid will be driven by a 329-horsepower 3-liter V6 coupled by a 46hp electric motor. And like its high-riding counterpart, it will be able to operate on electric power alone at low speeds around town. Expect the Panamera S Hybrid to arrive sometime next year.

Panamera Outsells All Other Porsches in America

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

porsche panalux

There's strength in numbers, or so the saying goes. Purists who feel that a proper Porsche should have two doors and an engine in the back may take solace in that thought, because the latest sales figures for the German automaker in the American market have just come in.

For the first time since its (admittedly recent) introduction, the new Porsche Panamera has become the company's top seller Stateside. In fact the 678 Panameras which Porsche sold in the U.S. in April comes in at more than double that of the 911, Porsche's core product.

The Cayenne sport-utility vehicle was the top seller, averaging 800 per month over the course of last year, but while the Panamera may have usurped the truck's throne, the introduction of the new Cayenne could see it return to the top spot in short order.
