Porsche Panamera to Start At $74,400 With 300-hp V6

Looking to get yourself into a new Porsche Panamera but don't want or need the performance of a 400-horsepower V8 engine? Good news, then. Porsche has just announced its new V6-powered Panamera with a starting price for the RWD model at $74,400 and the AWD Panamera 4 at $78,900 (plus destination).

Porsche's new 3.6-liter V6 puts out 300 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, which is a decrease of an even hundred horses and 74 lb-ft from the 4.8-liter V8. For what it's worth, the V8 Panamera S costs an additional $15,400 over the base V6.

Included in the base price of the V6 Porsche Panamera is the seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) dual-clutch transmission. Also standard are an electric moonroof, power liftgate and the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system with navigation.

Porsche is also including its Auto Stop/Start technology, which should have the desirable effect of improving fuel efficiency somewhat. At this time, no official EPA numbers are are available, but Porsche says the car will not be subject to a gas guzzler tax. Luxist Drives the Porsche Panamera... and Apologizes

When Luxist sat in the driver's seat of a Porsche Panamera 4S, before even turning the key there was a conflict: this car is tremendous to sit in. Brilliant. Wonderful even. Which is not exactly problematic, but it isn't the way we expected things to commence. This driver, a dedicated Porsche-phile, has been watching the Panamera nearing its destination on the retail showroom floor like the Black Lagoon visitors watched The Creature: "Oh my god, I think it's headed this way!"

But we gladly accepted the opportunity to drive it. And when we were finished, we knew we'd have to write this piece, which we'll call our "Panamerapology." It begins with this line: Porsche, please forgive us, we're sorry – your car is awesome.

Porsche, Rolls-Royce, Jaguar, BMW and Infiniti Modifications from Wald International

One at a time, fellas. That's how most aftermarket tuners approach their projects. But not Wald International. The Japanese tuning house is launching a new line of modifications for some of the most eminently desirable luxury sedans and "four door coupes" on the market, all at once.

Included in the line-up are none other than the Porsche Panamera, Jaguar XJ, BMW 7 Series, Infiniti M and the Rolls-Royce Ghost, just for good measure. Little in the way of details have been announced, but from the images you can see in the gallery below, it appears Wald has fitted each with new front bumpers, side skirts, spoilers and wheels mounted to lowered suspensions.

Porsche Panamera by TechArt

If there's ever been a car more in need – or more deserving – of a make-over, it's the Porsche Panamera. Sure, the performance is there, but the styling is just downright awkward. Fortunately there's no shortage of Porsche tuners who've taken on the challenge, at which TechArt is the latest.

Unfortunately, TechArt's package for the Panamera is rather limited. They've fitted a new front end with a three-piece spoiler, along with 21- or 22-inch wheels. Inside, meanwhile, the company is offering a broad range of customization options, with two-tone leather and Alcantara micro-suede. We're still waiting, however, for TechArt to announce their full performance tuning package, so stay tuned.

$450K Armor-Plated Porsche Panamera for Sale

We've seen the bag of tricks the exotic auto tuners have used on the brand new four-door Porsche Panamera - now how about a bulletproof version? An armored Porsche Panamera Turbo has just been listed for sale in Frankfurt, Germany via global online luxury marketplace JamesList for €295,000, or about $450,000. It comes equipped with armored steel in the doors, posts, overlaps and walls, and ballistic steel in the roof and floor; bulletproof glass; run flat tires; an armored fuel tank; armored battery and radiator protection; and more. Capable of stopping 9mm rounds as well as an assault from an M16 or .44 Magnum, the car's impressive performance is not hampered in any way by its added security measures.

Mansory Carbon Fiber Porsche Panamera

On the heels of our recent report about exotic auto tuners taking on the new Porsche Panamera, masters of the overstated Mansory have released details on their own version (above), kitted out in new carbon fiber aerodynamic body mods. Thankfully the design is in line with the carbon fiber Porsche Cayenne they unveiled earlier this year, and not the garish pink-hued "Vitesse Rosé" Bentey ditto. The Panamera gets a new front bumper, bonnet, side skirts and fenders, new air intakes, carbon diffuser and rear bumper housing a central, dual exit exhaust. The car sits 35mm lower to the ground on a set of 21″ alloys of which various designs are on offer. Inside you can select from a bewildering array of woods, leathers, and even more carbon fiber for the trim. The company has not yet released performance specs for the vehicle.

Porsche Tuners Line Up to Take their Turn at the Panamera

The new Panamera may have just debuted, but that won't keep Porsche's strong legion of aftermarket tuners from doing what they do best. Already two of the biggest and most prominent have released tuning packages for the new four-door sedan, and a horsepower war has ensued.

9ff was one of the first to release its plan for the Panamera, before the car was even out. The tuning house behind the Veyron-battling GT9 supercar has a three-stage program for the Panamera Turbo (pictured at right), offering power in 550, 600 and 650 horsepower increments, besting the stock turbo's output of 500.

Gemballa is firing back with a take on the Panamera which it calls the Mistrale, pictured above. The company that made its name tuning the top-of-the-line Carrera GT just released details on its own Panamera upgrades, including a boost in output up to 750 horsepower, plus an air suspension and upgraded brakes. Both the 9ff and Gemballa Panameras offer their own suite of aerodynamic enhancements, interior upgrades and 22" wheels, and are fighting hard for their slice of what is sure to become a big a very big pie.

Video: Porsche Debuts the Panamera in Monterey

Porsche just debuted the Panamera Gran Turismo to the North American public for the first time as part of Monterey Peninsula's Classic Car Week running through Sunday that includes the Quail, a Motorsports Gathering, the Monterey Historics and the famed Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. The Panamera celebration also involves the 36th Rolex Monterey Historic Automobile Races where Porsche is the featured marque this year. This has special meaning to all those race drivers, teams, and fans of Porsche as one of the most famous vintage racing events in the world honors the most successful racing brand of all time. Porsche is also bringing to the event a number of significant and rare historic race cars, the Formula One and Two cars among them. On Wednesday a fleet of Panameras made its way into the Monterey peninsula and were prepped until sunrise. This video showcases the fleet being delivered and is followed by a first drive of the Panamera 4S on the Pacific Coast Highway.

Porsche Design Commemorates Launch of new Panamera with Special Collection

Porsche Design has long since evolved from an automotive design studio into a company offering a wide range of highly desirable products, sold worldwide through their own dedicated stores, along with special design work for other companies as well. But all the while they haven't forgotten their roots. As if to demonstrate just that, the studio has launched a new collection to compliment the new Panamera four-door grand touring car from their automotive sister-company. The collection includes all manner of clothing and accessories for men, women and children, as well as a line of Swiss-made timepieces and a set of fitted luggage. The latter is made of lightweight aluminum and polycarbonate, designed to fit in the trunk space of the new Panamera and available in the same exterior colors to provide a fresh take on the traditional soft-sided fitted luggage offered by other luxury automakers.

Porsche Factory Opens to the Public as Panamera Production Begins

Planning a trip to Germany in the near future? You may want to work a stop in Leipzig, Saxony, into your itinerary. That's where Porsche builds its Cayenne sport-utility vehicle and now the Panamera four-door GT as well. The long-anticipated Panamera just began rolling off the assembly line at the Leipzig assembly plant after an eight-month expansion added 22,000 square meters of extra capacity to the facility, and Porsche is keen to show it off to any members of the public interested in having a gander. Panamera Delayed, Porsche Unveils Updated 911 GT3 in Geneva

At this year's Geneva Motor Show, Porsche was originally scheduled to unveil its highly anticipated new Panamera four-door model, bridging the gap between its sportscar line-up and the Cayenne sport-utility vehicle. The German automaker, which recently acquired majority stake in the entire Volkswagen Group and all its many subsidiaries, opted instead to delay the Panamera's launch. Purists were undoubtedly pleased to see Porsche instead use the occasion to unveil its latest performance-focused driving tool, the revised 911 GT3. Slotting in below the Turbo and GT2 models in the 911 range, the new GT3 features a 3.8-liter flat-six that generates 435 horsepower without the need for turbochargers...good enough to propel the lightweight sportscar to sixty miles per hour in only 4.1 seconds. Center-locking wheels, a big rear wing and vents aplenty set the GT3 apart visually from the more ordinary versions of the 911, as you can see from the photographs in the gallery below.

Porsche Shows Off the Interior of its New 2010 Panamera, $89,800 in October

For those that clamor for a Porsche and need real room for four occupants but can't stand the thought of driving a Cayenne, the Panamera is coming. Porsche released the first official photos of the Panamera's exterior in late November which generated a lot of controversy about the rear styling. Now that we can see the interior, it appears that the rear roof profile shape may have been driven by the desire to accommodate four actual adults in the car. In keeping with its price tag, the interior is clearly very upscale. The switchgear on the center console looks like it could be on one of Nokia's luxury Vertu cell phones with a large touch screen display dominating the center of the dashboard.

Unlike the upholstered shelves in the back of a 911, rear passengers in the Panamera get virtually the same accommodations as the driver. The Panamera goes on sale in Europe in September with a US launch one month later. At launch all Panameras will be powered by either 400 hp normally aspirated V8 or a 500 hp tubo version with prices starting at $89,800. As usual Porsche's nearly infinite range of factory customization options that are limited only by the owners bank balance will be available. A version using Porsche's new hybrid system should arrive either later in 2010 or 2011.

Porsche Unveils Four-Door Panamera

Our sister site Autoblog has the just-released official images of Porsche's long-awaited and much-discussed Panamera, the marque's first four-door car (not counting the Cayenne SUV). Described as a four-door grand touring (GT) sports car rather than a coupe or sedan, Porsche's Panamera will likely share the Cayenne's range of engines. Production is slated to start next spring for a summer on-sale date, and the car is expected to be priced at around $175,000. The Panamera's styling, somewhere between a Carrera and scaled down Cayenne, is drawing decidedly mixed reviews. Last month we reported on Lamborghini's upcoming four-dour, the Estoque.
