Retirement CEO Buys Point Lookout

A tip from Luxist reader Dave led me to an interesting story regarding one of our previous estate-of-the-day properties, Point Lookout. Maine Coast Now reports that a Maryland businessman is buying Point Lookout from Bank of America and has plans to turn it into a training center for seniors and executives in the aging business. The 378-acre property has been listed through Landvest for $26.4 million. John Erickson, the potential buyer, is the CEO of Erickson Retirement Communities which owns and operates 20 continuing care retirement communities throughout the United States. By next fall, Erickson hopes to reopen the facility to use as a training facility. Point Lookout also may end up as an educational tour destination for older adults including those living in his retirement communities.

Point Lookout, Estate of the Day

It's not really an estate, it's actually a conference/retreat center but if you ever need a secret lair this is the place. Point Lookout is tucked into 387 acres of Maine woods on Ducktrap Mountain. The mountainside retreat was built by the credit card company MBNA. The sprawling compound has eight main buildings and 106 log cabins. The main conference center has views over the islands of Penobscot Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. It has state-of-the-art business systems and large conference rooms with glossy wooden tables and large fireplaces. The center also has all sorts of indoor and outdoor recreational areas including a bowling alley. It's priced at $26.4 million which seems a little ambitious but it could be converted to a resort or perhaps the ultimate place for a large family to hold reunions. More shots of this scenic retreat after the jump.
