The I.V. Plant Pot

Love to decorate your home or office a little on the bizarre side, and also have a hard time remembering when it's time to water your plants? This I.V. Plant Pot will take care of both those issues at once, and although it would be especially entertaining in a doctor's office you don't have to be medically inclined to appreciate both it's creativity and functionality (it really does water the plant). The set includes the stylish contemporary pot, a metal I.V. pole, and a refillable I.V. bag with a flow regulator that you adjust to fit your particular plant's needs. And the best part? The water goes into the pot, not the plant, so no worries about "finding a vein." £159.50

Bonsai Grapevine

I love this idea as a holiday gift for a wine lover. You can give someone their own Bonsai Cabernet Sauvignon vine. All vines are 10-12 years old and come from Sonoma wine country. The vines will bear fruit but not every year. The vines are sold through the Sonoma Country Winegrape Commission and profits from the sales go to vineyard employee educational programs. The vine comes in a ceramic container and sells for $49.95 plus $30 shipping.

Esque Terrariums

Even if you're not generally a fan of houseplants, terrariums are a great way to bring some life and green indoors in a way that keeps with structured and styled decor -- you get all the benefits of a houseplant but without the potentially unruly appearance and dead leaves falling all over.

These darling little Esque Terrariums from Velocity are perfect to sit anywhere. Hand-blown, each one is unique and signed by the artist. They're made from 100% recycled glass and heated in a furnace powered completely by wind energy -- truly "green" art in more ways than one! The plant isn't included, and they're available in two sizes (8" and 12"). $600-$800

Pennoyer Newman Parthenon Pot

If your garden needs a posh makeover the pricey pots of Pennoyer Newman are an excellent place to start. The small company specializes in garden pots, birdbaths, statues and pedestals cast in resin stone and based on antique designs. The designs are all weather resistant. One of my favorites is this Parthenon plaque container. The designs are copies of a frieze on the west side of the Parthenon and were made before the practice of taking impressions of the building was banned. This pot measures 20"H X 26"W X 26"D and sells for $750.

The Patrick Blanc Vertical Garden

In some places gardens and live plants are a luxury that just isn't realistic because they need soil, water, and most of all they need lots of room. In cities especially, where the green would be most prized amidst the concrete and tile, is where plants and flowers are the hardest to grow, right? Maybe not.

Using a system that allows plants to grow without any soil, The Vertical Garden by Patrick Blanc allows for natural living beauty in the otherwise most uninhabitable of places: the very walls of buildings, indoors or out. Watering and fertilization are automatic, so it's almost completely hassle free. Patrick Blanc has created customized living walls all over the world.

I wonder how my landlord would feel if I had something like this installed in my apartment?

Wrought Iron Terrarium

We've covered a few terrariums but none quite so grand as this one available at Gump's. It is modeled after the antique terrariums originally created by Nathaniel Ward in the 1800s. Ward's This wrought iron terrarium is made of glass and wrought iron with a pointed arch and trefoil details. It stands over five feet tall in total and will cradle your botanical treasures in fine style. It sells for $750.

Smith & Hawken Large Cloche with Saucer

It's still too early to head out and plant anything outdoors for spring, but with Smith & Hawken's Large Cloche with Saucer, you can get your seedling off to a good start in the comfort of your own home. The miniature terrarium is ideal for starting seedling when the weather outdoors is less-than-ideal. The mouth-blown glass bell keeps the soil warm and moist, as well as creating a visually pleasing display for the plants it contains. It measures 13 3/4" x 13 1/4". Price: $70.

Plantwall

If you don't have a "green thumb," maintaining any type of plant life in the house can be difficult, but instead of hiring a gardener for your indoor plants or switching to artificial flowers, you can install a plantwall. The Plantwall is a vertical pant installation that is "almost like being outside inside." It has an integrated irrigation system that distributes water and fertilizer throughout the wall, so there should be no reason for the wall to be anything other than lush and green. The price depends on the size and shape of the wall you want, as well as on the type of plants that you want to showcase.

Tabletop Terrarium

Potted plants are great in the kitchen windowsill, but are not exactly the pinnacle of chic for the rest of the house. To get your greenery in, in style, consider switching from pots to a Tabletop Terrarium from Smith & Hawken. The Terrarium is like a miniature greenhouse, trapping moist, humid air and creating an environment that beautiful tropical flowers thrive in. Hand-welded with glass panels, the terrarium looks quite Victorian and would make a great addition to an entryway or simply on an end-table, becoming as bold or understated as you like depending on what you choose to plant in it. Price: $99.

Aerogrow AeroGarden

The AeroGrow AeroGarden is a self-watering, self-feeding planter that lets you garden from the comfort of your kitchen without actually having to do anything. Tested by NASA, the planter uses "aeroponic technology," which means that the plants are suspended in a non-soil environment with 100% humidity, similar to an optimal rainforest climate. This enables plants to grow up to 5 times as fast as they normally would and, since no human intervention is required, the plants are guaranteed to thrive.

The built-in lights simulate a full spectrum of daylight lighting, so no natural sunlight is actually needed, and a computerized alarm system reminds you to check in on the plants. It includes a salad greens kit, but seed kits for herbs, tomatoes, flowers and chili peppers can also be purchased. Check out the FAQ for more info. Price: $199.
