Petra Nemcova Honors Vivienne Tam at NY Fashion Week Fall 2011

Czech Republic-born Supermodel Petra Nemcova, and one of the newest castmembers of Dancing with the Stars, honored Vivienne Tam at her Fall 2011 Collection show at NY Fashion Week this afternoon by wearing an elegant Chinese-themed dress designed by Tam. The dress is symbolic in red, which is the color of happiness and prosperity.

After the Vivienne Tam show, Nemcova met with Luxist to discuss what she thought of the collection.

"There were three things that I loved," the stunningly beautiful Nemcova told Luxist. "The clothes are very, very structured, which I love. You can see the quality of it. So the structure and quality, and I love the sparkles. They were just amazing. I also liked the fringe on some of the dresses. The structure, the quality, and the sparkles were really standing out. It was beautiful."

NY Fashion Week 2011: Luca Luca Fall Winter 2011 (with Video)

Raul Melgoza, the Creative Director at Luca Luca whose Fall/Winter 2011 Collection debuted at New York Fashion Week at Lincoln Center featured designs that were inspired by the adventures to be discovered in the deep woods-the beauty, the color, the fantasy. A bevy of supermodels sat in the front row of the show, from Carol Alt and Petra Nemcova to Irina Pantaeva (see photo gallery below). New York socialites were also in attendance including Tinsley Mortimer and Valesca Guerrand-Hermes.

Carol Alt talked to Luxist about her devotion to the fashion house. "When I was out of the fashion industry because I was doing movies for 10 years and I really wasn't around they immediately invited me back to the front row, "says Carol Alt. "They were really mensches. When someone is good to me, I am loyal for the rest of my life. You really have to slap me in the face for me not to come back here."

Melgoza's told Luxist his inspiration for the Fall 2011 collection is the story of a woman who is a running through the woods as she discovers the beauty, the color and the sanity that exists in the woods. The collection was presented at Fashion Week on Thursday, February 10 at Lincoln Center in New York. (See video for a backstage interview with Melgoza).

"As she starts her journey, she is in very tailored, equestrian-inspired silhouettes," he told Luxist. "She is wearing a lot of laces and transparent and sheer fabric as if she is shedding her very layered looks as she ends her journey."

Kentucky Derby Hat Auction

For the past three years, Grey Goose Vodka has teamed up with Eric Javits to create one-of-a-kind hats for the Kentucky Derby. Last year, Petra Nemcova was chosen to model a silvery white portrait hat that was auctioned on eBay, raising over $800 for the Barnstable-Brown Foundation. This year's creation was modeled by actress Zoe Saldana at the 133rd Kentucky Derby. The hat is a lightweight nylon, raffia and lurex in French blue with silver highlights. The unique chapeau was designed with a dramatic brim meant to symbolize the burst of energy of a grey goose taking flight. The hat, along with a custom designed hat box, is now up for auction at Clothes Off Our Back. Both the hat box and the chapeau are autographed by Javits and Saldana and together have a retail value of $1800. Proceeds from the auction will benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital to support pediatric cancer and disease as well as The Barnstable-Brown Foundation to support diabetic research. The auction ends May 15th and the last I checked, the bidding was up to $500.

Petra Nemcova's Infinite Heart Collection

The diamond necklace shown here isn't just a heart, it's a heart with a heart. The necklace is part of Petra's Infinite Heart Collection from Fortunoff. Model and tsunami-survivor Petra Nemcova worked with the jewelry design team to create the collection. The Infinite Heart charm was inspired by the logo for Petra's Happy Hearts Fund and is available in a bunch of styles ranging from a sterling silver piece that sells for $95 to the diamond and white gold necklace above which sells for $675. A portion of proceeds from each piece will benefit the charity, which provides aid to children who have suffered loss or hardship as a result of natural, economic or health related disasters. The collection will be available at Fortunoff starting February. Petra will also make an in-store appearance on February from 12-2 PM at Fortunoff's Fifth Avenue store.

Kentucky Derby Hat on eBay

Would you want a Kentucky Derby hat after the Derby? You might if it sat on the head of model Petra Nemcova. This year she was the wearer of a new hat created by Eric Javits for Grey Goose vodka (last year, Jamie-Lynn Sigler was the celeb hat model). The one-of-a-kind hat is created each year and then sold on eBay to benefit the Barnstable-Brown Foundation to support diabetic research. The value of the hat is $1,000. The hat has spiraled silver gray braid which represents the lanes in which the horses's race and the dotted veil pouf symbolizes the moment when the horses leave the gate. Last time I checked on eBay, bids were up over $330. The auction ends on May 18.
