Bedford Springs Resort

Filed under: Luxury Travel & Hotels, Spas

The Bedford Springs Resort in Bedford, Pennsylvania represents a tradition in American vacationing. The first Bedford Springs hotel opened in 1804 and the resort was also home to one of the first golf courses in America. The resort was designated a historic landmark in 1984. The resort was closed for a time but is now hoping to return to its former glory. You can see postcards of the old resort here.

A massive restoration process costing over $100 million is currently in progress and the hotel is set to open in May. The challenge for the resort's restorers is to capture the hotel's bygone grandeur and still include the modern amenities like massive flatscreen TVs, that today's hotel guests require. The 216-room hotel will have a refurbished golf course, restaurants and a spa that takes advantage of the area's natural mineral springs. The hotel will be accepting reservations as of March 1 and rates will start around $250.
