Paul Smith Swirl Rug

Need a little retro pop for your floor? Are those majestic hardwoods seeming a little bare? Why not get a rug? Outlandish British designer Paul Smith has lent his trademark bright stripes to The Rug Company to make high quality floor coverings. This swirling rug is of Tibetan wool and comes in several sizes. Take some time to browse through their other rugs as well. There are several that I am wanting for my floors.

Paul Smith World Cup Gear

We already saw designer soccer balls from Takashi Murakami and a whistle chair/sculpture for armchair referees, but Paul Smith has a whole line of products that he developed in celebration of the World Cup. First up is his take on a football, made of fake crocodile skin colored with bright hues. Unfortunately, unlike the Murakami balls, it is not intended to be used as more than a novelty and should not even be taken outdoors. This isn't a problem if you want to toss the ball around while watching the game on TV, though. The ball is £169.

Paul Smith iPod mini case

In honor of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's exhibit, Anglo-mania, a retrospective of British fashion, I thought I'd join in the Anglophilia with something hip and Brit: Paul Smith's leather iPod Mini carrying case.

If you're not familiar with Paul Smith, let me gush about him for a few minutes. He's best known for his tailored suits, but in the past few years, he extended his collection to include women's ready to wear, accessories and perfumes. What Paul Smith does best is basically what the British do best -- mixing subsersiveness with tradition. Smith's suits, are on the outside, exactly what you would expect a stuffy British business man to wear. On the inside, though, he includes details like lavender satin or this funky ticking stripe liner.

It's the same striped patten he uses in this iPod mini case. The sleek elastic sides enable this carrier to accomodate both the 4 and the 6 GB Mini.

Sort of mod, sort of cheeky, this pod holster gives me the feeling that I should be spending a good part of my life listening to The Kinks' song "Waterloo Station" on iPod repeat. Price: $130.

Paul Smith Mini Car Messenger Bag, Handbag of the Day

As though to prove that fun bags aren't just for women, Paul Smith has released this bright, funky men's Mini Car Messenger Bag. The bag is made of canvas with leather trim and features a photo screen print of a multi-striped Mini Cooper in front of a lively casino. Bright colors aren't limited to the exterior of the bag, either. The lining of the messenger is a rich purple cotton canvas. It has one slot and one zip pocket to organize all your things the next time you are making a trip out to Las Vegas or down to Atlantic City for the day. It measures a roomy 19 x 12 x 4.75-inches. Price: $400.

Paul Smith Triumph Bag

I wrote before about designer Paul Smith's partnership with Triumph to create motorcycles. Smith was also inspired to make several bags that celebrate vintage Triumph style. There is a messenger bag made to look like a distressed motorcycle jacket and this canvas weekend bag that features a Triumph on one side and a close-up of the engine on the other. The bag has leather trim and a vibrant purple lining. It's on sale at eLuxury for $329, down from $495.
