Patrick Nagel Jewelry To Take Us Back To The 1980s

Patrick Nagel in the news? Have I fallen into a hot tub time machine? The artist who died in 1984 is most associated with brightly colored and angular portraits including the one that was on the cover of Duran Duran's Rio album. The look he created was in many ways the definitive style of the 1980s. Now, just like so many other 1980s trends, Nagel is back. The Patrick Nagel Collection of Art and Jennifer Dumas, Nagel's widow have partnered with Character Vision and United Brands Worldwide to create the Patrick Nagel jewelry, luxury and fashion accessories brand. The products will launch in limited distribution in the fall of 2011. It will be interesting to see what the public response is to this, has the Nagel moment past or is the 1980s icon primed for a new generation of admirers?

Playboy Puts Some Beauties Up For Auction

Playboy is auctioning off some of their historic archive of art commissioned for the magazine on October 15. The auction, called "Playboy: The Art of Beauty" will take place at Heritage Auction Galleries in Dallas, and online. There will be 17 pieces up for sale including drawings and photographs which focus on a celebration of beautiful women. The pieces by 11 artists include two by Alberto Vargas, one fro.er. The pieces date from 1956 to 1985 and are priced more modestly than some other art you might find at fall sales, the highest being an estimate of up to $60,000 for a Vargas blonde. UPDATE: The auction brought in $230,000.
