Lady Dior Patent Cannage Bag, Handbag of the Day

This Lady Dior Patent Cannage Bag is so glossy and the color looks so deep I really wish I could reach out and touch it. It also strikes me as a little dated looking and I'm not sure why, but maybe with the right outfit it could be classy and stylish. It's made of quilted patent calfskin leather with cannage pattern embroidery and features large rounded patent handles attached with silver metal rings, dangling silver "dior" letter charms, and a detachable shoulder strap. It also has a flat base with metal feet and a zip-top closure. $1,800

Goldenbleu Rebecca Patent Bag, Handbag of the Day

This bag is great for those who want shine without going the route of crystal designs or extreme structure from a lot of metal hardware. Made of crinkled patent leather (which lends it a definite slouchy softness) the Rebecca Patent Bag by Goldenbleu can dress up or dress down, plus it comes in a neutral shade of charcoal grey that will go with almost anything. It has a flat patent base with metal feet, a rolled patent handle with an 8" drop, contoured seams, tonal topstitching, and zip top closure. 13 3/4" x 6 1/2" x 7 1/2", $710.

Etro Patent Top Handle Bag, Handbag of the Day

Etro's Spring/Summer 2007 leather collection is big on the buckles and this bag is no exception. Against the black patent leather, these over-sized buckles will be obvious from across the room. Think of them as conversation pieces for your body. The bag is large at nearly 11 inches square, has double handles and a zip top. $1300.

Fendi Patent Magic Bag, Handbag of the Day

To me, what makes this bag magic is the beautiful color. They call it tobacco, but I think it looks more like warm chocolate caramel. I like the fact that the tarnished silver hardware and studded accents are kept to a minimum and don't detract the focus from where it belongs -- on the gorgeous patent leather. With a small logo turn-lock closure, the bag looks trendy and classic at the same time. The interior is lined with canvas and features a zip pocket. $1,300.

Jane August Shoulder Bag, Handbag of the Day

Jane August's white patent shoulder bag is a summer bag for your more glamorous days when you aren't at the beach but are instead bustling down a city street looking sleek and pulled together. A thick slice of white patent leather, it has a large circle for your shoulder but still has the a slim envelope look that makes it almost look more like a clutch. The bag measures 21½" x 14" and sells for $850 at Vivre.

Marc Jacobs Slouchy Patent Surely Shopper, Handbag of the Day

This Marc by Marc Jacobs handbag is huge and were it not for the overly-large bag trend that started on the runways earlier this year, it might be too large to actually qualify as a handbag. The Slouchy Patent Surely Shopper measures 17" x 5" x 20", which doesn't sound that big until you realized that you could easily fit five laptops into the bag. We don't recommend that, of course, because the patent leather shopped is lined with fabric, and is not nearly padded enough to protect computers, though the comparison can give a good idea of the size. The bag is accented with 3/4" banding at the top and silver hardware, including reinforced double shoulder straps and a decorative buckle on the front. Price: $478.

Louis Vuitton Patent Leather Monogram Satchel, Handbag of the Day

The posters at the Purse Blog forum are a dedicated bunch, and it is thanks to them that we have the pricing for Louis Vuitton's beautiful new Patent Leather Monogram Satchel. The triangular bag has an all-over embossed print on white leather and cinches at the top with a leather cord that doubles as a handle. Despite the shiny material, the bag definitely has a casual edge to it and was carried both in-hand and tucked under an arm on the runway, though we wouldn't advise the latter if you're planning on carrying anything heavy in the bag. Price (approx): $1,680.

Fendi Two-Tone Patent Shoulder Bag, Handbag of the Day

There is something very vintage about this bag, despite the rather up-to-the-moment giant buckle that adorns the front, due to the fact that it is made with shiny, two-tone patent leather. The buckle of Fendi's Two-Tone Patent Shoulder Bag is actually on the flap closure of the bag, but does not actually lock the bag; it has a concealed magnet for that. The lining under the flap is soft suede, but the bag's interior is done in black canvas. Overall, the bag has a sleek, stylish look to it and makes a nice contrast to some of the heavier and metallic fall bags that we've been seeing so much of lately. Price: $1,130.

Marc Jacobs Quilted Patent Leather Hobo, Handbag of the Day

This Quilted Patent Leather Hobo by Marc Jacobs is elegant and ladylike, but the deep blue color gives it a touch of boldness. The quilted pattern on the smooth patent-leather bag makes it unmistakable, and the gold hardware creates the perfect color pairing. Roomier than it looks at first glance, the bag measures 8.5 x 14.5 x 4-inches, which means that it's a bag suitable for evening use that you can actually fit things into! Price: $895.
