Palazzo Versace Plans Refrigerated Beach
Filed under: Luxury Travel & Hotels

My colleague Jared Paul Stern touched on the lavish plans for the Palazzo Versace hotel in Dubai back in May but a new feature has been announced that bears noting. The luxurious resort will have the world's first refrigerated beach, designed to protect the feet of guests when it gets too hot. In order to keep the sand cool the beach will be built on a network of pipes which will contain a heat-absorbing coolant. The system will be controlled by thermostats linked to computers to keep the beach at the optimum temperature for enjoyment at all times. As you might assume, environmentalists are up in arms about this luxurious enhancement in an area already known for having a huge carbon footprint due to the need to keep things cool. After all, the scorching hot city already has an indoor ski slope.
