Swarovksi Holiday Ornament 2008

No snowflakes are alike and so Swarovski offers a different snowflake for each year to celebrate the holiday season. The Holiday Ornament, Annual Edition 2008 has chosen a faceted-crystal snowflake with a blue satin ribbon and a small silver-tone tag with year of issue 2008. It retails for $75 and is available at Swarovski boutiques nationwide. Swarovski is donating $250,000 from the sales of its Annual Edition holiday ornament to Clothes Off Our Backs to benefit children's charities worldwide.

The Humane Society, Charity of the Day

Most people have heard of The Humane Society of the United States and know that it helps to protect dogs and cats but the Humane Society is also involved with wildlife and habitat protection and much, much more. They also have a Veterinarians Without Borders program that helps to provide animal care in other nations. The Humane Society also advocates for animals by endorsing sensible public policies, investigating cruelty and working to enforce existing laws. They also work with corporations on behalf of animal-friendly policies and are lead disaster relief agency for animals. The Humane Society makes a great donation gift for any animal lover. For the holiday season they have created a 2007 collectible ornament which can be given as a gift for $50. Donate $90 and they will send one to your recipient and one to you as well. All gift recipients of $25 also receive a subscription to The Humane Society's Magazine, All Animals, and a holiday greeting card.

Thames Glass Gift Box Ornament

Matthew Buechner of Thames Glass in Newport, Rhode Island has been a glassblower for over 20 years. At Thames Glass he designs all the prototypes and trains a team glassmakers in the art of handcrafted glass. This gift box ornament is just one of the beautiful and delicate ornaments that comes out of the Thames Glass studio. This ruby ornament with gold leaf sells for $44.

2007 Swarovski Christmas Ornament

Halloween is still a few days away but the Christmas ornaments are already out. This one is the Swarovski's 2007 Annual Edition ornament. The snowflake-like crystal piece on a blue satin ribbon has detailed facets that duplicate the Swarovski star that will sit on top of the Rockefeller Center holiday tree. Swarovski will donate $250,000 from sales of this ornament to the Starlight Stabright Children's Foundation, a national, non-profit, charitable organization that is dedicated to making a world of difference for seriously ill children and their families. The ornament sells for $70.

Waterford Times Square Collection

New Year's Eve 2007 marks the 100th Anniversary of the Times Square New Year's Eve Ball drop and Waterford Crystal , which creates the ball each year has created the Waterford Crystal Times Square Ball 100th Anniversary Collection. The collection includes a votive, disk ornament, footed hurricane, toasting flutes, martini glasses, a crystal globe that sells for $15,000, and the ball ornament shown above. The ball ornament has an LED light in the cap that operates on a sensor. It sells for $98.

There is no limit to the number of ornaments you can add to your home or to your Christmas tree over the holidays. Unlike just about every other type of decoration, ornaments can be as dissimilar as snowflakes and a display can still look stunning when taken as a whole. It does help to start our your collection with some beautiful ornaments and these are some of the best that we have seen this season.

Gucci's Holiday Catalog has a lot of gifts that anyone would feel privileged to find in their stocking, including two limited edition holiday ornaments. Wish Ornament

The wish ornament from Red Envelope is a cute way to create a new tradition. The ornament, which is available in polished brass or silverplate engraved with the word "wishes." The interior is red enamel and says "do come true." The ornament has a magnetic closure and comes with strips of paper to write your wishes on. It could also be used to hold a small sparkly bauble inside. The wish ornament sells for $30.

Vivian Alexander 2006 Christmas Ornament

Our continuing search for the perfect holiday decoration leads me to the ornate works of Vivian Alexander. The Louisiana-based company creates intricate handcrafted egg ornaments. Their Christmas 2006 ornament is made of red and green enamel with silver ornamentation over a fine silver egg base. There are just 200 of these numbered pieces available and they are each handmarked 2006. According to this article in the Daily Advertiser, three artisans create 12 ornaments per day while working on other eggs and designs and nearly six hours of work go into each ornament. The heirloom ornament sells for $150.

Juliska 2006 Glass Ornaments

The attractive ornaments you see here are the 2006 offerings from Juliska, a company that makes handblown glassware in Czechoslovakia. The artisans create the glass using traditional techniques. These ornaments are are made of lead-free glass which has a composition that allows it to be blown very thin. They look a bit like sea urchins but I like the non-traditional designs. The silver-lined ornament sells for $75 and the clear glass ornament is $55.
