Olivia Harris Plaque Zip Tote, Handbag of the Day

I've been waiting for this rusty orange color to become popular again. It is one of my favorite hues, but it seems to have had a difficult time overcoming the gaudy reputation it earned in the 1970's. Less shocking than red and brighter than brown, the color just glows with warmth and understated style. On this tote, that color is the focus, with very little hardware to distract from the gorgeous distressed leather. Inside, the bag is lined in similarly-hued canvas and is divided into two compartments with a center zip pocket. Measuring 14"W x 12"H x 7"D, it has an 8" strap drop and sells for $545.

Sleek and modern in dramatic orange and cream, the Clint Day Bag sports an off-center strip of gleaming metallic leather and a funky buckle closure. It is very contemporary, but somehow has a vintage look - maybe it's the orange calfskin leather giving it that seventies vibe? A simple rolled leather handle and cream colored suede lining finish things off nicely. The bag measure 12"W x 8:H x ½"D. $945.

Who doesn't love orange? From Smythson's Autumn/Winter 2007 collection, there is nothing Halloweenish about this rich clementine hue. Sturdy and roomy, the the crocodile-finished calfskin shoulder bag offers simple style in a not-so-classic color. Measuring 12" x 8" x 5.25", the structured bag has a boxy shape with minimal gold tone and enamel accents. With a large exterior flap pocket and rolled leather handles, the bag opens with a double zip top and features one interior zippered pocket. $1205.

Hermes Garden Party Tote, Handbag of the Day

This tote caught my eye primarily for the luscious orange color. But color alone can't justify the $1395 price tag, so what else does this bag offer besides a high-end label? The answer is - not much. Made from cotton linen and trimmed in orange leather, it's a simple large tote like any other. I do like the way the top snaps in to adjust the width, but other than that and the detachable 45" shoulder strap, it is rather unremarkable. Pretty color, though!
